DiGiCo has introduced its smallest and newest addition to the family, the Quantum1¹², a single-screen, 12-fader desk that is DiGiCo’s first true flypack mixer. Designed to fit within a rugged Pelican Air 1637 case, the console, when packed, weighs only 50 pounds, qualifying it as a standard checked bag option on most flights. But despite its ultra-compact form factor, the Quantum1¹² is still a giant on features and functionality.

Based on the latest seventh-generation FPGAs, DiGiCo’s newest product offers 80 input channels with 24 aux/subgroup busses, LR/LCR master busses, and a 12x8 matrix, all with full channel processing. Twelve control groups plus two solos are also available.

The new Quantum1¹² is nearly 70% lighter, but still incredibly solid, and far more powerful. We’re extremely proud with how it has turned out and suspect that our customers will be quite pleased with it, too.”

Introducing Extron's new MGP 641 xi 5K multi-window processor. It is designed for presenting up to four 5K sources on a single screen, including 5K and ultra-wide displays. Supported video signals can be up to 5120x2880 with 4:4:4 color sampling, and Extron's exclusive Vector 4K scaling engine ensures downscaled and upscaled content is presented with unequaled image quality.

CODA Audio has launched its free SPACE HUB Producer software, which empowers users with ‘immersion without complication.' Designed to build immersive sound fields using their own computer and audio hardware, the free-to-use software also forms an update for its SPACE HUB immersive sound processor, with added functionality and new features.

Identical to the software used in the SPACE HUB engine, when installed on the user’s computer SPACE HUB Producer offers 128 input channels. These can be sourced live from the user’s interfaces of choice, or from internal computer playback. It’s an object-based platform, where each input or group of inputs becomes an audio ‘object’. Objects can be placed anywhere in the three-dimensional audio space, and can be fixed or moving. Snapshots, routines, and movement can all be live or triggered by Midi or OSC, and it can be used in combination with performer tracking systems. Within the software there is also a comprehensive reverb engine and downmix facility.

For SPACE HUB Producer, output is restricted to 16 channels and the software does not have direct help and support from CODA Audio. Where ‘immersion without limitation’ is required with higher output channel counts, lowest latency, and premium interfacing, CODA’s SPACE HUB processor gives the full, professional solution with up to 128 x 128 channels.

The d&b Soundscape ecosystem is expanding with the introduction of new scalable I/O sizes for the DS100 and DS100M signal engine. Users can now tailor their Soundscape system to better suit their specific needs, whether for small installations, mobile productions, or large-scale immersive events.

With the introduction of scalable I/Os, the DS100 firmware has been updated to offer three license sizes, allowing customers to select their preferred I/O count. This expansion provides a more flexible and cost-effective entry point for d&b Soundscape projects, while also enabling larger productions to benefit from increased channel capacity. Existing DS100 and DS100M users will receive a free firmware upgrade, increasing their maximum I/O processing from 64x64 to 128x64. The Model 207A supports a player’s complete audio and intercom needs by means of a compact, PoE-powered unit. The range of supported features can help make eSports events more compelling, allowing production personnel, team coaches, and fans to hear what the players are hearing, including their discussions during game play. To facilitate audio masking needs, the Model 207A adds a second two-channel (stereo) headphone output. Located on the unit’s back panel, the new headphone output utilizes a three-conductor 3.5mm TRS jack, which allows wired earbuds to be directly connected. The Studio Technologies’ STcontroller software application has also been revised to make the audio source selection associated with the headset output be more flexible as well as adding support for the new headphone output. These updates are especially beneficial for eSports applications where a player needs to receive both game and masking audio.

Headsets, often with large, over-ear headphone earpads, are often sent “white” noise for masking. The Model 207A incorporates an internal source of masking audio as well as allowing an external source to be utilized. The internal source of masking audio can help minimize the chance that esports players will hear live audio that’s present in a game venue. The Model 207A’s new headphone output, containing the player’s desired audio source material, would be connected to earbuds. These earbuds would be placed in the player’s ear, under the headphone earpads associated with the headset.

“Both the Model 207A and the original Model 207 provide a set of LED indicators that can project out the bottom of the units’ enclosure,” said Gordon Kapes, president of Studio Technologies. “The primary purpose of these LEDs is to add ‘pizzazz,’ visual excitement to an otherwise mundane piece of hardware. The original Model 207 used LEDs that were blue in color. The Model 207A has LEDs that can light in either blue or red. An updated version of the STcontroller application includes the ability to configure the color of the LEDs, allowing sets of Model 207A units to be more easily identified. As an example, deploying a “blue team” and a “red team” can be easily implemented, as well has having a group of units identified by having their LEDs completely disabled.”

While the Model 207 was designed for professional applications, the revised Model 207A offers small but significant improvements in several areas, including a lower noise floor and increased flexibility.

Sound Devices’ 8-Series—including the 833, 888, and Scorpio models—is getting a new firmware update, v10.01, that includes a wealth of new features—all at no cost to customers.

Sound Devices takes in feature requests from its customers, and 8-Series v10.01 firmware includes requests that have come in from users over time. One of those is 32-bit float recording. The firmware introduces the ability to record ISO tracks in 32-bit floating point, eliminating clipping in the file, no matter the gain setting. “This has been a popular request, because it is useful when recording audio sources that have unpredictable levels and a wide dynamic range—like dialogue on set suddenly changing from a whisper to a scream,” said Sound Devices director of product management and design Paul Isaacs.

