Meyer Sound's Helen Meyer Named Woman of Distinction

BERKLEY, CA--Helen Meyer, co-founder and executive vice president of Berkeley-based Meyer Sound Laboratories, has been honored by California's East Bay Business Times as one of this year's Women of Distinction. The annual award celebrates 25 women who have broken barriers, served as mentors to other women, and left a mark on East Bay business.

"I'm honored to be included among such an interesting and diverse group of women who have led and supported the community in the East Bay," says Meyer. "I thank the East Bay Business Times and all the other sponsors for their support of our accomplishments in business and in life."
Co-founded by Helen Meyer and her husband John Meyer in 1979, Meyer Sound manufactures award-winning professional audio products used worldwide. All of Meyer Sound's products are manufactured at its headquarters in Berkeley, a strategic decision that Meyer feels strongly about.

"While some might think it's more cost effective to manufacture overseas, in the end it's actually more efficient for us to oversee production here because quality control and consistency from product to product is part of what people buy when they buy a Meyer Sound product," says Meyer. "Also, Berkeley is our home and we take pride in helping the local economy by keeping jobs here, particularly the manufacturing jobs."

In recent years, Helen Meyer has been heavily involved in the local community, including supporting UC Berkeley's Memorial Stadium in its audio system upgrade, and collaborating with the Gyuto Monks to deliver Dalai Lama's teachings clearly to an audience of 10,000 people at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. She also maintains a commitment to the performing arts by serving on the boards of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Berkeley's Aurora Theatre advisory counsel and Brooklyn's Mark Morris Dance Group.
