New Green AV Course at InfoComm Explores Sustainability

  • Green AV has become an important issue in recent years, and this year InfoComm has added a new course to address this area. The "Green Building Basics and LEED" course is presented by the U.S. Green Building Council, and takes place today from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at room W308. The course will delve into the idea of Green AV and is designed as an introduction to USGBC, green building principles and the fundamentals of the LEED Rating System.

"If you look around the show floor this year, there's a lot of green in booths," says Randal A. Lemke, PhD, Executive Director, InfoComm International. "There are a lot of new products that will be announced for Green AV sustainability. As we prepared for the show, we put together seven courses that are inline with Green AV. We're presenting some of the classes, like our regular seminar, and we also have a class from the USGBC local chapter to talk about LEED. We're working with LEED to see how our members can participate more. EPA is looking for our manufacturers and integrators to make products that are Energy Star rated, and we're trying to work with the EPA to make a distinction between commercial and residential products. We've also decided to establish an Energy Management Standard for our next ANSI standard."
In addition to the course, there is also a free Green AV Mixer set to take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Platinum Lounge (W206B). The Green AV Mixer is sponsored by Christie Digital.