[Network-Enabled Efficiencies for Command and Control]

The new Daylight Mode includes a brighter LCD color scheme, making it easier to see important information and navigate menus, even in direct sunlight. With the v10.01 upgrade, Record folders can quickly be renamed without the need for a computer, directly from the 8-Series Record Folder Options menu. Users can choose whether playback audio goes to all outputs or just headphones, while leaving live audio to pass through to other outputs. This is beneficial for production crews, who can continue hearing live audio without interruption while the sound mixer can check playback of takes.

With the 8-Series v10.01 upgrade, the SD-Remote—a companion app to 8-Series mixer-recorders—now has a new Routing Matrix tab with an overview of all input, channel, bus, and output routing on a single screen, making it much easier to view and control where audio signals are coming from and where they’re going to. With so many inputs, channel, bus, and output routing permutations, this provides an indispensable tool for production sound mixers.

Brompton Technology came to Las Vegas with broadcasting in mind, unveiling LED video processing technologies and its Panel Manufacturer Partner Program at NAB Show 2024. 

“We have a position in broadcast applications, and that’s the real focus for us at NAB Show this year,” Brompton CEO Richard Mead said at a Monday press conference. “At our booth, we are demonstrating on-camera workflow using our framing-mapping technology as well as our custom markers feature.”

But it was the new “Gen 3 range,” built on the latest Agilex 7 FPGA technology from Intel, that captured the attention of attendees. Mead introduced the first product in the Gen 3 range, the 8K Tessera SQ200 processor. Built off the SX40, the SQ200 (200 is the output bandwidth, making it 20 times more powerful than its predecessor) delivers the same core features and is backwards-compatible with existing Brompton-powered LED panels, but now supports 8K and 4x4K workflows with native support for AV-over-IP protocols such as SMPTE ST2110 and IPMX. The SQ200 is just the first of several planned products in the Gen 3 range.

“We’re very excited about our new Gen 3 processing,” Mead said, “but processing is not much use without high-quality panels to use it with. These video wall displays have passed Extron’s extensive testing program and are now identified as “Quantum Ultra Certified".

The new units enhance reliability and support configurations of all features using the STcontroller software application. In addition, the VenueView real-time monitoring features of STcontroller are also supported.

The Model 214A, 215A, and 216A Announcer’s Consoles are suitable for numerous applications including on-air television sports broadcasting, stadium announcement, and corporate AV. All three consoles are compatible with broadcast and audio system environments that utilize Dante audio-over-Ethernet technology. An Ethernet connection with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is all that’s required to make a Model 214A, 215A, or 216A part of a sophisticated, networked audio system. Add a microphone and pair of headphones (or a broadcast headset) and the installation is complete. Whether it’s the on-air audio, the talkback audio, or the headphone cue feed, superior audio quality is always maintained.

The Model 214A’s two pushbutton switches, Model 215A’s three pushbutton switches, and Model 216A’s four pushbutton switches allow the user to control the main and talkback audio output channels. On all models, one pushbutton switch controls the status of the Dante main transmitter (output) channel. This is the audio channel intended for on-air, announcement, or other primary uses. The Model 214A, 215A, and 216A’s pushbutton switches utilize gold-plated contacts for reliable long-term operation and include backlighting using white LEDs. Three rotary controls allow the user to adjust the content and level of the two-channel headphone output. The Model 216A can also serve as a four-channel IFB (interrupted foldback or talent cueing) main station for remote production (REMI) applications. That unit will integrate all on-air, talkback, and cue audio signal routing in one compact package.

DiGiCo's October acquisition of Fourier Audio led to the launch of  launch its inaugural product, the transform.engine. Now, the two have upped the ante with a new Fourier Interface Card, with DiGiCo releasing a software update as well.

The new module—that will soon be retrofittable on all Quantum consoles as well as on the majority of the manufacturer’s SD-Range desks—delivers 64 channels of bidirectional audio at both 48k and 96k connections to the Fourier Audio transform.engine, which is a 2U outboard Dante-connected server designed to run VST3 software plugins in the live environment. DiGiCo Announces Pulse Software Updates for Quantum Consoles

DiGiCo will soon be offering second-generation software updates for its popular Quantum338, Quantum338T, and Quantum225 mixing consoles. Available in April, the Mk 2 software packages, known as Pulse, will increase the input channel and buss counts of each desk model, plus add other notable features.

On the Quantum338 and Quantum338T, the new upgrade will increase the number of input channels to 156 (from 128), busses to 72 (from 64), Mustard Processors to 48 (from 36), and Nodal Processors to 72 (from 64). Other perks include the addition of Mix Minus functionality, plus a larger 36x36 Matrix on the “T” theater-software model of the console (up from 24x24). 

Similarly, Pulse will bump up the Quantum225’s power and versatility, raising its input channel count to 96 (from 72), buss count to 48 (from 36), and Mustard and Nodal Processor tallies to 36 and 48, respectively (from 24 and 32). Mix Minus is also included in the new feature set.

