At InfoComm 2021, IHSE will be showcasing products that provide hybrid work solutions to maintain secure environments between work-at-home and office connectivity. Remote workers present a unique challenge to protecting confidential company data because remote work environments usually don’t have the same safeguards in place that would be found in an office environment. When workers are at the office, they are typically behind several layers of security control and firewalls. While there may be different levels of security in an office environment, it becomes a much higher risk to the company to prevent security breaches once a computer leaves the office security perimeter. This is why it’s important to make sure you have security measures in place to protect peripheral devices from cyberattacks. 

IHSE’s Secure IP Remote Access Gateway (SIRA) overcomes the problems associated with security, accessibility, immediacy, and image quality of traditional packetized remote IP-connection to distant computers using client-server models. SIRA’s premise is simple and straightforward: It provides KVM extension over an IP network by extending keyboard, mouse, USB, and video signals in the same manner that IHSE’s traditional KVM extenders transfer signals. It means that a remote operator can access any desired computer, at any distance away, using a keyboard and mouse as though they were physically located alongside that computer.

The signals passed between the operator and computer retain full integrity, have the highest possible transmission rate, and can be switched on demand. Most importantly, total system security is maintained. The only data transferred over the network is visual images and USB commands. So, it is almost impossible to mount cyber-attacks that take operational control of computers or plant malicious software.

The What: EMCEE200 is a multiview presentation switcher scaler from Hall Technologies with Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-Over-Picture (POP) capabilities. It can process up to four 4K@60 video sources simultaneously with zero latency and offers dedicated confidence monitor and presentation HDMI outputs.

The What Else: EMCEE features a built-in dual mic mixer and a wide range of audio embedding and de-embedding options. Its modular expansion slot design and a growing assortment of expansion cards adds adaptability and functionality whenever needed. In addition to recording a presentation to an external storage device, EMCEE provides USB 3.0 4K capture to stream live with no additional hardware.

Twitch builds communities by providing a platform for millions of people to come together live every day to chat, interact, and make their own entertainment. To help their employees brainstorm and work in fluid combinations of teams, the meeting rooms at the new regional headquarters in New York, referred to as HQ 2.0, include high-performance AV presentation systems. Each system also supports overflow capabilities. 

System control is powerful, yet intuitive and easy for employees to use without requiring assistance. Also, the support team can monitor and operate any system from a remote location if necessary. Working side by side with Twitch AV Support, AV integration firm Diversified deployed a standardized solution using products from Extron.

“We chose to work with Extron because they embody our mission and values here at Twitch to empower communities to create together,” Kevin Little, AV support engineer at Twitch. “We know through collaborative efforts with them that Extron is a community, truly working hard to create solutions that work for us.”

Rooms include the company’s standardized selection of sources and displays. Each space provides DTP matrix switching or point-to-point presentation systems that work within Twitch’s infrastructure and organizational requirements. The size and use of the space determined the number of sources and displays as well as the type of system installed. Systems include wired and wireless connectivity, easy collaboration using an Extron HC 404 system, session recording, superb sound reinforcement, and videoconferencing capabilities.

As an example, the All-Hands event space on the 19th floor includes a 3x3 video wall at the front and a confidence monitor mounted on the front-facing side of the first column. An Extron DTP CrossPoint 108 4K IPCP MA 70 10x8 presentation matrix switcher with built in 4K scaling facilitates AV signal switching and distribution. For convenient overflow using professional AV over IP, Extron NAV E 101 encoders and NAV SD 101 decoders support the displays installed near the north and south entries over Twitch’s network.

Portable HDMI devices can be connected to the system using any of the DTP T HWP 4K 331 D one-gang wallplate transmitters installed on the front and rear walls. To support Twitch’s custom SDI I/O wallplates and integrated SDI sources, Diversified installed Extron SW4 12G HD SDI four-input switchers and DSC 3G HD A scalers to provide local switching and signal conversion to HDMI for input to the matrix switcher. DSC HD 3G A units convert output signals back to SDI for devices connected at an SDI wallplate. A locking cabinet with rack-mounted system components, such as the matrix switcher and the NAVigator system manager for the NAV Pro AVoIP devices, is at the back of the room.

The chosen DTP CrossPoint matrix switcher provides an integrated DSP audio processor with AEC, as well as a control processor. However, the large quantity of audio sources required the use of an Extron DMP 128 C AT DSP processor. An XPA 2001 70V audio amplifier works in concert with SF 26PT SoundField 6.5-inch two-way pendent speakers to create a distributed audio system. The speaker’s unique single-cable suspension design allowed them to be flush-mounted to the ceiling beams without an extraneous support system.

A custom interface on the Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanels makes it easy for any user to start, join, and end a meeting or event. Commands range from simply selecting a source to activating the videoconferencing system and controlling sound levels. In the event space, a TLP Pro 1025M 10-inch touchpanel is wall-mounted near the main display. To provide similar functionality in the boardroom and conference rooms, a TLP Pro 725T 7-inch tabletop touchpanel is located at the conference table.

From concept to commissioning and training, the HQ 2.0 project took a little over a year to complete.

At first glance, the Kramer VP-440X appears no different from any standard switcher, but I didn’t need to work with it for long to realize its potential. Its compact size, versatility, features, and ease of use—all in a half-rack footprint and at a very reasonable cost—set this product apart.

The VP-440X’s size makes it easy to install in small racks, under tables, behind displays, and more. It’s unfortunate that the rack mount kit is not included. If all equipment like this included a rack mount kit, installers wouldn’t have to remember two part numbers and pay additional costs.

