Circuit City Names New Chief Marketing Officer

Circuit City Stores, Inc. announced September 11th that Peter C. Weedfald has been named senior vice president, chief marketing officer. Weedfald joined the company in 2006 as senior vice president, general merchandise manager for entertainment/ content. Before joining the company, he served as senior vice president, sales and marketing, U.S. consumer electronics and North American corporate marketing for Samsung Electronics America, a marketer of consumer electronics, information systems and home appliance products. Prior to joining Samsung in 2001, he served as chief operating officer of Bigfoot Interactive, a provider of email communications solutions and marketing automation technologies. Previously, Weedfald held several senior positions including executive vice president of corporate communications and emerging business, executive vice president of marketing and strategic business, and senior vice president of global marketing at ViewSonic Corporation, a worldwide provider of advanced display technology. Prior to joining ViewSonic in 1998, he served in various senior publisher positions at Ziff-Davis Publishing, a leading integrated media company serving the technology and videogame markets, for nine years.

"With his knowledge of the consumer electronics industry and his strong record of results in building the Samsung brand, Peter brings a unique set of skills to take Circuit City's brand to a new level," said Philip J. Circuit City Cyber Games At-Retail

The Circuit City World Cyber Games Mobile Tour will give hometown gamers a final chance to compete for 56 "wildcard" spots to vie for prizes and the chance to qualify for e- Sports' largest and most prestigious video game tournament. Thomson's PRN, Circuit City Extend Relationship

Thomson's Premier Retail Networks, Inc. (PRN), a provider of digital media solutions at retail, and Circuit City Stores, Inc., a specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and related services, have announced an agreement to enter into an extended multi-year relationship. PRN and Circuit City have been in business together since 1994. As part of this new agreement, PRN will provide Circuit City with upgraded servers that are capable of running PRN's new IPTV platform, which was recently tested in more than 25 Circuit City stores. PRN will also continue to supply Circuit City with in-store programming, technology and network operations for the retailer's media network, as well as programming that enhances the merchandising of HDTVs and Home Entertainment products.