Aurora is introducing the new DTX series of audio products.  At the core of the product line is the DTX Dante audio DSPs, with a variety of analog and digital inputs and outputs suited for systems of any size.

Dante is part of the entire DTX DSP series with models ranging from 4 x 4 to 64 x 64 channels digital audio.  Additionally, the 4 x 4, 8 x 8 and 16 x 16 models include analog input and output channels for integration with traditional inputs and speakers. 

At the heart of the system is the Dash software.  Dash serves as the all-in-one control and configuration tool for DXT DSP hardware. Systems can be designed to perfectly match specifications and conform as requirements change or evolve. All classes of audio processing modules for signal routing and shaping are provided.

Dash provides a new way of thinking about DSP software. This is a software designed by audio professionals for audio professionals. It uses an interface layout that will be very intuitive to even the most novice integrator yet extremely powerful in its capabilities.

Last summer, AtlasIED launched Atmosphere, a digital audio platform comprising an entirely new suite of products and technologies. Under development for two years according to the company, the platform features a combination of digital audio processors, amplifiers, graphical user interfaces, programming software, and controls, and is engineered to enable the utilization of touchless control, automation, and artificial intelligence. The components were designed to work together to minimize training time and installation, configuration, and programming for AV integrators, and to reduce the learning curve for end users. So just how well does it all work?

Setting it Up

I evaluated the Atmosphere platform utilizing the digital audio processor, multi-channel amplifier, and several of the accessories. In terms of design, it is refreshing to see a simplified product offering that meets 90 percent of the multi-zone use cases with only a few models and accessories. The flexibility and features offered at a reasonable price point make the Atmosphere lineup appealing to systems designers. The installation is also simplified for quick turnaround on a jobsite.

At the heart of the system is the digital audio processor. Available in four- or eight-zone configurations, each includes all the necessary features and functions of a modern DSP. The web interface makes setup and system audio equalization a breeze. Preloaded EQ presets for AtlasIED speakers are quick to set up and sound good. The control interface allows for a user-friendly experience. One of the best features of this particular DSP is the ambient noise compensation, which is impressive with its ability to adapt based on a changing environment. 

The amplifiers are available in both 400 and 800 watts and have an expandable Dante receiver card that will offer more than the four analog line inputs. The available power allows for versatile configurations of speakers in almost any type of environment.

There are a wide variety of accessories including inputs, control, and monitoring wall plates. These were all easy to set up and allowed for high-quality microphone inputs, accessory RCA input, or even Bluetooth. The Bluetooth had an impressive signal range, although as expected, it worked better on the latest generation iPhone versus an older iPad in our facility. This is based more on the generation of Bluetooth hardware in those specific devices. The ability of operators to quickly control volume and zones on the intuitive wall plate is both user friendly and simple to install.

I like that the DSP features an automated message player that is built in with scheduling ability; however, I did not test this feature. It does add more to this platform, setting it ahead of the competition.

Impressions

My favorite feature is the simple and personal control offered. The ability to control sources, messages, scenes, and more with any smartphone application (iPhone in my specific case) is quick and intuitive. The ability to add user-defined access takes it one step further.

I like the tagline used on the Atmosphere website: “Simple doesn’t have to be basic.” This is a true statement. I found the entire platform to be easy to use, install, and control, while offering a full-featured product line. An interoperable and wholistic system sets the entire Atmosphere platform and product offerings ahead of the competition. 

Overall, the platform sets a new standard for digital audio with multi-zone processors, amplifiers, and a variety of accessories. Touchless control, easy-to-program automation, and artificial intelligence offer integrators and users an effortless way to create the perfect Atmosphere for their business. It will be a great tool in any fully featured system design.

The Bottom Line: Each unit is compact enough to be installed anywhere and includes mounting hardware ideal for installation on a wall or behind a display. TesiraFORTÉ X Series supports both Dante and AVB out of the box, making integration with other AV components simple and flexible. There are three models in the TesiraFORTÉ X Series—the X 400, X 800, and X 1600—with four, eight, and 16 channels of AEC (acoustic echo cancellation), respectively, enough for up to 16 Biamp Parlé Beamtracking microphones.

The What: Waves Audio is now shipping the DSPRO StageGrid 1000, a Waves SoundGrid-compatible stagebox. DSPRO, located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a developer and manufacturer of innovative and high-performance products for the professional audio market, including PA, broadcast, mobile units, and installation.  

The What Else: The DSPRO StageGrid 1000 is a compact I/O device for Waves’ eMotion LV1 live mixing systems, with eight mic/line ins, four analog out and AES/EBU ins/outs, all digitally controlled. Use this versatile unit close to your mixing console to add more inputs and outputs at FOH or monitors, or on stage in order to add more inputs and outputs for stage performers.

With eight digitally controlled mic/line ins, four balanced analog outputs, and an AES/EBU stereo I/O, this 1U rack unit offers a balance between size and functionality, delivering no-compromise sound quality and reliability.  

The Bottom Line: This rugged and road-ready StageGrid 1000 unit is powered by the same audio interface as the larger DSPRO StageGrid 4000, making the DSPRO StageGrid family well suited for the most demanding live mixing environments. StageGrid 1000 is fully compatible with Waves’ SoundGrid ecosystem. It interfaces with SoundGrid hosts and network components to make up a modular, scalable audio distribution infrastructure, which can process multichannel audio at ultra-low latency using Waves’ plugins.  