Its size does not limit the number of available ports. I had four digital HDMI inputs and one HDMI output capable of 4K 60 4:4:4. I am always skeptical of this statistic, but it proved to be true when I tested with Quantum Data. In addition to the digital inputs, it has one VGA input—for versatility, and for those who haven’t updated their laptop in a decade. There’s also a HDBaseT output. It’s not a matrixed output, and it mirrors the HDMI, but it worked for my situation.

The Kramer VP-440X is more than a switcher; it’s a scaler, too. Scalers are overlooked far too often in basic designs, and they’re an important tool in signal distribution, as we all know. This scaler is versatile and allows for upscaling, cross-scaling, downscaling, or native passing of the displays.

One of my favorite features of this unit is the audio. Many small HDMI switchers and scalers only work in the digital world, but this one allows audio embedding and de-embedding. There is a digital signal processor that will do equalization, mixing, source audio selection, and even microphone mixing. Applications I would use this for would most likely not require the microphone feature, but others may find that feature very useful. The ability to digitally process the audio and microphone is a handy tool.

The only fault I found with this product relates to the physical input; I’m not a fan of the microphone input being on the front. To be fair, there is not much room left on the VP-440X’s rear without expanding it to a full rack width. This device’s primary appeal is its size, and since the microphone is most likely not the most commonly used feature, putting it on the front makes sense.

The VP-440X has all the typical features you would expect, including HDCP, HDR, and EDID pass-through. Third-party control is no problem via RS-232, IP, or even contact closure. Control of the display is even possible via CEC, which can also be triggered via the control commands.

This device from Kramer offers much more than a standard switcher/scaler, and at a reasonable cost. It is rich with features, has versatile installation options, and is easy to use and set up. Smooth constant sync switching brings a more naturally acceptable switching to any application in the classroom, boardroom, church, or other facility type.

On July 30, Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty unveiled ATEM Mini Pro ISO, a low-cost live production switcher with a five-stream recording engine that allows all video inputs to be recorded, allowing a live production to be edited after the event.

In addition to recording up to five separate H.264 video streams in real time—a clean feed of all four inputs plus the live program—ATEM Mini Pro ISO also records all audio files, media pool graphics, and a DaVinci Resolve project file, so customers can later adjust edits, change shots, remix audio, and add color correction. The video files include metadata tags such as synced timecode and camera numbers.

ATEM Mini Pro ISO is available now from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US $895.

“This new model of ATEM Mini is a true innovation in workflow. For the first time, live production has been fully integrated into a post-production editing workflow. Not only that, but with Blackmagic RAW integration, we can use the ISO files recorded in the switcher, or the files recorded in the camera,” said Petty. “That’s a RAW film workflow, a post production workflow and a live production workflow all fully integrated for the first time!"

ATEM Mini Pro ISO joins ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro in Blackmagic’s line of multicamera live production switchers. Each of the four HDMI inputs feature their own dedicated standards converter. That means ATEM Mini will automatically convert 1080p, 1080i, and 720p sources to the video standard of the switcher. The switcher sets its video format automatically, but the user can specify a specific video standard if required. The HDMI output is a true "aux" output so you can clean switch each HDMI input or program to this output.

The What: Analog Way has launched a new range of 4K60 multi-layer video mixers and seamless presentation switchers, the Midra 4K series. The range includes four products: QuickVu 4K, QuickMatrix 4K, Pulse 4K, and Eikos 4K.

The What Else: The Midra 4K series presentation switchers feature ten inputs, including eight 4K60 inputs (four HDMI 2.0, two 12G-SDI and two DisplayPort 1.2) and two 1080p inputs with user-selectable HDMI and SDI connectors.

The What: Kramer Electronics has released the VS−84UT, an all−in−one, 8x4 4K@60Hz (4:2:0) audio−video presentation system matrix switcher with integrated range extension and an integrated control capability. 

The What Else: The unit switches the video, embeds the audio, and outputs the signal to both HDMI and HDBaseT 2.0 outputs. The HDBaseT input and output ports offer USB extension and selectable PoE.

The VS−84UT includes a K-Config room controller that can operate over Ethernet (LAN) with control ports that include: one bidirectional RS−485, four RS−232, four IR, four GPI/O, and eight relays to control a variety of AV devices. It includes a KNET connector interface that enables access to the K-Config controller from compatible control keypads. The unit can also provide power to the control keypads via the KNET connectors.

The What: Extron is now shipping the SW4 12G HD-SDI, a four-input, two-output 12G-SDI switcher. 

The What Else: The SW4 12G HD‑SDI supports video resolutions up to 4K/60, HDR, and data rates up to 11.88 Gbps, including all common serial digital video data rates specified by SMPTE and ITU standards. To ensure signal integrity over long cable runs, it provides automatic input cable equalization and output reclocking. RS-232, front panel, and auto-input switching control options allow ease of integration into a variety of applications and environments.

To enhance and simplify operation, the SW4 12G HD-SDI switcher provides many user-friendly features including automatic cable equalization on inputs for signal attention with cables up to 230 feet (70 meters) for 12G‑SDI transmissions, 787 feet (240 meters) for HD‑SDI, and 984 feet (300 meters) for SDI. LED indicators on the front panel provide visual confirmation of the detected data rate. Housed in a 1U, half rack width enclosure, the SW4 12G HD-SDI is suitable for rack-mounted or mobile applications.

The Bottom Line: The device switches multi-rate SDI video, embedded audio, and other ancillary data between four source devices and delivers simultaneous output signals to a pair of SDI displays or sink devices.

The What: Roland Pro AV has introduced the V-02HD Multi-Format Video Mixer, which combines a simple switcher, high-quality scaler, input expander, and inline video effects/composition and audio solution in one portable unit. 

