POPAI University on the Road

POPAIUniversity is hosting a one-day workshop designed to help with capturing the consumer's attention and influence purchasing decisions. This program will help advance education and build a network of colleagues to call upon as a resource. The event will be held at the Hotel Orrington in Evanston, IL on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. CST as Joseph King, Ph.D. leads out this interactive workshop.

Joseph S. King, Ph.D. has been a professor in the Department of Psychology at RadfordUniversity for the past 26 years. Prior to that, he taught at two different community colleges, ConcordUniversity and Va. Tech. His principle research interests have been in Physiological Psychology and Human Psychophysiology with an interest in understanding attention and the brain's processing of sensory input. His laboratory research has used both humans and animals as subjects. His research has included both undergraduate and graduate students as collaborators and includes many graduate student theses. His collaborations with students and other colleagues have resulted in more than 40 publications in professional journals, books and presentations at professional meetings. His current research involves the relationship between behavioral and cardiovascular changes during sustained attention.

  • For the past 5 years Dr. King has served RadfordUniversity as Director of its HonorsAcademy. The Academy currently has about 450 members and graduates 40-50 Highlander Scholar graduates per year.

This workshop will have three purposes: Clarify the role of attention as it may influence the consumer attention; discuss actual examples of attention getting marketing at-retail media and how they actually work; participants will select their own topic and design at retail media that captures the attention of consumers and hold promise to influence their decisions to purchase product.

This workshop aims to heighten awareness of how shoppers engage in the landscape of marketing at-retail. Cost for members is $350, and for non-members if $700. Attendees are responsible for their own hotel reservations.
