A Platform Built for Open Integration

Unlike closed AV over IP architectures, the SDVoE platform was designed from the outset around an open, standardized API and a multi-vendor hardware ecosystem. This architectural openness, long a foundation of SDVoE interoperability, now provides a direct path for integration with the rapidly maturing landscape of AI agents and enterprise automation tools.

“The same characteristics that made SDVoE the right answer for AV/IT convergence make it the right answer for the agent-driven workflows that enterprise IT is adopting now,” said DVIGear president Steven Barlow. “An open API is a precondition for AI assistance. SDVoE has had one for years. DisplayNet Connect for AI Agents is the first product to make that architectural advantage tangible for our customers.”

Lower Barrier to Entry

Designing, deploying, and maintaining an AV over IP system has historically required deep familiarity with platform-specific control languages and APIs. With AI-assisted workflows layered over the SDVoE API, technology teams can express intent in natural language and let the agent translate that intent into valid system configurations. This significantly broadens the population of practitioners who can productively work with the SDVoE platform.

Faster System Creation

Configurations that previously required hours or days of programming work can now be generated in minutes. Natural-language inputs can be translated directly into working SDVoE system configurations through the agent layer (e.g. create a four-source video wall feeding the conference room and the lobby, with the lobby muted by default). Multiple custom front ends, role-specific control panels, and one-off integrations become economically viable in environments where they previously were not.

Faster Troubleshooting and Support

System diagnostics represent some of the most time-consuming work in AV-over-IP support. AI agents are well-suited to this category of pattern-recognition work and can dramatically compress the time required to identify and resolve issues, particularly when paired with the rich diagnostic outputs already available in the SDVoE platform. Complex problems like multicast, IGMP behavior, and HDCP handshake issues, can be understood and resolved in a matter of minutes with agentic log analysis.

A Platform-Wide Direction

While DVIGear’s DisplayNet Connect for AI Agents is the first publicly available implementation, the SDVoE Alliance is actively encouraging member companies to develop equivalent integrations across their own product lines. The goal is not a single-vendor solution, but a platform-wide standard for AI-assisted AV-over-IP workflows, consistent with the SDVoE Alliance’s founding mission of standardization, interoperability, and ecosystem development.

In a video interview, Sean Bowman, associate vice president of North American sales at Shure, sat down with AV Technology’s Cindy Davis to discuss how InfoComm 2026 marks a major inflection point for the AV industry, the impact of AI, and how the company's new product solutions are designed for scalable, standardized AV/IT and real workflows.

According to Jim Reinhardt, U.S. sales manager for PlexusAV, the Pro AV industry is undergoing a significant transformation, as network-based video and audio become the backbone of modern systems. One of the biggest drivers of this shift is the growing adoption of open standards, particularly IPMX, which was launched as a certifiable standard for AV over IP transport at ISE 2026.

IPMX is gaining momentum in the industry, largely because the protocol promises something the industry has been asking for: brand interoperability. As systems become more complex and organizations deploy AV across larger networks, customers are demanding solutions that work across multiple manufacturers.

The long-term vision goes even further. As IPMX continues to gain traction, more AV devices such as projectors and flat-panel displays are expected to include native IPMX support. Eventually, the need for separate decoding hardware and extra HDMI connections will gradually fade, simplifying system design and allowing video to exist entirely on the network.

For PlexusAV, that open approach is central to its strategy. Reinhardt explained that the company is focused on building an ecosystem not only around AVoIP endpoints, the devices that encode and decode signals across a network. “There are different parts and pieces to a Pro AV solution, whether that’s traditional baseband or even AV over IP,” he said. “But it has to start somewhere.”

Of course, designing AVoIP solutions is never just about moving signals between points. Engineers must constantly balance three critical factors: video quality, latency, and bandwidth. Reinhardt described this balancing act as a “codec triangle.”