The What Else: As a simple switcher, Roland’s V-02HD can provide a professional cross-dissolve switchover between sources while maintaining hi-res “pixel-accurate” display resolution with deep 10-bit 4:4:4 color space. It can also transform a two-camera shoot into a one-person production, providing reliable recording or livestreaming. The unit accepts the outputs from two HDMI cameras and enables seamless switching to a connected recorder or livestreaming encoder. Simple two-button operation means that even a first-time user can accomplish professional switching of multiple sources, and hands-free switching is possible using an optional footswitch.

Not all HDMI-equipped devices are compatible, but the V-02HD matches them to the resolution of the receiving device and then resizes them to fit the associated display by offering both input and output scalers as well as HDCP/multi-format support. The V-02HD accepts SD, HD, and computer resolutions ranging from 1080/59.94p down to 640x480/60Hz VGA. 

Transition, composition, and visual effects tools may be applied in real time from the front panel controls. Fourteen visual effects and five composition effects are included, with adjustable parameters to fine-tune the results. Operators can use the onboard composition effects to add titles, apply the key effect for green screen work, or create a separate inset window with the PinP capability. In case of an input source problem or if content is not yet ready or able to be shared, the V-02HD can store a still image for immediate display. 

The V-02HD mixes two-channel audio from sources with HDMI de-embedding along with one stereo analog input for external sources via a 3.5mm jack. The unit supports analog and 24-bit/48kHz linear PCM digital audio with embedding to the HDMI outputs for recording or livestreaming, as well as analog output to a dedicated audio mixer or other device, or for headphone monitoring, through a second 3.5mm jack. 

Onboard audio processing includes three-band EQ, high-pass filter, compressor, noise gate, multi-band compressor, limiter, and delay, and there is a test tone output. A built-in effects library offers presets for managing common production scenarios such as interviews, ambient sound recording, and the elimination of wind noise when filming outdoors. These tools even work with inline HDMI signals, allowing audio issues to be addressed without leaving the digital domain.

The Bottom Line: This ultra-compact “micro-switcher,” designed for solving challenges in livestreaming and video production workflows, fits into most equipment cases and camera bags making it easy to have on hand for every production and also conveniently attaches to standard video mounts and tripods.

The What: Presentation Switchers has released the PS105, the first in its AV+IoT series of compact digital presentation switchers targeting collaboration and small conference room spaces.

The What Else: In its most basic form, the PS105 is a simple, under-table mountable 2 X 1 HDMI auto-switcher that automatically displays the most recently connected device in the native resolution of the display. The users’ connection automatically turns on the display and then later turns off the display when all users have disconnected their laptops or mobile devices from the switcher. The proximity sensor feature turns the display off 2-10 minutes after all users have left the room, even if a laptop is left connected.

Additionally, the PS105 is compatible with Cloud Control, the company’s proprietary Amazon AWS MQTT IoT server-based application. To be released in November 2018, Cloud Control provides administrative control, configuration, and usage statistics for PS switchers, including the latest PS600-series of digital modular presentation systems.

The Bottom Line: The PS105 measures 4 inches X 4 inches X 1.2 inches and each product kit includes an under-table mounting plate, screws, pre-terminated remote proximity sensor, a captive screw-on power supply, and rubber feet if the PS105 is to be placed on the conference room table.

The What: FSR has issued a firmware upgrade for its DV-HSW-21A and DV-MFSW-21A 2X1 HDMI switchers that can make them FIFO or LIFO with a simple serial command.

The What Else: The DV-HSW-21A is a 2X1 HDMI Switcher that supports up to 4K x 2K @ 30Hz, is HDMI 1.4 and HDCP compliant, and features embedded audio support. The DV-MFSW-21A 2X1 Switcher includes one HDMI and one VGA (HD-15) Input and HDMI output and also supports resolutions up to 4K x 2K @ 30Hz. The VGA (HD-15) supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 @60Hz and features analog video converted to HDMI with embedded audio. It is also HDMI 1.4 and HDCP compliant.

The Bottom Line: The new units with the firmware upgrade are now shipping.

The What: tvONE has introduced the 1T-SX-654 auto switcher with four HDMI video inputs and one HDMI output.

The What Else: This ultra-thin 4x1 HDMI 2.0 switcher supports video resolution up to 4Kx2K@60Hz 4:4:4: HDR and provides 18Gbps of high bandwidth.

The switcher includes an auto-switch control mode, which automatically switches to an HDMI input as soon as a new source is connected. Additional control options include control via the front panel source button, RS-232 or IR (remote control included).

The Bottom Line: Audio functionality includes multi-channel support, de-embedded digital stereo audio to provide an analog output, or an audio return channel (ARC) for transmitting audio back to the HDMI input from the connected display.

The What: ATEN Technology, Inc. has unveiled its 4-port USB Boundless KM Switch (CS724KM).

The What Else: A key feature of the switch is ATEN’s exclusive Boundless Switching technology, which enables users to switch between multiple computers in multi-monitor extended desktops by moving the mouse cursor across any of the display borders in any direction to instantly select the target computer and take full control.

The Boundless Switching function supports extended desktops with up to eight monitors when two switches are daisy-chained, speeding up switching between computers for a smooth and hassle-free user experience. The What: Extron has introduced the new IN1808 Series, eight-input seamless presentation switchers with 18 Gbps support and 4K/60 @ 4:4:4 video scaling.

The What Else: They feature the Extron-exclusive Vector 4K scaling engine with 30-bit internal video processing for best-in-class image upscaling and downscaling. A flexible mix of DisplayPort, HDMI, and DTP2 inputs are provided along with an assignable input loop-through and simultaneous HDMI and DTP2 outputs. These feature-rich switchers include Extron ProDSP audio processing, seamless video transition effects, and logo keying. Additional models are available with an integrated 100 watt stereo or mono power amplifier and built-in IPCP Pro control processor. IN1808 presentation switchers are ideal for use in meeting rooms, boardrooms, classrooms, and collaboration environments that require support for 4K/60 video.

