Easy Video Wall Installation is Here
Traditional video wall installations are difficult and complex. Hear from ViewSonic on why power considerations, designing for your physical space, and the option of an All-in-One solution should be kept in mind.
What comes to mind when you think of a video wall installation? Expensive purchase prices, several days to install with specialized technicians, and high maintenance costs have been among some of the barriers to entry.
Once viewed as prohibitively expensive and complex, dvLED is now more accessible than ever—thanks in part to ViewSonic’s All-in-One dvLED solutions. ViewSonic is delivering scalable, easy to install, user-friendly dvLED systems designed to meet the needs of a broader market.
“dvLED technology is improving as prices come down, which opens up new opportunities for corporate enterprise and higher education applications,” said Shane Roma, technical product manager at ViewSonic.
Why dvLED?
There are solid reasons that dvLED have become the technology of choice for video wall installations. From pre-configured, configurable, and mobile video wall solutions, ViewSonic’s All-in-One dvLED solutions are designed for easy installation and service, seamless integration, and long-term reliability.
Direct View LED video walls are built from modular LED panels where each LED acts as its own light source and pixel. This makes dvLED displays significantly thinner, brighter, more vibrant, and—most importantly—completely seamless.
Advances in GOB (Glue-on-Board), and COB (Chip-on-Board) have further improved durability, uniformity, and ease of maintenance. As a result, dvLED is becoming more popular across nearly every industry.
ViewSonic’s mobile solutions are fully integrated, pre-assembled, and foldable video wall on wheels. It's purpose-built for mobility in high-usage environments where flexibility is key. Just roll it in, unfold it, and plug it in.
The preconfigured solutions make it easy to specify standard 16:9 video walls in various sizes and resolutions. Everything you need is included under a single part number, making it as easy as ordering a standard commercial display.
ViewSonic’s customizable dvLED displays are perfect for unique spaces and requirements with the same simplicity as its All-in-One solutions.
These solutions are flexible in size, resolution, and aspect ratio, allowing you to create a one-of-a-kind visual experience.
A Focus on Installation
While All-in-One dvLED products have streamlined the installation process considerably—a truly simple, stress-free display installation begins during the design phase.
“Location may seem like a no-brainer when it comes to planning, but display placement is about more than just the audience’s view,” said Roma. Adequate space needs to be provided for power and cabling, and consideration must be given to potential obstructions like fire alarms or thermostats, which may need to be moved. Will your team need special equipment like a lift to access the area safely? Thought must also be spared for future maintenance needs and the safety of the installation crew—specifically, how easily can the area be accessed?
The material your wall is made from will dictate how it needs to be prepped to hold your display. Drywall often needs shimming to be perfectly flat and can settle over time without proper backing, which can cause unsightly gaps. For tougher surfaces like brick or concrete, you’ll need to plan exactly how and where the mounting structures and cables will be placed.
And though today’s dvLED displays have a slimmer profile and weigh less than LCD video walls, they are still heavy and need proper support. Don’t underestimate the weight. Adding extra backing, like a sheet of plywood, is a simple way to give your wall more strength to hold the display securely for years to come.
Make sure you get these details locked in during the design phase. It’s much easier to make a change on paper than it is on a half-finished wall.
Powering Your Project
Modern dvLEDs are more efficient than ever, but, before you can wow with stunning visuals, you need to ensure the correct infrastructure is in place to power your display. Working with an electrician at the ground level of your project will set you up for safety, success, and show-stopping visuals down the road.
First, you’ll need to check whether your chosen display needs 120V or 240V power and 20A or 30A circuits and, if so, how many circuits; second, make sure the building’s electrical panel can handle the extra load without any issues; and finally, pinpoint the exact location for the outlets, which you’ll likely want recessed so your display sits perfectly flat against the wall.
Doing a site walk and consultation with an electrician, securing permits, and preparing the site early will help you avoid unexpected costs and delays. Strategic power planning doesn’t just enable a smooth installation, but it also ensures optimal performance and longevity for your display.