The What: QSC has announced the addition of two smaller-sized AV and control processors to the Q-SYS Ecosystem: Q-SYS Core 8 Flex and Q-SYS Core Nano. 

The What Else: Driven by the proliferation of networked endpoints and the expanding processing needs of a wider variety of spaces and topologies, the Core 8 Flex includes onboard analog audio I/O and GPIO plus network I/O while the Q-SYS Core Nano offers network-only audio I/O processing and control. Built on the same flexible and scalable software foundation as the rest of the Q-SYS processor portfolio, including the best-in-class Q-SYS Core 110f, these new Cores expand design options to meet a wider variety of installations.

The Q-SYS Core 8 Flex includes a 64x64 networked I/O channel capacity with eight onboard FLEX audio channels and eight GPIOs to integrate analog audio and control devices into the Q-SYS Ecosystem. Q-SYS Core Nano offers the same 64x64 networked audio I/O without the onboard analog I/O to support installations with smaller spaces with centralized processing and fully networked endpoints. Both of these new Q-SYS Core processors occupy a smaller half-width, 1RU footprint and include pre-installed 8x8 Software-based Dante audio channels (license upgradeable up to 32x32 channels), driverless USB audio, and AV bridging capabilities.

The Bottom Line: These smaller Core processors utilize the same software-based architecture, control engine, and design software suite (Q-SYS Designer Software) as the rest of the Q-SYS Core processing portfolio. They both offer scalable DSP processing, video routing and bridging for web conferencing, as well as third-party endpoint integration without the need for separate dedicated control processors. 

The What: Ashly Audio has begun shipping its latest integrated mixer amp solution, the mXa-1502. The mXa-1502 brings four zones of mixing and DSP, two 150-watt amplifiers, and programmable mic preamps, all in a single, compact, rack-mountable unit.

The What Else: Combined with Ashly’s new AquaControl™ software, the mXa-1502 allows integrators to install faster, add professional audio to more locations, troubleshoot remotely, and develop effective, long-term partnerships with their customers.

This is also the first product from Ashly that integrates its new AquaControl software, which provides a complement of digital signal processing, including routing, auto-mixing, ducking, amplifier monitoring, event scheduling and triggering.

The mixer amp also features a built-in web server, which offers a web-based control platform. If an end user requires assistance, an integrator can first login to the controls online before rolling a truck out to the site.

“The reception we’ve received since introducing the ground-breaking mXa-1502 has been incredible,” said Noel Larson, VP of marketing and business development at Ashly Audio. “Since the unveiling we’ve been working tirelessly to this moment, where we could announce the mXa-1502 is ready to be shipped to all.”

The Bottom Line: With an estimated street price point of $1,799, the mXa-1502 is well suited for small- and medium-sized business sectors of retail, hospitality, and house of worship.

The What: Extron has introduced the XMP 240 Expansion Matrix Processor, featuring a mix matrix with 24 channels of AEC and 48x48 Dante connectivity in a half-rack space chassis.

The What Else: The XMP 240 can be used standalone for matrix processing in an all-network audio system. When connected to a DMP Plus Series processor via Dante or the EXP expansion port, a complete system is created that offers up to 36 channels of AEC, a USB audio interface, analog connectivity, and optional VoIP. A system expanded with an XMP 240 is capable of supporting multiple beam forming microphone arrays alongside numerous other Dante sources, with enough outputs to support multiple zones and destination devices. For network audio systems based on Dante or AES67, the XMP 240 allows for high-channel-count audio input and output processing.

"The ability to add 24 channels of AEC via a Dante network to a DMP based system gives our customers powerful flexibility and scalability for larger systems,” said Casey Hall, vice president of sales and marketing at Extron. "This much processing power is unprecedented in a half-rack device that can be placed under a table or virtually anywhere requirements dictate."

The Bottom Line: With connectivity for up to 48 sources and 48 destinations via Dante or AES67, the XMP 240 is well suited for applications that utilize many network audio devices. Dante Domain Manager support provides user authentication, role-based security, and seamless expansion of Dante systems over any network infrastructure.

The What: CORIOview, a fast, intuitive, 4K multi-window processor with up to eight sources by tvONE, can now be used in two modes. Users can choose from a classic multi-viewer look and feel or the highly-optimized Dynamic mode when collaboration and ease of use really matters in huddle rooms, meeting spaces, and control rooms.

The What Else:  With the new Dynamic mode, users can connect, collaborate, and present like never before, according to the company. Connecting a source to CORIOview will automatically add users to a shared visual multi-window display, and the push of a button will take the user to full screen to present with maximum impact. For ease of navigation, on-screen labels provide users with source information and audio status. If users need to pause their visual collaboration, output video and audio can be muted or unmuted as desired.

The Bottom Line: tvONE is now shipping a new Dynamic mode to its 4K multi-window processor, CORIOview.

The What: Datapath, a leading manufacturer of video management solutions, announces the latest addition to their award-winning x-Series range of video processors–the new flagship Fx4-HDR. The Fx4-HDR brings all the familiarity of the ever-popular x-Series products, but with features and power that make it the ideal fit for today’s ultra-high-quality video requirements.