Achieving the highest performance across all three metrics is technically possible, but it’s very costly because it may require uncompressed networks that are impractical for most installations. Think 100 Gb networks—when the Pro AV market mostly lives within a 1 Gb network infrastructure. By optimizing performance within those 1 Gb constraints, PlexusAV aims to deliver high-quality video while keeping systems manageable for IT teams responsible for maintaining the network.

While not part of the codec triangle, another important factor is flexibility. Every deployment has unique requirements, and those requirements can vary depending on the use case. Some applications demand ultra-low latency, while others prioritize video quality or network efficiency. PlexusAV supports multiple compression technologies, giving integrators the ability to tailor installations based on the requirements of the end user, Reinhardt noted.

Beyond video distribution, the company is also expanding its product line through software and new hardware categories. One example is the Stream Conversion Gateway, a software-based “bridge” that converts various protocols from various sources (such as IPTV and NDI cameras) into IPMX-compatible streams for interoperability between all sources on one network. As a result, new and legacy equipment throughout a corporate or college campus can work together.

Audio is also becoming a bigger part of the equation. PlexusAV has unveiled a family of IPMX-enabled speaker solutions, including in-ceiling, pendant, and surface-mount models. These speakers leverage established audio networking standards like Dante and AES67 but use IPMX as the backbone for distribution.

Other new products include the PlexusAV HDBaseT 3.0 Wall Plate that delivers uncompressed, zero-latency video. With HDMI and USB-C inputs, it provides intelligent auto-switching as well as optional manual control for legacy and modern devices. Plus, the PlexusAV ChargeLink is a USB-C connection hub for small and medium-sized meeting spaces. A true one-cable solution, a single USB-C cable provides network access, data transfer, video sharing, and up to 100W of power delivery.

Looking ahead, PlexusAV is investing heavily in research and development. “Listen to the market, embrace the change of what the market’s looking for,” Reinhardt said. Customers will see the fruits of that labor later this year at NAB and InfoComm.

SCN: Beky, as an industry veteran, what made Re-Sauce the right fit for you?

Beky Cann: After 11 years in-house at Peerless-AV, I was ready for something more. Re-Sauce was a natural fit because I could see that the value proposition is unlike other agencies. Its two sides to the business offer a winning combination of sales strategy and storytelling. Gordon has built a business rooted in relationships and credibility, and I could see an opportunity to elevate the global PR and marketing side to match that strength.

There’s also a trust factor. Gordon and I have worked together for many years, including during our time at Peerless-AV, so we understand how each other operates and we bounce off each other. Re-Sauce isn’t just about noise; it’s about meaningful introductions, strong narratives, and measurable ROI. That’s exactly the kind of dynamic environment I wanted to be part of in my new career journey.

SCN: What is new in your role with Re-Sauce?

BC: As head of global PR and marketing, I’m leading an already strong, trusted network of local-language PR specialists across Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, several of whom are former editors of leading trade publications. With my 25+ years of experience in Pro AV, digital signage, electronics, and IT, I have a lot of connections, so I am re-opening doors for Re-Sauce with past client relationships, as well as some new ones.

SCN: What was it like returning to ISE in a new role after so many years with Peerless-AV?

BC: The variety at Re-Sauce is genuinely energizing—we have so many exciting brands, including D-Tools, PlexusAV, and Pufferfish. I returned from ISE this year with a whole new mindset, ready for the next wave of opportunities. This year I attended wearing several hats; as well as representing Re-Sauce, I am a committee member for the AVIXA Women’s Council UK and so was championing all the content and learning experiences we were involved in. Being in such a male-dominated industry, just seeing lots of women presenting and leading sessions on and off the show floor was fantastic. Female attendees were up this year, as the data being released officially by ISE shortly will confirm. Experiencing ISE from a broader lens reminded me why I love this industry. It’s vibrant, evolving, and incredibly relationship driven.

SCN: What are some of the more exciting developments you’ve seen recently?

