NEW YORK, NY--Rockefeller Plaza's skating rink was taken over by NBC recently, for its Fall Lineup Preview reception. NBC holds this reception for advertisers after they view the lineup at nearby Radio City Music Hall, giving them a chance to relax and mingle. Australia's David Grant Special Events (DGSE) was tasked with putting together the reception's AV requirements, an old client of NBC's.

CPR placed Dynascans in Rockefeller Plaza's ice rink for NBC's Fall Preview. The devices spin so fast a regular camera can't capture the images.
This year, NBC wanted something different for its reception, so DGSE suggested using Dynascans, vertical orbs that show video content 360 degrees by spinning. When it comes to Dynascans, the best outlet for these devices is CPR Multimedia Solutions, out of Gaithersburg, MD. Jeff Studley, president of CPR, said, "NBC wanted to really wow the crowd, and the Dynascans are quite unique. But it was important that it work with NBC's content." The show clips and ads that ran through the Dynascans was created in New Zealand by DSGE.

The Dynascans can run material in AVI and MPEG formats, as well as several other inputs. It runs much like a computer, with mouse and keyboard hookups available. The core structure consists of a drum incorporating several RGB LED modules. As the drum spins at 340 rpms, the system controls the lighting of each pixel at a precise location within 1/100th degree accuracy. The result is a 960 x 720 resolution and vivid image even in daytime. For more information visit www.cprmms.com and www.dynascanusa.com.