The Bottom Line: DTP2 input and output ports support 4K/60 @ 4:4:4 chroma sampling and allow signal extension of video, audio, and control signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CATx cable. It supports HDMI 2.0 data rates up to 18 Gbps and incorporates the Extron-exclusive Vector 4K scaling engine with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 30-bit internal video processing.

The What Else: Offering a host of features including seamless switching effects, logo keying, RS-232 insertion via Ethernet port, and simultaneous DTP2 twisted pair and HDMI output capability, the IN1806 provides the performance and flexibility to support the demanding presentation environments.

The Bottom Line: The IN1806 features one DisplayPort and five HDMI inputs with an HDMI loop-through for convenient local monitoring. The DTP2 twisted pair output is compatible with DTP and DTP2 receivers and supports integration with XTP CrossPoint matrix switchers. The twisted pair output can also be configured to send signals to an HDBaseT-enabled display.

The What: Atlona is set to debut Opus, a series of three HDMI-to-HDBaseT matrix switchers and one receiver for high performance 4K HDR signal distribution and extension. Opus is engineered with a comprehensive range of control system integration and audio matrixing features. The Opus Series includes the AT-OPUS-46M (4x6); AT-OPUS-68M (6x8); and AT-OPUS-810M (8x10) matrix switchers, all of which feature HDBaseT outputs for transmission of HDMI, Ethernet pass through, bidirectional IR, and RS-232 control signals up to 330 feet.

The What Else: A companion Atlona receiver, the AT-OPUS-RX, is purpose-built for the Opus matrix switchers. The receiver is remotely powered over Ethernet (PoE), and interfaces IR, RS-232 and Ethernet control for displays while also allowing IR control transmission back to a source device. The dedicated Opus receiver is compatible with all video resolutions, audio formats and color space formats supported in the HDMI 2.0b specification with the added ability to pass metadata for HDR streaming content.

“With many new High Dynamic Range televisions on the market, integrators are facing customer demands for AV systems that support these formats, or for their current systems to be upgraded to HDR capability,” said Joshua Castro, product manager, Atlona. “The Opus Series is the next stage in the evolution of our HDMI-to-HDBaseT matrix switcher product line for integrators looking to take on the challenge of building a video distribution system to accommodate 4K/UHD video at a 60 Hz frame rate with 4:4:4 chroma sampling.”

To optimize multi-zone AV capabilities, all Opus receivers are also compatible with Atlona’s AT-JUNO-451-HDBT switcher, and the Velocity control platform, an IP- and cloud-enabled solution for transitioning control applications to the network.

The Bottom Line: Opus switchers are ideal for whole-house residential AV distribution, as well as light commercial, education and corporate projects that require compatibility with new and emerging devices for 4K presentations. Atlona will showcase Opus at CEDIA in Booth 3015.

When it comes to delivering AV signals from multiple sources over long distances to multiple video displays, the traditional matrix switcher has evolved to accommodate 4K HDR, HDMI, and HDCP 2.2 content protection. Manufacturers in this category are finding new ways to enhance the traditional capabilities of the matrix switcher, while also offering alternatives in the form of AV-over-IP solutions, and even blended technologies that allow for a gradual transition from one technology to another.

While RGB Spectrum still provides traditional, rack-based matrix switcher solutions, director of product marketing John Henkel said that customers across all verticals have been looking for ways to bring together a variety of distributed sources and then switch them to single or multiple different outputs that could also be distributed far away from the switch. So, to complement its HDBaseT and fiber solutions, the company introduced the Zio AV-over-IP ecosystem—a network-based matrix switcher “and then some,” according to Henkel.

The encoders in the Zio system can be placed at each source, wherever they are located, while decoders or multiviewers can be placed directly at the display. The user interface can be accessed via any web browser, allowing the operator to be located anywhere and have full access to the entire Zio system.

To meet the needs of today’s geographically dispersed AV networks, Zio products can be scaled up by adding encoders or decoders to the network, as needed.

“Zio products are based on a peer-to-peer architecture that provides near infinite scalability,” Henkel said. “And, unlike other networked AV systems that require the additional expense of a dedicated server, Zio’s peer-to-peer architecture is server-less, saving money, and reducing points of failure.”

The Zio user interface is web-based so any web browser can log in, and depending on their assigned access privileges, administer the system from anywhere. “We provide thumbnails of all the Zio-encoded sources so the operator knows right away what source they want to route and what is currently routed to a destination,” Henkel explained.

For those who are apprehensive about switching over their entire system to a new AV-over-IP solution, RGB Spectrum also offers a complete line of networked AV products that can be added to any system as needed to bring in distant sources or switch to a display that is across the network. These can be used with existing matrix switchers and other equipment or can operate as a wholly contained matrix switching solution.

Extron Electronics has released the DXP HD 4K PLUS Series to meet the ever-increasing demand for a matrix switcher with 4K/60 video distribution capability and support for the latest HDCP 2.2 content protection standard. Another main driving factor for the development of this new lineup was the HDMI 2.0b specification, which includes data rates up to 18Gbps, HDR, and Deep Color up to 12-bit.

Extron Electronics director of product marketing Joe da Silva explains that an audio de-embedding feature in the switcher also assures that system designers won’t need to add “another box” to the system and that the hurdles of onsite setup and commissioning have been significantly minimized by Extron’s Product Configuration Software.

For classrooms, training rooms, divisible rooms, and command and control centers, 8x8, 8x4, and 4x4 options provide contractors with more flexibility in designing their systems. “This series also provides automatic input cable equalization, allowing for longer cable runs and even further flexibility in installations,” da Silva said. “Additionally, as many systems turn toward energy-efficient designs, our lineup provides contractors with new power save modes that can prove beneficial and attractive for these special projects.”

