IHSE USA has launched the Draco vario XS DisplayPort 1.2 Extender Series, the first of a new family of extenders based on the JPEG XS video codec. Building on the proven technology found in all IHSE Draco KVM systems, the series offers a new set of high-performance extenders for 4K60.

Pro Convert IP to USB decodes IP video sources up to 1920x1080 resolution and can bring them into software as uncompressed video at full 60 frames per second or as MJPEG-compressed video at 30 frames per second. While 30fps is adequate for some video conferencing software, the 1080p60 capabilities of Pro Convert IP to USB flexibly support higher frame rate applications including telepresence solutions, live production software and more. Two channels of 16-bit, 48Khz audio can also be captured.

The Pro Convert IP to USB device is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Compliant with the UVC specification, it offers driver-free installation and immediate compatibility with a wide range of video conferencing (such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams), streaming and production software. When integrated with Shield AI’s Tracker software, the solution can automatically detect and track objects in live video captured by crewed or uncrewed aircraft operating in complex land and maritime environments. Downstream systems can use the combined video with augmented tracking information either as overlays of tracking boxes or as inputs to common operating picture tools like TAK or ATAK. Together, these capabilities streamline the ISR workflow, enabling faster, more informed decision-making in mission-critical operations.

With the introduction of EasyIP Tx/Rx, EasyIP systems now support multicasting, allowing a single source to be received at any number of destinations. SMPTE has joined with Avid to publish a new standard for the VC-3 codec in Interoperable Master Format (IMF). The VC-3 standard, a codec implementation that Avid provides under the DNx brand, is a primary production codec used by enterprise media organizations around the world for critical broadcast functions such as capture, editing, rendering, base transcoding, and long-term archive. SMPTE ST 2067-70 is a new standard that specifies an application of the IMF framework covering usage of VC-3 as specified in SMPTE ST 2019-1.

"For many of Avid's customers, the DNx family of codecs, VC-3, is used in their productions as a mezzanine format to maximize quality while obtaining superior editing performance on common off-the-shelf desktop and server platforms," said Avid VP of Technology, Shailendra Mathur. "This newly published standard will ensure that the same mezzanine-quality codec used in production can now be passed through to the IMF mastering stage for distribution."

[ST 2110: An Introduction]

IMF is an important international media standard for providing a single interchangeable master file format and structure for the distribution of content. IMF is a family of SMPTE Standards (SMPTE ST 2067) that simplifies the storage of all the audiovisual content needed to create different versions for distribution to multiple territories and platforms in one package. It is an essential component of modern, high-scale content fulfillment and has enabled the building of simplified delivery and processing systems for versioning. The IMF package itself can be used for B2B content exchange between content owners, post facilities, and distribution platforms.

As VC-3 is a primary production codec used when delivering to a variety of broadcasters, the new ST 2067-70 standard covers its usage with IMF, which enables delivery in VC-3 codecs that closely matches the ideals of IMF in keeping the maximum quality possible for future distribution/reversion and archive. The standard allows any broadcast facility to deliver final assets for broadcast/archive with as much of the original creative intent in place as possible. It also offers a choice to use a constant bit rate (CBR) codec profile, which enables predictability for storage and network transport. The standardization will provide time and cost savings, and it bypasses quality degradation due to the ability to pass through previously encoded content without having to transcode into a different format.

The DPP, an organization whose membership spans the media supply chain including media technology and production companies, initially approached SMPTE and Avid as a co-proponent in the development of this standard, which offers significant workflow advantages over the alternatives currently in the specification, including the easy insertion of changes (before creating a final IMF deliverable) and potentially faster turnaround times.

"It has been great to support the collaboration between Avid and SMPTE to enable the use of VC-3 codec within the IMF framework," said DPP technology strategist David Thompson. Key Digital has updated its in-line Ultra HD/4K 18G HDMI Fixer with the release of the KD-FIX418A-2, an update to its in-line Ultra HD/4K 18G HDMI Fixer. This new release is important for integrators by meeting the evolving market needs and offering switchable 4K down-conversion to 1080p to support legacy monitors and projectors, as well as de-embedded digital audio via a TOSLINK optical port.

The new offering joins five existing Eco Capture M.2 cards including single-input (HDMI or SDI) 4K models; dual-channel models that capture HD and 2K video over HDMI or SDI; and a quad-channel HD/2K model with SDI inputs.

MSolutions has partnered with the IPMX community to add further utility when bridging HDBaseT rooms through IPMX AV-over-IP networks. New deployments continue to leverage the cost effectiveness and security of HDBaseT. The new MSolutions MS-0401E complements new HDBaseT to IPMX gateways by allowing HDBaseT products connected to a HDBaseT switch to be available on the broader AV-over-IP network. It also adheres to the same open specifications powering IPMX and remains controllable from standard NMOS controllers.

Cobalt has made Dante’s IP-based audio networking solution available to users on a license-basis, which is field upgradable, by incorporating the functionality into the Company’s 9904-UDX processing card. The +UDX-Dante-16x16 supports embedding and de-embedding all the way to 12G with full audio routing capabilities between SDI, MADI, and Dante, both input and output, adding up to 32 channels to existing 9904 cards for a high-density solution without the need for any new hardware. Users will be able to ingest and process up to 16 audio channels from the network and will be able to output up to 16 channels back into the network using Dante and the Ethernet port. 

In addition to accessing Dante on Cobalt’s 9904 cards, users will also have access to the card’s other functions such as UDX, color correction, 3D-LUT, frame-sync, and audio mixing which are still available while embedding and de-embedding to/from SDI.