BC: Display technology continues to evolve, especially in dvLED, where development is now about performance, integration, and lifecycle rather than pure pixel pitch. And creatively, we’re seeing more ambitious physical formats—curved, semi-transparent, spherical installations, and more—which push AV beyond traditional rectangles and into architectural storytelling.

Open standards are also particularly exciting. The work being done by the AIMS Alliance around IPMX is important because interoperability and ecosystem thinking are what will genuinely move the industry forward.

Gordon Dutch: At ISE 2026, AI was not just a buzzword, with brands like D-Tools starting to actively include AI into their platform. In general, AI is offering practical efficiencies across content management, analytics, and system optimization. It’s no longer seen as a threat but an opportunity.

Content was key at the show as well. The quality of content was amazing. One of the reasons why Pufferfish received so much attention at the Zones booth was due to the amazing content they created. I am confident that this will also be a key part of their success going forward.

"Push Beyond" was the official theme for ISE 2026 and whilst it didn’t initially resonate with me, now, having attended the show and reflecting back, I think it was a perfect fit. The industry is changing. IT and AV have already converged, broadcast and live events are converging now, and the advent of AI means the need for critical cybersecurity is high on the list. ISE gave us all of these and all in one place.

SCN: Gordon, how has Re-Sauce grown since it was founded in 2020?

GD: Re-Sauce has changed beyond all recognition since we launched. It became clear that the ability we had to create direct sales introductions between brands and global AV consultants and system integrators was something wholly unique. Whilst we are headquartered in the U.K., I have spent over 30 years living and working in the U.S. and bringing U.S. brands into Europe. Re-Sauce is also now taking European brands into the U.S. Bringing Beky on board will now allow me to spend for more time on the sales strategy and sales introductions, and so Beky can the concentrate on the PR and marketing, which is her forte.

BC: Prior to Peerless, I worked at a global tech PR company for over 10 years, and so I was lucky enough to work with some amazing people based all over the world. When I joined Peerless-AV, I brought over that knowledge and contacts. I am now doing the same for Re-Sauce. Re-Sauce already has a well-established global network of AV experts based in the U.K., U.S., LATAM, Middle East, APAC, Germany, France, and Iberia. This allows us to undertake highly technical case studies and translations that are not only correct in the local language, but in context to our industry. We can also become a “single point” for brands, which saves them a huge amount of time and makes them more efficient.

SCN: What makes the Pro AV space such a compelling area as a marketing and PR firm?

BC: To me, I think it’s because you can physically see and feel the impact of what our industry creates in any professional environment. It’s constantly evolving and there are so many interesting brands with unique stories to tell.

GD: It’s also an industry that thrives on relationships. Decisions are built on trust and that makes our direct sales relationships so important. We can normally get any of the brands we work with in front of their target customer with a personal introduction. Storytelling is also very important. It’s not just about product features, it’s about real-world outcomes, applications, and experiences—and that's where Beky really adds an extra dimension to Re-Sauce’s capabilities globally.

SCN: What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen in Pro AV since Re-Sauce was launched?

BC: I think the ecosystems that are created around Pro AV and workplace technology are so important now. Sustainability, interoperability, and lifecycle planning. There’s also far more crossover with broadcast and IT. The boundaries between AV, media production, and enterprise technology are increasingly merged and that’s so exciting.

GD: The one thing that hasn’t changed is the strength of relationships. Shows like ISE and InfoComm are such amazing events and need to be capitalized on. At Re-Sauce, we ensure that our clients don’t just “turn up” at a show. We ensure that their booth and products are already highlighted, and we ensure that there is a strong pre-show communication plan. We organize press events, coordinate public speaking opportunities, and meetings with key sales targets. That way, our brands maximize their ROI. You can’t just leave it to chance that people will “happen to pop by your booth.” These shows are a big investment and so the dollars need to count for something in terms of prospective sales.

SCN: Since hybrid, there hasn’t really been “the next big thing.” Is that good or bad?