Atlona’s three new matrix switchers—the Opus Series of 4K HDR HDMI to HDBaseT Matrix Switchers and the Opus receiver for 4K HDR HDMI over 100-meter HDBaseT transmission—are offered in 4x6, 6x8, and 8x10 configurations, each equipped with a comprehensive host of audio and control system integration features. The compatible OPUS-RX receives HDMI, Ethernet pass-through, and bidirectional IR and RS-232 control signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over Cat-6a/7 cable.

Atlona’s director of marketing Garth Lobban noted that while HDBaseT is a robust and well-known method for extending HDMI signals over Cat-6a/7 cable, it has a data rate limitation of 10.2Gbps, significantly below the required 18Gbps data rate in the HDMI 2.0 specification. To accommodate the challenge of these higher HDMI data rates, Atlona utilized what it says is visually lossless VESA Display Stream Compression (DSC), enabling HDR and 4K60 4:4:4 signal extension over HDBaseT with zero frames of latency.

Additionally, Lobban pointed out that customers who had installed Atlona’s previous generation of matrix switchers told the company that they needed more audio matrixing capability. That led product designers to build in a full, independent audio matrix with both TOSLINK and balanced audio outputs for these customers.

Arista Corporation president Paul Shu said that the biggest challenge to traditional AV matrix switchers has been the growth limitation of the switcher frame itself and the number of inputs and outputs.

“A commonly encountered challenge arises when the need to add one more device to a maxed-out AV system occurs, since the switcher doesn't have any remaining inputs or outputs,” Shu said.

Arista’s IP Flash Caster Series enables the connection of as many encoders and decoders as a network design requires, with the ability to scale up further as requirements evolve.

“Based on the network configuration, you are also no longer limited to AV signals being confined within the room,” Shu explained. “The decoders can be configured to display any stream from any of the encoders. This provides single endpoint devices for small installations and a rackmount cluster (16 blades per 5U rackmount) for larger installations. These decoders can be added to the switching design as needed.”

The IP Flash Caster Series is designed to deliver 4K60 4:4:4 uncompressed signal over 10Gbps network switches and provides a variety of endpoint device configuration options—from a single endpoint device to a 16-blade rackmount unit. The IP Flash Caster Series also offers a variety of video format input options, as well as splitter output configuration capability to address every possible application requirement.

“With its ability to easily adapt to growing or otherwise evolving environments simply by connecting as many encoders and decoders as required, the IP Flash Caster represents a cost-effective solution for a wide range of AV applications,” Shu added. “With its low latency and high-quality video performance attributes, the IP Flash Caster makes an excellent choice for command centers, hospitals, broadcast, and live event production. It is also well suited for conference facilities, convention centers, and events that demand high video quality.”

The What: Hall Research has introduced the HSM-88-4K compact 1U cross-point video switch. The matrix supports HDMI resolutions up to 4K and also supports HDCP 2.2, deep-color video, PCM, Dolby, DTS, and HD audio standards.

The What Else: Users are able to save and recall multiple video routing configurations as "Presets". The matrix includes a two-line LCD on its front panel in order to display the current video routing and to facilitate creating or recalling Presets. All input and output buttons are back-lit and users can initiate "ties" starting from input or the output buttons for maximum flexibility. Individual video outputs can also be blanked, a feature that can be beneficial during certain presentations.

The design of the HSM-88-4K also extends to its control command set. Commands use simple English syntax and a host of commands are provided for monitoring and controlling all aspects of the product's function. Both IP/Telnet and RS-232 ports are included. The matrix also ships with an IR remote control that can be used to route video.

Intelligent EDID management allows users to specify fixed EDIDs for each input, but the matrix can also calculate EDID for each input intelligently based on the capabilities of the connected outputs. This will ensure that all outputs will have a video, and the video will be at the highest resolution possible. For example, if an input is routed to two outputs where one supports 4K video but the other supports 1080p, the matrix uses an EDID with 1080p forcing the source to output 1080p, but if all routed outputs support 4K, the matrix will automatically use 4K as the native resolution in its EDID.

The Bottom Line: The HSM-88-4K is ideal for conference rooms, multimedia presentations, digital signage, houses of worship, and many other applications. It has a suggested list price of $2450 and is available from stock.

The What: tvONE, a designer and manufacturer of video and multimedia processing equipment, debuts the MG-CT-612 HD-One ultra-thin Receiver, which provides HDMI 4K extension and power over HDBT up to 40 meters (130ft) and HD extension up to 70 meters (230ft).

The What Else: The MG-CT-612 is compatible with Magenta HD-One TX’s and tvONE CORIO products providing extra flexibility and reliability. The MG-CT-612 is HDMI 1.4 HDCP 2.2 compliant and delivers full HD video, 3D and 4Kx2K, RS-232 and IR along with PoH to a compatible TX.

The Bottom Line: The MG-CT-612 Receiver offers a seamless Power over HDBaseT (PoH) installation with the MG-WP-611 series wall plates, which enable switching and extension for HDMI & VGA signals. The Receiver’s ultra-thin form factor allows the unit to be mounted easily behind any monitor.

The What: Key Digital, a manufacturer of professional A/V and control systems, has introduced the KD-MAX8x8 eight input to eight output audio matrix switcher with built-in audio DSP featuring analog and digital connections per input and output.

The What Else: This matrix switcher enables analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion of signals, or can operate as two independent audio matrixes (one digital and one analog). Analog audio inputs are connected on balanced/unbalanced six pin phoenix terminal blocks, accommodating input signals from audio sources such as set top boxes and music players in addition to professional audio sources. Digital audio sources are input on a PCM coaxial RCA connection that supports surround formats up to Dolby and DTS 5.1.

