EduComm Expo(ECE) announced today that Kurt Haverstock, Manager of Distributed Education Technology and Facilities at the Information Networking Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, will present a seminar at 3 p.m. on the second day of the Nov. 15-16, 2016 event at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
The presentation by Haverstock, entitled “Evolving Nature of Distributed Education Classroom Design and Delivery Technologies,” will explore how the integration of distributed education technologies into traditional classroom settings has provided educators with the opportunity to extend their reach to geographically distributed partner institutions while maintaining a familiar and efficient pedagogy. The session will provide an overview of Carnegie Mellon University’s approach to design, operation and their role in the continuing evolution of synchronous, multi-site classroom instruction.
Attendees will also learn how the:
·Functional requirements drive the design of learning spaces and in particular, how distributed education classrooms differ significantly from standard technology enhanced learning venues.
·Impact that differing approaches to distributed education classroom design and technology integration have on the learning process and interaction.
·Value, utility and challenges inherent in hybridized approaches to synchronous classroom delivery.
“The goal of our program is to provide supporting technology to allow equivalent interactive opportunity for on- and off-site students as well as maintaining an environment where the technology is largely transparent to the instructor, allowing them to focus on content,” said Haverstock. “As our instructional space becomes more global in nature and our student base more geographically diverse, the goal will continue to be that of maintaining an effective and meaningful connection across distances through the effective use of technology.”