Building on the success of its Fx4 and x4 predecessors, the Datapath Fx4-HDR brings superb HDR 10-bit colour clarity, 4K60 resolution as well as audio support into the mix. Supporting a choice of HDMI 2.0 and two additional 1.4 inputs, the Fx4-HDR is fully HDCP2.2 capable and supports a high bandwidth loop-through for daisy-chaining multiple devices and creating large video walls.

The What Else:  The advancements bring an added dimension to creative digital signage, as Mark Rogers, product manager for Datapath, explains: “Digital display solutions that stand out from the crowd need a suitable creative display controller capable of stand-out performance. We are immensely proud of the success of our Fx4 processor and, with the arrival of the Fx4-HDR, we have a video processor that is perfectly suited for the latest ultra-high resolution, high dynamic range solutions. Similarly to its predecessor, we expect the Fx4-HDR to become the go-to choice for creative digital signage and display applications.”

Suitable for the most creative of displays, the Fx4-HDR can take its input from any region of the input canvas with all of the required cropping, scaling, rotation and frame-rate conversion handled by the Fx4-HDR hardware. These regions can overlap to allow any output to replicate another or can be configured to support any creative splice of the source material.

The Bottom Line: This solution supports many nonrectangular screen arrangements, as well as any mix of monitor orientations, allowing users to create an almost unlimited multi-monitor canvas. Further, downscaling support on each output allows each selected content region to be output and contained within an arbitrary area of the screen, filling the rest of the screen with a flat colour of user choice. This can be used to correct content aspect ratio when displaying content on non-standard screen arrangements, or to drive multiple LED controllers with exactly the correct pixels for each section of a connected LED fixture.

The Fx4-HDR will be on display at Datapath’s ISE 2020 booth in Amsterdam – Hall 10 P182. 

The What: RGB Spectrum has introduced the QuadView UHDx KVM, which combines a high performance 4K60 multi-image video processor with remote keyboard/mouse control. The unit displays and controls up to four computer screens at a time on a single 4Kp60 monitor.

The What Else: QuadView UHDx KVM 's KlickSimple navigation is designed to simplify operator interaction by providing seamless switching of control. An operator simply drags the mouse to a window to take control of the computer displayed. This integrated keyboard and mouse control reduces desktop clutter and enables quicker operator response. For example, if a door alarm is triggered an operator can select the access control computer by moving the mouse to that computer’s display window. 

QuadView UHDx KVM displays up to four sources simultaneously on a single screenat up to 4Kp60 resolution with seamless control using a single keyboard/mouse. The QuadView UHDx KVM provides up to full 3840x2160p60 4K input and output. There are six input ports: four HDMI 2.0 and two DisplayPort 1.2, four of which can be displayed simultaneously. You can mix and match input resolutions, scale any video input up to full screen, and route any input to any window. The processor provides analog and digital audio and lets you select and route audio from any source. 

Control options include the front panel, a built-in web interface, and third-party control via Telnet and RS-232. The front panel and web interface enable audio and video input and layout selection. Simply select a pre-set or customizable layout, select inputs, and route inputs to the desired display windows.

The Bottom Line: QuadView UHDx KVM is engineered for versatility in a host of use cases including control rooms, command centers, process control stations, security operation centers, medical monitoring stations, and industrial control systems.   

The What: Biamp's TesiraFORTÉ is now Certified for Microsoft Teams, delivering Biamp's professional audio quality to Microsoft Teams Rooms in medium and large conferencing spaces. 

The What Else: Tesira DSPs use Biamp's advanced Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) technology to eliminate common sources of echo during videoconferencing in medium-to-large collaboration spaces. Tesira also supports bidirectional mute synchronization to share mute or unmute commands with Microsoft Teams Rooms. This means the microphones accurately display mute status (red or green) and pass mute commands to the overall system with the push of a button.

The Bottom Line: The Biamp products certified for use with Microsoft Teams Rooms include the TesiraFORTÉ AVB VT4 conferencing solution and the Tesira EX-UBT expander when paired with Sennheiser TCC2 microphones. Additional solutions are currently in process to be certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms.

The What: TASCAM has unveiled the new SERIES 8p Dyna 8-channel mic preamplifier with analog compressor, the company’s first standalone mic preamp and A-D expansion device. 

The What Else: TASCAM has long been known for its ultra-low-noise preamps, and eight TASCAM HDIA (High Definition Instrumentation Architecture) preamps are its best yet. They feature noise level (EIN) of -127dBu, THD of 0.0007 percent, dynamic range of 116dB, and crosstalk of 119dB. Each SERIES 8p Dyna channel also features a single-control analog compressor with true bypass for handling hot input signals and creating smooth audio input. True bypass is available per input.

With two instrument/microphone combo inputs on the front panel, users can quickly plug in mics, instruments, and more. Six balanced mic/line inputs grace the rear. Every microphone input has individually switched +48V phantom power for use with condenser mics.

Dual S/MUX optical outputs on the rear of the SERIES 8p Dyna enable use of the unit as a front-end expander for S/MUX or ADAT-equipped audio interfaces, such as TASCAM’s SERIES 102i and 208i, and US-20X20. Using the two S/MUX outputs simultaneously, users can send all eight SERIES 8p Dyna channels at up to 96kHz (four channels at 176.4 or 192kHz).