The Bottom Line: KD-MAX8x8 joins a suite of Key Digital IP enabled products that are now app ready. The engineers at Key Digital have created an easy way for installers and users to switch inputs and control Key Digital systems via the Key Digital app, which can be downloaded free from the App Store.

Luxul, which specializes in IP networking solutions for AV integrators, announced that its 26-port/24 PoE+ AMS-2624P Gigabit managed switch was honored with an SCN InfoComm Installation Product Award in the "Most Innovative Signal Management Product" category at InfoComm 2018 in Las Vegas.

The AMS-2624P does well with expanding networks utilizing PoE-enabled devices, such as touchpanels, VoIP devices, IP cameras, and wireless access points. To simplify installations, PoE+ allows integrators to use standard Ethernet cables to deliver both power and high-speed data to 802.3/af/at-compliant devices, with a total power budget of 250 W for the AMS-2624P. For clean integration with AV rack systems, the switch features rear panel ports and front-facing, user-selectable blue or green LEDs.

In addition to AV signals, KD-SX440WP extends IR and RS-232 for controlling remotely located equipment. The wall-plate unit (Tx) fits in a standard US dual-gang box and is powered by the Rx unit for convenient installation.

Telstra installed a complete AMX by HARMAN AV control solution in Deakin University’s new Telstra Trading Room, a realistic stock exchange simulation located on Deakin’s Melbourne campus.

Established in 1974, Deakin University is an Australian research university. In order to provide its business students with real-world insight into the workings of a live stock exchange environment, Deakin Business School partnered with Australian communications provider Telstra to create a simulated trading room complete with tickers, displays and a large video wall providing real-time finance updates.

Deakin worked with HARMAN distributor avt and Telstra to design an AV control system that could handle the demands of a modern stock exchange trading floor. Telstra recommended AMX AV control systems for their user-friendly operation, innovative automation and reliable signal distribution.

“The Telstra Trading Room has received a lot of positive attention since opening” said Lorri Cahill, deputy general manager of business and law, Deakin University. “Supported by a sophisticated AMX AV system, the Telstra Trading Room is an innovative teaching space that helps our students learn real-world financial principles and concepts.”

The main video wall in the Telstra Trading Room consists of eight 55-inch LCD panels that can function independently or be combined to display a large number of input options. Two AMX Enova DGX 100 Series media switchers automatically distribute optimally scaled images to each of the displays that make up the trading wall, as well as other displays in the room. Four HD PTZ ceiling-mounted cameras are also connected to the Enova DGX switchers, enabling HD video conferencing with other facilities. The award-winning Enova DGX switchers incorporate all of the features the university needs to control and automate a high-tech environment such as a stock exchange.

“The Telstra Trading Room contains everything you’d expect to find in a working stock exchange”, said Mike David, project manager, Deakin University. “The AMX system provides the kind of advanced networking and automation required to manage the large number of AV signals and destinations.”

The AMX NI-4100 control system provides simplified operation of the complex AV system via two AMX Modero X-Series touch panels and two AMX eight-button keypads. The 20-inch Modero touch panels give users the space to perform multiple tasks simultaneously—from selecting video signals for individual or combined sections of the video wall, to controlling the pan and zoom of the HD PTZ cameras. The AMX keypads allow users to select real-time content for four additional 42-inch LCD panels.

Open Mesh will showcase its end-to-end, cloud managed WiFi platform at InfoComm 2018 booth C3202.

The platform is built around the company’s CloudTrax online management portal and offers a full complement of cloud-managed access points, switches, and routers that come with no recurring license fees.

“Open Mesh has built its reputation on providing reliable WiFi networks that are easy, powerful and can be managed remotely,” said Ryan Detwiller, the company’s general manager. With the recent launch of our first cloud-managed router, the G200, we can now provide an end-to-end solution that can be monitored and managed from anywhere from a single pane of glass.”

Open Mesh’s simplified installation process allows networks to be installed and operational much faster than traditional networks. Access points and switches can be pre-configured prior to physical installation, eliminating the need for each access point to be configured individually onsite. In locations where running cables can be problematic, the access point’s automatic mesh repeater mode requires only a power source to distribute the available WiFi signal.

Among the products the company will showcase at the show will be its three most recent introductions: The G200 router, complete with an integrated firewall and a quad core networking processor that provides full gigabit throughput; the A62, a 802.11 AC Wave 2 access point that features a quad core processor and a second 5 GHz radio to deliver higher data throughout and allow greater client density; and a new, enhanced version of its S24 switch, which adds 10GbE SFP+ connectivity and an increased PoE budget.

According to Detwiller, an Open Mesh-based system gives installers an easy way to create a cost-efficient network, billed either under a recurring revenue business model or as a one-time project that can be handed over to the customer. Through CloudTrax, installers can efficiently and cost-effectively monitor and manage all their customers’ networks from any location. Alerts can be set up to automatically notify the administrator should their be a disruption in the system, and often corrections can often be made remotely. “This capability keeps clients up and running,” said Detwiller. “It also drastically reduces the need for costly emergency truck rolls.”

Harman Professional Solutions announced Tuesday the AMX VPX Series Presentation Switchers, a family of multi-format presentation switchers that target small conference rooms and flipped classrooms.

The AMX VPX Series will be on display in booth N1105 at InfoComm 2018.

The VPX Series switchers support resolutions up to 4K60 4:4:4 and offer HDCP 2.2 compatibility to support the most current sources and displays.

The AMX VPX Series presentation switchers are available in two options:

•AMX VPX-1401 – The VPX-1401 is 4x1 switcher with 3 HDMI inputs and 1 VGA input.

