The GUDE Systems Expert Power Control (EPC) 8291-2 is an intelligent AC/DC power distribution unit (PDU) designed for modern AV/IT installations in various environments, from lecture halls to data centers. This compact 1RU device offers high-density power, supporting up to 21 devices through 17 DC and 4 AC active switched and metered ports, thus eliminating the need for bulky adapters.

For convenience, each unit is supplied with a stainless-steel trim plate. The unit’s lens is compatible with a single Decora-style rectangular opening, allowing easy fabrication of custom trim plates for advanced applications. While the Model 392 is a native Dante product, several methods allow control of the unit’s visual display. A high-frequency audio tone, typically 20 kHz, within the connected Dante audio channel, can be used to “trigger” the display. This allows directly compatibility with a variety of party-line (PL) intercom and general audio applications. Alternately, simple UDP network messages transported over the Ethernet connection can be used to control the lighting of the unit’s display. Additionally, the Model 392 can provide an audio level display function, lighting green, yellow, or red to indicate the real-time audio level of a connected Dante audio signal.

The Model 392 can be used in a variety of Dante-supporting applications. For example, the Model 392’s display can be “triggered” using one of the contact-closure inputs on a Studio Technologies’ Model 44D Audio Interface unit. Additionally, high-frequency tone signals generated by Studio Technologies’ Model 214 and Model 215 Announcer’s Consoles will allow the Model 392 to directly serve as a broadcast “on-air” indicator.

The Model 392 is supported by the STcontroller software application, allowing the unit’s extensive range of operating features to be quickly and intuitively configured. The Exstreamer MPA400 is the latest product in Barix’s decoder/amplifier portfolio. The What: DPA will be launching its smallest high-end pro audio microphone capsule ever—the d:screet CORE 6060, 6061 Subminiature Microphones and the d:fine CORE 6066 Subminiature Headset Microphone—at AES NY in Booth 633. Measuring in at three millimeters (0.12 inches) in diameter, the new 6000 series is 60 percent smaller than DPA's existing 4000 series.

The What Else: While the new mics may be small, DPA says they are powerful in terms of performance, as all three incorporate the company's CORE by DPA microphone amplification technology, designed to reduces distortion and increases dynamic range. The microphones with CORE by DPA have also achieved an IP58 waterproof rating, which provides water and moisture resistance.

In terms of technical specifications, all three 6000 series capsules are omnidirectional and have a frequency range of 20 Hz - 20 kHz. The d:screet 6060 lavalier has a noise floor of only 24 dB(A), while the d:screet 6061 lavalier and d:fine 6066 headset have noise floors of only 26 dB(A). This is similar to the company's existing 4000 series miniature mics.

The What: Alteros, an Audio-Technica company, has introduced a direct-to-fiber extension to its GTX 6.5 GHz Ultra Wide Band digital wireless microphone system, providing enhanced range and flexibility.

The What Else: The standard GTX system allows up to 32 GTX32 transceivers to each be connected to a 3U GTX3224 control unit with up to 1000 feet of Cat 5 cable, creating a L.A.W.N. (local area wireless microphone network) system to communicate bidirectionally with up to 24 GTX24 wireless microphone transmitters—24 microphone channels and 24 talkback channels with an additional eight group channels. With the introduction of the GTX3224F control unit version, 16 rear-panel Cat 5 transceiver ports are replaced with six fiber ports. Fiber connections measured in miles instead of feet can connect the control unit to up to six GTX-FX8 8-port fiber breakout nodes for remote Cat 5 connection to the network and power for to up to 48 GTX32 transceivers (up to 16 GTX32s can be connected directly to the GTX3224F by Cat 5 for a total capability of 64).

The result is a system that can cover extremely large venues, and multiple locations within a venue, as was proven with ESPN’s successful deployment of the Alteros Direct-to-Fiber GTX system for coverage of the 2018 US Open Tennis Championships.

The Bottom Line: The GTX3224F and GTX-8 hardware will be available November 2018.

The What: VuWall Technology has a new plugin for the Milestone XProtect unified security platform. The VuWall plugin now enables security system builders to integrate VuScape high-density decoder cards for the simultaneous decoding of all the supported sources possible on just a single video wall. The What: Mad Systems has introduced the LookingGlass Concierge, a facial recognition system.

The What Else: The LookingGlass Concierge system uses facial recognition to recognize people. It then logs each member into the group using a variety of methods including pre-entry data submitted prior to their visit, on-site using a self-service kiosk, or with assistance from a staff member. Once done, the system can keep track of where the members of that group are, retrieve pictures, and collect merchandise that members of the group purchase or win.

The system will log people and group members as they move around the venue, and always log the last place they were seen. If a person or a group member wants to find other members of the group, they can walk up to a kiosk, retrieve information of where other members of the group are, how to get there, and have an option to leave a message for them (i.e. their next stop!) using the kiosk or even a personal device.

The Bottom Line: The rationale behind the system is that the experience should be easier for visitors if they are in a venue that uses some sort of recognition system. Guests will feel safe knowing their kids cannot leave without their guardians, that people can easily find each other when separated

With a concierge system such as this in place, a lot of things that are currently a chore would be made easier for visitors, and when combined with Mad’s recognition-based media delivery, the LookingGlass system would create a unique integrated experience.