For additional versatility, the SERIES 8p Dyna’s eight line-level analog channel outputs are provided on both 1/4-inch balanced TRS connectors and a balanced 25-pin D-Sub connector, so users can route signals to interfaces, recording mixers, front-of-house consoles, and more.

Word clock in and out BNC connectors with an In/Out/Thru switch enable proper synchronization of digital signals. Front-panel analog overload indicators, compression indicators, and digital peak and level meter bars enable monitoring the unit’s performance. Connect its D-Sub output to a TASCAM ML-16D or ML-32D Analog Dante converter, and it becomes a front-end for an audio-over-IP network.

The Bottom Line: Featuring versatile connectivity and redesigned microphone preamp circuitry, the TASCAM SERIES 8p Dyna is designed for both studio and stage use. Housed in a rugged 1U rack-mount casing, its dual S/MUX optical ports make it well suited as an expansion unit for a TASCAM SERIES 102i or 208i, US-20X20, or other S/MUX-equipped audio interfaces including ADAT, or it can be used as a standalone front end.

The What: ClearOne announced its new CONVERGE Pro 2 VT series that includes both VoIP and Telco interfaces in the same CONVERGE Pro 2 unit, simplifying designs and purchasing for integrators, increasing installation flexibility and offering freedom of choice.

The What Else: The new CONVERGE Pro 2 VT series models function the same as the existing V and T offerings, and models featuring Dante digital audio technology will now fall under the VTD series. Additionally, all models are Avaya, Cisco and ShoreTel compliant, and support Microsoft Skype for Business built-in client.

The new VT series works with all existing CONVERGE Pro 2 units and all existing peripheral products, including the ClearOne Beamforming Microphone Array 2, USB Expander, GPIO Expander and DIALOG 20 Wireless Microphones. The new product names under the VT series are CONVERGE Pro 2 128VT, the CONVERGE Pro 2 128VTD, CONVERGE Pro 2 48VT and CONVERGE Pro 2 48VTD.

The Bottom Line: All CONVERGE Pro 2 mixers feature advanced audio DSP algorithms, including acoustic echo cancellation, noise cancellation, feedback elimination, gain and level control, and microphone gating. The new Converge Pro 2 VT models will begin shipping in Q3 2018.

The What: Radial Engineering has begun shipping Presenter, a compact mixer that combines a microphone preamp and a USB program input for presentations, from school lectures to corporate audio.

The What Else: The USB input on the Presenter allows for direct connection to a laptop for high-quality audio playback, for presentations that include digital audio files, or for DJ applications. This connection also provides power for the Presenter, eliminating the need to carry around a separate power adaptor. For connection to mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, a 3.5mm stereo input jack is included on the front of the unit, and can be adjusted using the program level control. The XLR microphone input is paired with low and high EQ controls to tailor the frequency response, along with a low-cut filter that rolls off excessive low end.

Both the microphone and the playback signals are mixed to stereo XLR balanced outputs, which can be connected directly to a PA system or a pair of powered speakers. A mono switch is provided if only one speaker is needed, and a ground lift ensures that the output signal is clean and free of buzz or hum from ground loops.

The Bottom Line: The Presenter's compact size allows it to fit on a desktop or podium, and it includes a port for a Kensington lock to secure it for permanent installations. As an added benefit, the Presenter can also be used as a USB recording interface, so speeches or lectures can be recorded for later use.

The What: Bose Professional is now shipping the latest additions to its ToneMatch audio engine series: the eight-channel T8S ToneMatch mixer and the four-channel T4S ToneMatch mixer.

The What Else: The eight-channel T8S ToneMatch mixer is designed to be intuitive to operate, with illuminated, stage-friendly tactile controls, an easy-to-read display, and scene recall. ToneMatch processing presets with a DSP engine (including studio-quality effects and Bose zEQ equalization, which redefines low, mid and high ranges for each ToneMatch preset). When used with Bose L1 and F1 systems, the T8S provides full end-to-end tonal optimization.

The four-channel T4S offers most of the same features as the T8S, but also includes dual ToneMatch links—designed to send digital audio to L1 Model 1S/II systems while receiving power on the same provided ToneMatch cable (note: when not used with an L1 system, the T4S can also be optionally powered by an accessory ToneMatch power supply). The final difference between the mixers is the inclusion of an output meter on the T8S (not included on the T4S).

“The T4S and T8S are designed to make performing easier for musicians and DJs,” said Craig Jackson, category line manager for Bose Professional. “Modern digital mixers can often be difficult to use. We focused on making our new mixers sound great and offer seamless live control. They feature powerful audio processing and a simple user interface that allows our customers to get up and running quickly so they can focus on their music.”

The Bottom Line: Both models feature rugged enclosures with a protective, magnetically coupled cover to protect controls and connectors. A chassis-bottom insert allows the use of standard mounting accessories to keep the mixers in reach during performances. The T8S and T4S are now available with U.S. MSRPs of $899 and $599, respectively.

