AV Week Comes to Biamp Systems

BEAVERTON, OR--Biamp Systems is hosting a class of engineering students from the University of Portland on Oct. 23 during AV Week. AV Week, which takes place Oct. 18-24 this year, is a worldwide celebration that promotes the audiovisual (AV) industry and the important role that AV plays in businesses, communities and daily life.

  • “We are very passionate about promoting the innovations in the AV industry among students,” said Matt Kotvis, Lead DSP Engineer, Biamp Systems. “The worlds of AV and information technology are merging, so we think it’s important to expose students to this convergence and spark their creative design skills.”

By hosting the engineering students this year, Biamp Systems also hopes to inspire them to consider a career in the AV industry. The students will attend presentations on real-world engineering applications by Biamp’s engineering staff, have the opportunity to network with engineering professionals and tour Biamp’s manufacturing facility.

“This partnership with Biamp is a great opportunity for my students to become more aware of the opportunities and current issues in the audio and video field,” said Joseph Hoffbeck, an engineering professor at the University of Portland. “It is very useful for the students to see how circuit boards are manufactured, as well as meet with Biamp’s engineering staff.Since Biamp’s initial AV Week participation in 2007, Biamp has educated students on career opportunities in the AV industry and worked side-by-side with college career centers to boost awareness of opportunities for graduates.

“We have always remained firm in our belief that AV Week is an opportunity for Biamp to demonstrate the contributions and innovations the AV community provides to the world, our communities and even our lives,” said Steve Metzger, executive vice president and COO, Biamp Systems. “We are eager to bring these students in, as any one of them has the potential to be tomorrow’s audio industry innovator.”

The AVNetwork staff are storytellers focused on the professional audiovisual and technology industry. Their mission is to keep readers up-to-date on the latest AV/IT industry and product news, emerging trends, and inspiring installations.
