SUBWAY restaurants, a global chain in the QSR space, has announced a long-term partnership with world champion swimmer Michael Phelps. Mr. Phelps will be representing the brand across all marketing channels and joins an impressive list of athlete partners that have included Michael Strahan, Ryan Howard, Kimmie Meissner, Tony Parker, Laila Ali and Reggie Bush.

"SUBWAY takes pride in being a healthy and active brand - one that can be a regular part of these world class athletes' routines," states Tony Pace, chief marketing officer of the SUBWAY Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust (SFAFT), which signed the contract with Phelps. "We knew Michael Phelps was a big fan of our sandwiches and we wanted to build on that with him to illustrate that SUBWAY is a brand that can play a role in helping everyone - from elite athletes to weekend joggers - perform at their peak levels and make healthier, smarter choices about food, whatever the activity."

Michael Phelps made history when he became the only athlete to ever win eight gold medals at a single Games this summer in Beijing. He also holds the record for the most gold medals won by any athlete with a record 14. Mr. Phelps and SUBWAY are a natural fit because they are both advocates of active and healthy lifestyles. Through his Michael Phelps Foundation, Mr. Phelps promotes a healthy, active lifestyle and advocates swimming for children. During his travel for training, meets and races, he takes advantage of the 30,000 SUBWAY locations.

"SUBWAY restaurants have always given me the options that I am looking for - whether that's healthy sandwiches before a big meet or the tasty meatball sub that I treat myself with," stated Michael Phelps. "I was ready to take my SUBWAY fan-dom to the next level - I really think of SUBWAY as a champion food option."

"Together SUBWAY and Michael Phelps form the perfect partnership to raise awareness around leading an active, healthy lifestyle into the next Games," comments Peter Carlisle, Managing Director, Olympics & Action Sports for Octagon and Michael Phelps's long-time agent. "We are excited to be working together over the long-term."

SUBWAY restaurants and Michael Phelps will be unveiling his first commercial appearance for the brand in early 2009.

And this was in full evidence in early October, as Helius hosted its annual Helius Partner Summit 2007, October 3-4, in Park City, UT.