BC: I guess we don’t need a standout, headline technology every year, so long as the industry keeps developing. Yes, brands all want to stand out in a competitive market and hype is good, but Re-Sauce is good at building brand visibility. Brand alliances and focus on better user journeys will support growth and confidence in tech going forward.

SCN: From a technology standpoint, what’s next for Pro AV?

BC: I don’t see the future as necessarily one “big thing.” It’s smarter, more connected, open systems delivering measurable value. However, there is no doubt that AI has gone from being just a buzzword to something far more meaningful. AI’s impact will be felt across our industry in terms of content creation, system designs, and many other areas.

GD: I also feel that whilst LED technology will continue to drop in cost and increase in quality, there will still be a space for projectors and other display technologies. One thing I do see more of is the awareness of just how important the audio aspect is in audiovisual. More and more end users are realizing the importance of better acoustics and higher quality sound is to retail experiences and UCC. I also believe that we will see higher quality and more immersive hologram technology in the future. As Beky said earlier, the boundaries between broadcast, live events, and AV are merging quickly. These are no longer separate industries.

NETGEAR recently opened its NETGEAR Academy to manufacturing partners, creating a free, industry-wide education platform rather than a single-vendor training site. Partners such as Crestron, Q-SYS, Dante by Audinate, Sennheiser, Lightware, SDVoE, AVB Academy, and Powersoft are now contributing their own certified courses alongside NETGEAR's training. We sat down with Gus Marcondes, global training manager at NETGEAR Enterprise, to ask him some pointed questions about the program.

AVN: How is this training different than what manufacturers would offer on their own?

Marcondes: What makes the NETGEAR Academy different is that we’re not just teaching our own products. We’re helping people see the whole system. Each manufacturer usually focuses on their specific solutions, which makes sense, but real projects don’t work that way. In the field, switches, endpoints, and protocols all need to coexist. That’s why we’ve opened our platform to include training content from our partners.

By bringing all these courses together, we are giving students a smooth, unified learning experience where they can understand how the entire ecosystem fits. The goal is to make networking feel less intimidating and more connected to what professionals actually do every day.

AVN: You noted that the training is geared toward Pro AV and broadcast. How is the content geared toward each audience?

Marcondes: For Pro AV professionals, our focus is to help them grow from basic networking skills to full AV-over-IP design and deployment.

We cover topics from simple VLAN configurations to multicast design, clocking, and troubleshooting. At the advanced level, students design a complete network project based on customer requirements. Each project is personally reviewed by our instructors, and every student receives individual feedback. It’s an online course, but there’s always a real human behind the screen.

For the broadcast community, the focus is on IP media standards like ST 2110 and IPMX. We help engineers understand the network layer that supports video, audio, and timing, because that’s where the future of broadcast is heading.

We also show how open standards are connecting both worlds: high-end broadcast and simpler AV distribution, into one scalable IP foundation.

And since the lines between IT, AV, and broadcast are disappearing fast, we’ve added courses on Cloud, Pro WiFi, and Cybersecurity to help everyone build the confidence to manage connected environments.

Let me start with a real world example: It’s 9:00 a.m. The board is seated, the presentation ready and then ... nothing. No signal, no sound, just a blue screen and silence. The culprit: a “normal” power strip. Anyone who thinks power is simply “on or off” hasn’t considered the physics behind it.

A conventional PDU (Power Distribution Unit) merely distributes electricity. It can’t detect voltage fluctuations, overloads or rising temperatures. The result: the “ready for hybrid collaboration ” room turns into a blackout zone. Microphones fail, displays go dark and stress levels soar. Even the best AV over IP setup can’t save the day.

An intelligent PDU, however, anticipates problems. It measures current and voltage, detects overloads, monitors temperature, protects connected devices, and alerts technicians before failures occur. It enables remote restarts or automated reboots—no more crawling under tables or emergency calls.

As AV and IT converge, smart power management isn’t a luxury but a necessity. It safeguards equipment investments and ensures smooth business operations.