The What: RTW will showcase its 19-inch 4U rack-mount (MA4U) version of its TM9 TouchMonitor at AES 2018 (Booth 504G – Avid Pavilion).

The What Else: The Roland XS-42H allows fast, seamless connection of up to four computers and tablets over HDMI with automatic optimization and display of newly connected sources; automatic audio-follows-video switching; web browser-based control from a networked computer, tablet or phone; and simple selection of one of 10 user-configurable meeting setup scenes. Source content can be switched to feed one or two video displays via HDMI. With the XS-42H, meetings are about sharing ideas and collaboration, not about fiddling with connections, remotes, and interface settings.

The XS-42H’s auto input detection automatically switches to a newly connected device. The XS-42H uses the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) protocol to communicate with a connected device to specify the correct output resolution for the PC or tablet.

When sources are disconnected, the XS-42H can automatically return to a specified input instead of the typical black screen.

The Roland XS-42H includes stereo RCA outputs for connection to external speakers or soundbars for improved audio quality. The internal audio mixer of the XS-42H will switch the audio to match the video input, using the audio embedded in the computer’s HDMI signal. Input of auxiliary external audio sources is facilitated by a second pair of RCA phono jacks. The Color Recognition System is based on a very simple concept: school groups and clubs often arrive at visitor centers wearing uniform, printed shirts, scarves, hats, or jackets that are bright colored and easily identifiable. When a group of visitors come to the entry, a camera looks at one of the shirts or jackets, and logs that color. A staff member, or a group member then tells the system what type of content to deliver—whether that is elementary content for younger children, or a more advanced experience for high school students. Even if no common color is worn, visitor center staff could hand out colored badges on lanyards or self-adhesive tags for clothing, and the system can still pick this color out to deliver customized content. Bright yellow could be used for vision-impaired guests, and blue for hearing-impaired visitors. Elementary kids might be issued red badges; a group of physics students might use purple. A Spanish language preference could be indicated by cyan, and other non-native English speakers could wear green.

The Bottom Line: Mad Systems’ Facial Recognition and Color Recognition Solutions provide media content that is tailored to visitors, without wristbands, RFID, or other interfaces. The What: tvONE has introduced the 1T-SX-654 auto switcher with four HDMI video inputs and one HDMI output.

The switcher includes an auto-switch control mode, which automatically switches to an HDMI input as soon as a new source is connected. Additional control options include control via the front panel source button, RS-232 or IR (remote control included).

The What: Roland Professional AV today has introduced the VP-42H Video Processor, a simple-to-set-up and easy-to-use compact device that allows sophisticated multi-source layering and switching with dynamic transitions for effective and engaging single-screen display of presentations, digital signage content, and meeting visuals.

The What Else: The VP-42H supports simultaneous output of up to four layered source signals even when resolutions vary between its four HDMI inputs. The processor features Motion Scene Switching for fluid transitions between complex screen setups, remote switching via browser-based network control, audio management including de-embedding and embedding and a keyer function for overlays and advanced composition.

In venues where it’s not practical or affordable to support multiple displays that simultaneously show varying IMAG or presentation images, the VP-42H allows a single large display to serve a range of functions with multiple inset windows and eye-catching displays. The Roland VP-42H Video Processor lets end users instantly switch between “scenes” containing pre-set arrangements of layered sources in customizable inset windows. The VP-42H smoothly transitions between current and next scenes by automatically moving and resizing the windows to their new positions with motion-based scene switching for visual impact.

By accessing a networked VP-42H’s fast and convenient web browser interface, each input layer can be scaled, cropped, zoomed, and positioned by clicking and dragging on a connected computer, wireless tablet, or smart phone.

The VP-42H’s internal audio mixer allows de-embedding of HDMI audio and the input of external audio sources via a pair of RCA phono jacks. Level balanced audio can be embedded in the HDMI output stream and also can be output to external mixers or speakers via a second pair of RCA jacks. Front panel controls with associated level indications allow adjustment of external line input, line output, and master audio levels, as well as headphone output level.

It will make its debut at Microsoft Ignite 2018 event in Orlando, FL, September 24–27 at Crestron’s booth 1707.

The What: PreSonus Audio Electronics has introduced the CDL series of loudspeakers, the latest additions to the company’s line of sound reinforcement designs.

The What Else: The CDL12 Constant Directivity Loudspeaker combines point source and line array technology into a unique patent-pending design, radiating a highly focused pattern with consistent SPL throughout the frequency response range, both on- and off-axis. The companion subwoofer, the CDL18s, utilizes a ported design that maximizes efficiency to create a big bass sound from a compact cabinet. Both Dante-enabled, powered enclosures can be flown as a vertical array, or combined for ground-stacked applications to create a complete, coherent loudspeaker system with an even response across the frequency spectrum.Each CDL12 consists of eight 2-inch drivers aligned in a segmented circular-arc high-frequency array centered in front of a 12-inch woofer.
