Vertec Flies At Toronto's Sony Centre For The Performing Arts

NORTHRIDGE, CA--PA Plus recently upgraded the sound reinforcement system at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada.

Originally designed to stage opera and ballet performances, the Sony Centre turned to PA Plus to bring added flexibility to its sound reinforcement system. Management desired to support rock, pop and jazz artists as well as the classical productions that continue to play at the Centre. "The venue wanted to implement a system with more impact that would meet the demands of higher- energy performances," said Mark Radu, Systems Engineer, PA Plus. "We proposed a permanent line array system, and out of the various products available, the venue chose a JBL Vertec rig."

PA Plus designed and installed a Vertec line array system featuring 12 VT4888DP-CN powered midsize line arrays on each side of the stage, accompanied by four VT4882DP-CN powered midsize arrayable subwoofers per side, for a total of 32 Vertec enclosures. The Vertec DP Series includes JBL DrivePack technology, featuring Crown's BCA (balanced current amplification) and Class I circuitry. The system sets a new standard for performance in digital power amplification, with lower noise and distortion specifications than other high-power switching amplifier on the market. The entire system is remotely controlled and monitored via Harman's HiQnet System Architect software.