What are the requirements for the best PDUs?

With over 35 years of manufacturer experience and seven years of personal AV experience as CSO, I know what separates a good PDU from a great one.

• Surge protection: Integrated type 3 surge protection devices safeguard AV systems from harmful voltage spikes. Relying only on types 1 and 2 isn’t enough.

• Easy installation: Fixed mounting ears for 19-inch racks or brackets for compact enclosures allow quick, hassle-free setup. At least, I don't know of any integrator who enjoys having to screw mounting brackets onto dozens of PDUs first.

• Intelligence: Smart PDUs go far beyond power distribution. They monitor status and control outlets remotely and measure power consumption in real time. A power meter accuracy of less than 1.5 % is important. Although I think unit-metered PDUs are sufficient for most AV setups like small conference rooms, selected PDUs provide per-outlet data for detailed insight if required.

• Quality and reliability: Built with high-inrush relays, premium components, and industry-standard power supplies, PDUs should be made to last. Integrated Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) further reduces wear by switching precisely at the AC zero crossing and extending product life and improving safety. By the way, if a PDU has a physical reset button on the front panel, I wouldn't buy it in the first place. A quality product doesn't have that.

• Application-specific design: Each PDU should match the customer’s use case, from small huddle rooms to large AV networks.

• Network security: Some “smart” PDUs still use outdated security like TLS 1.2, IPv4, or simple passwords. That’s no longer acceptable. In the age of AI and cyber threats, modern PDUs must support TLS 1.3, IPv6, and IEEE 802.1X authentication for encrypted, future-proof communication.

Off to the Races!

In February 2024, PPDS signed a deal with Oracle Red Bull Racing, announcing the three-year extension of the partnership between the two companies. And PPDS is inviting its clients to the races. "What you will see there is a completely upgraded garage where Max parks his car, which will be a full LED experience," said Martijn van der Woude, vice president of global marketing and business development at PPDS.

PPDS and van der Woude understand the importance of building relationships. "We give our customers on the race day an experience as if they are one day part of the team. I think we all know that relationships in technology, business, and any other business are important, and to celebrate those relationships, we are inviting our customers to those races on a global level. So, all the races in the world, in all regions, it's always the same out-of-this-world experience."

“We are not just creating a presentation switcher; we are building the whole solution,” Voislav said. “The SW-640L-TX-W has been great; it has been well received by our customers, but now we are bringing in two new cameras and a new camera bridge, so now you can connect to the presentation switcher (SW-640L-TX-W) and connect up to four cameras wirelessly or with a USB-C connection. Meeting rooms with a multi-camera system are really popular these days.”

But between its AI-enabled website and the free, AVIXA-certified WyreStorm Academy, one area of WyreStorm’s business model that will never change is the support it provides its customers.

“On our new support hub website, you can get all the information about how to install our devices, as well as the latest updates, firmware updates—and there is a built-in AI bot if you can’t find what you need,” Voislav said. “Your customer will be much more comfortable installing and programming your devices if you provide a good education.”

“Nine times out of 10, our projectors are mounted to a ceiling. But a classroom may be laid out one way, and an instructor may come in and want to change the layout,” Shimonishi said. “Our partnership with Artome integrates our award-winning VMZ Series projectors with Artome’s new PT-VMZ-AVCART, which includes a space for VMZ projectors—any model—to be mounted inside. The cart features built-in speakers, subwoofer, and controls—pre-programmed and pre-wired for Panasonic projectors.”

Finally, Shimonishi revealed that PPNDA is now a member of the Open AV Cloud Association, which was formed in resistance to proprietary protocols in AV.

“With the cloud and artificial intelligence, our industry needs a great standardized architecture that allows for easier interoperability of devices,” she said. “Our vision is to make all of our products—from projectors, displays, dvLED displays, and immersive environments like this—easy to install, manage, and communicate with other products over the network.”