Following on the heels of last year’s announcement that Skype for Business is now available on its COLLABORATE Pro product line, ClearOne (NASDAQ:CLRO) introduced a system upgrade that allows the CONVERGE Pro 2 48V, 128V and 128VD DSP Mixers to support built-in Skype for Business client for installed audio conferencing applications. The announcement was made at ISE 2018 in Amsterdam in Stand #1-N120.

“CONVERGE Pro 2’s support of the built-in Skype for Business client provides our customers with access to even more options for their professional audio conferencing needs,” said ClearOne Senior director of product line management, pro voice & AV distribution Durai Ramachandiran. “All CONVERGE Pro 2 units outperform in any sized room, any audio environment, and any application, and the new system upgrade introduced today integrates this advanced system with all the unique benefits that Skype for Business client has to offer.”

Skype for Business in CONVERGE Pro 2 VoIP units is available through a free upgrade for the software and firmware, and doesn’t require any changes to the hardware. It works with both cloud and on-premise Skype for Business Servers, and is compatible with all other Skype for Business clients. Skype for Business allows for point-to-point audio conferencing, multi-party audio conferencing, and access to a complete call history. Additionally, there are new and separate CONVERGE Pro 2 Dialer applications for Skype for Business that are available on Android and the Touch-Panel Controller. The Integrator can choose to configure the CONVERGE Pro 2 units for regular SIP based VoIP conferencing or Skype for Business conferencing.

Barix will evolve its innovation in SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-based paging and intercom solutions at ISE 2018 (February 6-9, Amsterdam RAI, Stand 8-K255) with its new SIP Zone Paging firmware – the latest cost-effective paging and public announcement solution. To be debuted at ISE, Barix’s latest solution for SIP architectures more fully integrates audio and paging capabilities with IP-based telephone systems in a seamless, firmware-based approach.

The new Barix SIP Zone Paging firmware runs on existing Barix hardware, including Exstreamer decoders and Annuncicom two-way audio devices, and enables systems integrators to implement a zone-supportable paging solution without the need to designate a SIP client for each individual paging point. Page routing and communication is instead accomplished natively in the Barix SIP paging gateway.Configuration for this capability is required only once within the client port gateway firmware.

“This is a hybrid IP paging and complete SIP solution,” said Reto Bader, vice president of sales and marketing, Barix. “The SIP Zone Paging firmware removes the constraints of configuring zone paging in a SIP environment, lessening some of the installation ‘divide’ that exists between paging and audio systems. Now, it’s a simple process to register a new gateway, provide seamless integration to the SIP firmware and enable specific zones for operation. It’s robust, easier to configure, and saves on individual licensing fees.”

As an example, a person will use the SIP phone and dial the gateway number, selecting the zones which are designated to carry the message to multiple loudspeakers at once. The SIP phones can dial into the paging system without a dedicated paging microphone station.

The new SIP Zone Paging firmware represents Barix’s latest approach to SIP and Paging integration. It is an alternative to Barix’s SIP Client Firmware, also to be demonstrated at ISE, which allows systems integrators to equip loudspeakers and amplifiers with a SIP address to receive calls.

The What: Designed to work seamlessly with the PreSonus StudioLive Series III family of mixers, yet compatible with other AVB-enabled systems, the PreSonus EarMix 16M 16x2 AVB-networked personal monitor mixer provides an expandable, networked monitoring solution for stage, installed sound systems, and studio recording. Part of PreSonus’ fast-growing ecosystem of AVB-networked products, each EarMix 16M accepts 16 mono channels of input via AVB networking—and you can network multiple units with a StudioLive Series III mixer.

The What Else: EarMix 16M features a loud, clear headphone amplifier that can drive low-impedance devices such as professional-caliber in-ear-monitors. Channel grouping and stereo channel linking let you create custom mixes for each musician, and you can apply limiting and three-band EQ with sweepable midrange frequency to each channel, as well as to the main mix. Once you’ve perfected a set of monitor mixes, save the whole scene to internal memory; you can store and recall up to 16 mix scenes locally.

The PreSonus Bonus: The EarMix 16M can be powered with its included external power supply but in many cases—such as when it’s difficult to provide power across multiple onstage locations—it’s better to use Power over Ethernet (PoE), which enables network cables to carry electrical power to compatible devices.

Extra Features: A pair of AVB jacks enable you to chain multiple EarMix 16Ms while also connecting to a StudioLive Series III mixer. You can expand even further by chaining EarMix 16Ms from multiple PreSonus SW5E AVB switches. The What: Audio-Technica is now shipping its six-channel ATDM-0604 Digital SmartMixer.

The What Else: Audio-Technica’s SmartMixer technology allows channels to be mixed automatically in gate or gain sharing mode, ensuring consistent, high-quality audio output from all inputs in a setup, without the introduction of feedback, excessive ambient noise, or comb filtering. Controls and LED indicators on the mixer’s front panel allow users to adjust input and output and gain levels; set and recall presets; turn on/off phantom power, low-cut filter, automatic mixing, and acoustic echo cancellation (AEC); change IP configuration (Auto or Static); and more.

A full complement of digital signal processing is available for inputs and outputs including parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, and feedback control. Control and monitoring tools are accessible locally on the front panel or via the web remote interface, which allows users to handle the aforementioned adjustments from a Windows-based PC, Mac, iOS, or Android device, plus make additional changes to the input and output settings, select gate or gain sharing mode when using Smart Mix, and adjust other advanced settings.