•AMX VPX-1701 – The VPX-1701 is a 7x1 switcher that includes 5 HDMI inputs and 2 VGA inputs.

To simplify system design, VPX Series switchers include built-in scaling, providing automatic adjustment of video to match the ideal resolution of the display, with support for resolutions up to 4K60 4:4:4.

Because the VPX Series includes a mirrored HDBaseT output in addition to HDMI, the switcher can either connect directly to a standard HDBaseT input on a display or an AMX DXLite receiver. USB 2.0 distribution is also available over HDBaseT, allowing simplified connection to USB peripherals such as an AMX Acendo Vibe mounted near the display.

There are a variety of options to control the VPX Series as well. Front panel controls are available, as well as contact closure for use with AMX MyTurn Source Selector Buttons. VPX Series switchers are also NetLinx Native, allowing simplified integration with AMX automation systems.

Harman Professional Solutions, the global leader in networked audio, video, lighting and control systems, debuted Tuesday the AMX Connectivity and Transport (CT) Series, a family of 4K switching and distribution kits that combine switching, scaling and distance transport into a single kit that includes both a transmitter and receiver.

Two models are available, including a presentation kit targeting simple presentation applications and a conferencing kit that adds USB 2.0 transport and switching for use in web conferencing environments.

• AMX Conferencing Connectivity and Transport Kit – The Conferencing Connectivity and Transport kit was created to target web conferencing solutions where cameras, microphones, and other USB devices are installed in the room. The solution combines multi-format 4K60 video switching, scaling and distance transport with USB 2.0 peripheral switching. This allows dynamic sharing of room USB peripherals such as an AMX Acendo Vibe between visiting laptops, etc., and permanently installed devices such as an Acendo Core or room PC. This ensures excellent sound and visuals for guests whether they are using installed equipment or bringing their own devices.

The HDMX4K44 allows multiple sources to be displayed simultaneously on any display or have a single source split to several displays, allowing for greater installation design flexibility. Equipped with HDMI 2.0, the HDMX4K44 is capable of transmitting 4K@60Hz, 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling, and HDR. Vanco RS232-USB – USB 2.0 to RS232 Converter

The RS232-USB USB 2.0 to RS232 converter offers integrators easy connection of serial devices through a USB port. Compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 specifications, the RS232-USB can be used for PDA, modems and more with data transfer rates of 1 Mbps and more, and remote wake-up and power management. The RS232-USB offers support of serial interface DB9 and is compatible with Windows 2000/Server 2008/XP/ Vista/WIN7/WIN8/WIN10, Linux, and Mac OS v8.6 or higher.

The What: Christie has debuted Christie Terra, what it calls the first AV over IP switching and processing solution where the AV system directly processes signals for LED and flat panel video walls, which the company will showcase at InfoComm 2018 booth N706.

The What Else: The platform offers unlimited 4K60 source management and easy to manage 4K processing including: high quality scaling, clean switching, custom output resolutions and multi-viewer operation. Christie Terra can scale up to support LED displays that are as large as 30,720 x 17,280 pixels and, in multi-viewer mode, can show up to 32 images on a single display.

The Bottom Line: The Christie Terra is a flexible and scalable platform that delivers uncompromised video quality from source to an LED display – without compression, latency, or associated artifacts.

The What: Hall Research has released the HSM 44 BX, a 4K 4X4 HDMI Matrix Switch with simultaneous HDMI and HDBaseT outputs, which it will showcase at InfoComm 2018 booth N1145.

The What Else: The 4K matrix is a 4x4 cross-point switch in a compact 1-RU enclosure. Each output has an integrated video splitter so that simultaneous HDMI and HDBaseT are provided. The HDBaseT outputs extend HDMI, IR, RS-232, Ethernet, and Power over a single CAT6 cable to 100m (328 ft) and are compatible with all compliant HDBaseT receivers such as Hall Research's HBX-R which is a cost effective Receiver that provides HDMI, IR, RS-232 and IP (Ethernet) extension and sources its power from the matrix for maximum convenience.

The HSM-44-BX supports HDMI resolutions up to 4K @ 30 Hz 4:4:4 and 4K @ 60 Hz 4:2:0. It also supports HDCP 2.2 and 1.4, 3D, deep-color, PCM, Dolby, DTS, and HD audio standards. The matrix intelligently calculates EDID for each input based on the EDID of the connected sinks.

The What: Extron is introducing the IN1804, a series of compact four-input scalers that provide state-of-the-art video scaling, switching and integration features.

The What Else: The series supports HDMI 2.0b data rates up to 18 Gbps and incorporates Vector 4K scaling engine with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 30-bit internal video processing for best-in-class image quality.

Two available IN1804 models provide signal extension over shielded twisted pair cable. The IN1804 DI includes a DTP2 twisted pair input that can receive signals from remote DTP and DTP2 transmitters mounted at a conference table, lectern or wall. The IN1804 DO has a DTP2 twisted pair output that can send signals to a DTP or DTP2 receiver mounted behind a flat panel display, above a ceiling mounted projector, or in other remote locations. DTP transmitters and receivers are available in compact, low-profile enclosures, plus wallplate and floorbox form factors to suit a range of professional environments.

The Bottom Line: Offering a host of features including seamless switching effects, logo keying, still image recall, and optional twisted pair input / output capability, the IN1804 Series scalers provide the performance and flexibility to support the most demanding presentation environments.

The What: Harman Professional Solutions is now shipping its AMX by Harman N7142 Networked AV Presentation Switcher. The AMX N7142 combines local matrix switching with low-latency networked AV video distribution. With the ability to switch local AV sources and distribute video over the network in one solution, the N7142 presentation switcher is designed solution for applications like active learning environments and overflow classrooms.

