Today, Robert Detwiler, senior director of product management at Planar, discusses MicroLED, LED, LCD, and transparent LED.
SCN: What is your company’s story at InfoComm this year?
Robert Detwiler: We have a handful of display products making their public debut at the show. This includes a new proprietary MicroLED technology with the potential to deliver game-changing results in the areas of efficiency and longevity.
SCN: Why is InfoComm such an important show for you and your company?
RD: Each year at InfoComm, we look forward to showcasing our latest product innovations, demonstrating to our customers and industry partners how we continue to stay on the cutting edge of technology to better address their evolving needs. At the same time, it’s a welcomed opportunity to check in with our customers and industry partners to hear about the impactful moments they’re looking to create and explore how we can help make that possible.

We pride ourselves on not only listening to, but more importantly, implementing direct customer feedback into our product introductions. We put a great deal of emphasis on being quality oriented and delivering products that will be beneficial for users. We always consider InfoComm an ideal time to have these types of discussions and gather as much input as we can.
SCN: What do you expect the buzz to be on the InfoComm 2026 show floor?
RD: As far as display technology is concerned, we expect to see significant advancements in visual performance, durability, and efficiency. This spans improved viewing angles, enhanced brightness and color performance, protective treatments like encapsulation and designs for effective heat dissipation.
We see steady demand for ultra-wide format displays, especially in the case of supporting collaboration and enhanced productivity. Of course, with a growing emphasis on blending displays into architecture, we also find more manufacturers releasing creative platforms that support custom and visually distinctive installations. This includes curved displays, wrapped columns, halos, 90-degree right angle, and cube designs that are being used to create truly one-of-a-kind deployments.
Today, Planar remains dedicated to strengthening our LED and LCD product offerings for customers, so it’s possible attendees will experience the latest and greatest of both product categories.
SCN: Is transparent LED having its moment?
RD: Definitely. This year at ISE, we saw multiple transparent LED presentations from companies, demonstrating the dvLED technology’s ability to deliver outstanding vibrancy and more consistent transparent visuals. We’ll most likely see more of this at InfoComm and perhaps even new intended use models.