The mixer is equipped with four balanced microphone inputs, two balanced mic/line inputs, and one unbalanced stereo input, along with two balanced and two unbalanced outputs. Network (Cat-5e or better) and USB ports are also included, as are A/B Audio-Technica Link ports that let users connect six ATDM-0604 mixers via Cat-5e cable for simultaneous use within an expanded setup.

The What: Allen & Heath has introduced the ME-500 Personal Mixer, an accessible personal monitoring solution for houses of worship, rental companies, and performing artists.

The What Else: ME-500 features include a dimmable display, 16 backlit select keys, mute and solo buttons, a master level with limiter and EQ, plus a single rotary encoder for all main navigation and control. Each ME-500 can store and recall eight user presets for different mixes, users, and shows, and save them to a USB thumb drive. Outputs include a minijack and 1/4-inch headphone jack and a TRS mono out for wedge monitors.

Any number of ME-500 and ME-1 personal mixers can be added to a system. Secure EtherCon connectors allow ME-500s to be daisy-chained, or deployed in a star topology using the ME-U or an off-the-shelf PoE switch.

That’s exactly what we achieved with the ME-500.”

The What: PreSonus has introduced the 22-channel StudioLive AR22 USB hybrid mixers, the newest member of the company’s StudioLive AR series. Lightweight, versatile, and feature-rich, StudioLive AR-series feature analog connections and digital tools for live performance and studio use.

The What Else: StudioLive AR22 USB mixer is equipped with a Mac- and Windows-compatible, 24-bit, 96kHz, USB 2.0 audio interface that can capture all input channels and the main mix. The StudioLive AR22 USB mixer comes equipped with an onboard stereo SD recorder that allows recording of the main mix without a computer—just hit “record” and go. Users can also use the SD recorder to play up to 32GB of MP3 and WAV files for hours of program music or backing tracks without a computer.

The StudioLive AR22 USB provides a flexible array of inputs and outputs. Featuring 16 Class A mic preamps and 26 analog line inputs, the StudioLive AR22 USB has many typical features of an analog console. In addition to a 60mm fader, each of the 12 mono channels and four stereo channels features a low-cut filter, mute, pan, and solo with prefader listen. Phantom power can be enabled globally for use with condenser microphones.

All mono channels feature three-band, semi-parametric EQ with a sweepable mid band. Four channel inserts (on channels 1-4) enable the addition of external processors. Each of the four stereo channels provides a single mic input, plus balanced 1/4-inch left and right line inputs and a basic three-band, semi-parametric EQ. The StudioLive AR22 USB mixer also features the PreSonus Super Channel, which enables playback of four stereo sources simultaneously, including connection via Bluetooth 4.1.

The What: Ashly has released firmware and control app updates for its digiMIX24 24-channel digital mixer.

The What Else: Ashly digiMIX24’s latest firmware update (v4.3) includes two significant improvements in functionality: AutoMix and Crossfade Mode. AutoMix gain sharing allows for applications where multiple microphones are active and used simultaneously. Crossfade Mode is a solution for engineers who require a live transition/crossfade operation between two selectable sources (mono or stereo mixer channels).

Other notable improvements include improvements to Intelligent Meter Bridge. In addition to showing all fader positions, it now also shows Mute Status per channel. The Stereo Channel Link function has been greatly enhanced, providing more flexibility in routing and independent panning.

In addition, Ashly digiMIX control app has been updated to version 4.3 to support all new features and is available for download at the iTunes app store.

The What: RCF (booth 6953) has launched the MZ8060, an 8x6 digital audio matrix mixer built on the foundation of the company’s RDNet DSP platform. It will be on display at InfoComm 2017.

The What Else: The MZ8060 features eight universal mic/line inputs with 48V phantom power, and six balanced outputs along with 10 programmable logic inputs and six programmable logic outputs. It features 40-bit floating point processing DSP and 48kHz, 24-bit analog/digital conversion, with a dynamic range of >112dB.

It also features configurable parametric EQs, gates, compressors, limiters, delays, priority levels, automatic gain control, levels, gains on in-out and cross points, and auto-mixer operation. With its Room Combiner functionality, each unit can work as a dual-room combiner with independent auto-mixer facility for each room.

The MZ8060 has configurable ALC (Automatic Level Control) by using Input 8 to connect a noise detection microphone. The control is then assignable to any output or group of outputs. Its serial port allows for control of unit form third-party system such as Crestron and AMX, and USB connectivity on the front panel allows for easier device configuration.

The mixer is linkable, allowing for two units to be linked in master/slave configuration to create a 16-input, 12-output matrix, and up to 12 BM 3003 mics can be daisy-chained to the system via its dedicated RJ45 port.

The Bottom Line: RDNet is a proprietary protocol for RCF loudspeaker products that provides dedicated networking software for controlling and monitoring all system components and parameters. The DSP allows for configurable system programming including room combining, automatic level control, along with all audio input and output criteria including EQs, gates, compressors, limiters, delays, priorities, and levels.

The What: Roland is now shipping the GO:MIXER, a compact audio mixer for smartphone video production.