The What Else: The AMX N7142 brings a variety of connectivity options, including 6x2 video switching along with two available networked AV card slots for use with the broad range of AMX encoder and decoder cards. The N7142 Presentation Switcher distributes UHD content from the latest 4K60 sources to most modern displays thanks to support for 4K60 4:4:4 video, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. Each of the two discrete video outputs also has a mirrored HDMI port for connecting to an additional display, encoder card or other video distribution equipment. The two available networked AV slots and an integrated gigabit Ethernet switch make distributing classroom presentations to student workstations or overflow seating as easy and immediate as a single LAN connection.

The switcher supports source HDMI audio, two microphone inputs with phantom power, as well as six independent stereo inputs. The N7142 includes a built-in DSP with AEC and a 60W stereo amplifier that can operate in 4/8 ohms, 70V or 100V modes via a user-selectable switch, for integration with existing AV infrastructures.

The Bottom Line: The AMX N7142 Presentation Switcher is available in two configurations: the NMX-PRS-N7142 and the NMX-PRS-N7142-23, which adds an N2300 Series encoder and N2300 Series decoder to the base configuration for ease of ordering and implementation. Both solutions offer a cost-effective foundation for delivering full-quality UHD content to next-generation active learning environments.

The SDVoE Alliance has created a new training and certification program designed to recognize AV industry professionals who leverage the SDVoE standards for AV network deployments.

The new online training module, created with input from AV consulting firms like HyperSphere Limited and Hewshott International, and AV/IT training firms like Clavia Ltd., is designed to offer quick and flexible training to those who create SDVoE systems that take advantages of AV-over-IP scalability, yet offer matrix-switch-like performance.

"We want busy people to be able to learn about SDVoE and AV-over-IP best practices—so we made the training available online, and easy to break up into a few five to 10 minute lesson modules," said Justin Kennington, president of the SDVoE Alliance. "It’s easy to start and finish across several sessions."

The program is free of charge; the SDVoE wants to be seen as "a valuable industry service, helping bridge the knowledge gap between AV designers and IT admins," according to Kennington.

The first course offered by the SDVoE focuses on system design. The SDVoE recognized a "hole" in design concepts featuring the new architecture that the SDVoE brings to the table.

"So much of AV-over-IP knowledge is just about learning to speak a new language—multicast, IGMP, the OSI model. We aren’t looking to turn AV integrators into IT admins, but we want to make the AV community more comfortable in the IT conversation," Kennington said. "Education makes it easier to separate fact from fiction."

The list of certified SDVoE designer partners will be published on the SDVoE Alliance website. End users who are interested in leveraging SDVoE technology to meet their business needs will be able to tap into the expertise of this specialist community.

As the group of certified design partners grows, their input will be used by the alliance to expand the tools available, including design templates, specifications, and case studies. "User feedback helps us build out a full curriculum that makes AV/IT convergence easy and comfortable, and that helps us keep the AV community strong and relevant," added Kennington.

“The SDVoE design partner training provides entrée into designing with products from all 39 members in the growing SDVoE ecosystem as we work together to support the alliance’s mission of replacing the matrix switch,” Kennington concluded. “We look forward to the contributions of new SDVoE design partners to the pool of knowledge and best practices guidelines related to SDVoE network deployments.”

The What: Atlona has expanded its range of high dynamic range (HDR) compatible AV integration solutions with the AT-HDR-H2H-88MA. The new matrix switcher provides high-performance switching of 4K/UHD signals including HDR formats in a space-efficient, 1RU design.

The What Else: An 8x8 sibling to Atlona’s AT-HDR-H2H-44M matrix switcher, the HDR-H2H-88MA builds on the performance, reliability, and integrator-friendly features of the 4x4 model with significantly expanded input and output capacity for larger-scale applications, according to the company. Support for all video resolutions, audio formats, and color spaces in the HDMI 2.0b specification provides compatibility with 4K/UHD and HDR sources and displays—as well as future HDR broadcast services—while HDCP 2.2 compliance enables switching of protected content.

The HDR-H2H-88MA supports 4K/UHD video at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and HDMI data rates up to 18 Gbps. Stereo, unbalanced audio outputs are paired with each HDMI input, enabling two-channel PCM audio to be de-embedded and sent to whole-house or commercial audio systems.

The What: Open Mesh has introduced its first cloud-managed router, the G200, an addition that completes the company’s local network ecosystem and delivers end-to-end suite of cloud-managed WiFi access points, switches and routers. Complete with an integrated firewall and a quad core networking processor that provides full gigabit throughput, the G200 delivers best-in-class performance.

The What Else: According to Ryan Detwiller, the company's general manager, the G200 is designed to advance the company’s mission of making networks smarter and easier to deploy and manage. When used with Open Mesh’s access points, switches and CloudTrax software, the complete system puts a several features at a network manager’s fingertips, including usage statistics, client management, and troubleshooting capabilities, as well as router-specific features, such as NAT routing, DHCP server, VPN client and point-to-point, VLAN tagging, and Quality of Service rules. This allows users to scale up to thousands of locations without on-site controllers or licensing fees, while still delivering gigabit throughput due to the quad core processor’s hardware offload and crypto engines.

The G200 also incorporates passive PoE capabilities through two of its ports to provide power to the connected access points. “This a tremendous convenience, because it greatly simplifies the installation process,” Detwiller said.

The What: In an effort to provide security professionals with best-in-class signal management solutions, Nortek Security & Control (NSC) introduced an all-new line of Xantech HDMI Distribution solutions. The new line—including extenders, splitters and switchers, matrix switchers, audio distribution solutions, and a signal manager—was first shown at ISC West 2018 in Las Vegas, NV.
