Universities are under increasing pressure to deliver consistent, technology-enabled learning experiences across multiple campuses, often while managing growing AV estates with limited IT resources. For Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina in Colombia, a historic institution founded in 1893, addressing these challenges became a priority. It responded by launching RAUDA, an ambitious initiative designed to centralize and standardize audiovisual infrastructure across its campus network. The school turned to Kramer to do both.

With locations in Bogotá, Pereira, and Valledupar, the university had developed a diverse AV landscape over time, designed to support both in-person and hybrid learning for undergraduate and graduate students across a wide array of disciplines. Relying on a mix of technologies, including classroom touchscreens and commercial displays in halls and reception areas, the systems were managed independently. This fragmented approach made it difficult to maintain consistency across learning environments and shared spaces, along with limited visibility into system performance and slowed response times when issues arose.

To address this, the university launched RAUDA. The goal was not only to improve day-to-day operations, but also to enable more consistent experiences for both faculty and students. Working with system integrator Merge, Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina implemented the first phase of the RAUDA project by deploying a centralized AV over IP architecture across its sites. Classrooms, auditoriums, meeting spaces, and digital signage endpoints were connected into a unified network, allowing content to be distributed and managed more flexibly across locations.

An array of Kramer solutions were selected. These included Kramer KDS-EN7 encoders and KDS-DEC7 decoders for content distribution; VIA GO 3 devices for wireless presentation and collaboration; KC Virtual Brain 5 and Panta Rhei for system management, monitoring, and control; VSM on Cloud for centralized, cloud-based management; a dedicated network infrastructure built around NETGEAR M4250 switches, and TP-583TXR units for transmission support.

“Kramer gave us the ability to centralize and simplify AV management across campuses while delivering a more reliable and consistent experience for users,” said César Andrés Rodríguez Ángel, national director of technological innovation at Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina.

The impact has been felt both operationally and from a user experience perspective. Centralized control has helped streamline support workflows and reduce incident response times, while delivering more consistent and reliable AV performance across campuses. According to the university, this has translated into improved availability of learning spaces and a smoother experience for both staff and students.

The new infrastructure has also unlocked additional capabilities, particularly in the area of digital signage. The university can now manage and update content in real time across high-traffic areas, supporting more agile and targeted communication with students and visitors.

Ashton Bentley, a Kramer company, launched its new ABMX Display Mount range, strengthening its collaboration with Cisco and expanding its portfolio of meeting room solutions optimized for Cisco collaboration technology.

The new range has been designed to provide a structured upgrade path for organizations moving from legacy Cisco MX Series deployments to next-generation collaboration spaces built around Cisco Room Bar and Cisco Room Kits.

ABMX systems are based on Ashton Bentley’s Cisco Certified Display Mount Chassis platform available in single and dual display configurations supporting displays from 43 to 115-inch.

Compatible with Cisco Room Bar, Room Bar Pro, Room Kit EQ and Quad Camera, the systems include integrated mounting brackets, cable management, region-specific power distribution and magnetic front panels for easy service access.

Unlike traditional AV installations, these tool-less systems can be assembled in hours with no complex building work, reducing deployment time, cost and complexity.

The Ashton Bentley architecture supports floor-to-wall, freestanding and mobile configurations, with the structural load carried by the floor rather than the wall. This allows deployment in glass walled offices, listed buildings and other environments where wall loading is restricted.

“Our certified mounting solution established a new level of engineering alignment with Cisco,” said Roger McArdell, chief technical officer at Ashton Bentley. “We are extending that collaboration further by delivering a globally consistent platform that removes much of the traditional complexity of AV upgrades.”

The Ashton Bentley Display Mount platform is also approved for Cisco deployments with Microsoft Teams Rooms in accordance with the Microsoft Express Install solution guidelines. Together, this joint solution means customers can future-proof their investments, and cost-effectively standardize their meeting spaces for any collaboration platform.

The latest Cisco Room devices, based on RoomOS 27, offer flexible support for Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet environments.

Optional AV infrastructure is available through Ashton Bentley’s TX2/DX2 two-box system, which replaces traditional rack-based AV equipment with a simplified architecture supporting uncompressed 4K video, USB-C and HDMI extension, BYOD connectivity and integration with the Cisco Room Navigator.

Set against Australia’s scenic Queensland coastline, Dicky Beach Surf Club serves as both a community hub and a vibrant social destination for members, locals, and visitors alike. To enhance the guest experience, the venue required a versatile, easy-to-use AV system capable of supporting everything from live sports and community presentations to private events and celebrations, and Kramer had the answer.

Recognizing the need for a reliable, scalable, and high-quality networked AV solution, the club turned to Box Security Sound & Vision, with control system programming by Smart Home Programming. Together, they designed and delivered a Kramer AVoIP solution that provides seamless video distribution, zone-based control, and powerful audio performance—all optimized for the club’s dynamic daily operations.

The surf club wanted to transform its AV infrastructure to meet diverse operational needs, including multiple entertainment and presentation zones across bars, dining, and training areas. Distributing content from eight video sources to 18 displays and a large LED wall, the solution required simple, centralized control that staff could manage intuitively, even during busy events.

“The surf club environment is unlike any other,” explained Chev Durrant, telecommunications technician at Box Security Sound & Vision. “You’re dealing with open spaces, ambient noise, and a wide range of content—from background music and live TV to training sessions and announcements. We needed a system that could switch seamlessly between them while remaining rock solid and easy to use.”

To deliver that flexibility, the integrator deployed a Kramer AVoIP backbone based on KDS-EN7 encoders and KDS-DEC7 decoders, delivering lossless, low-latency 4K video across the entire site. A Netgear GSM4248P Managed PoE+ switch forms the core of the network, ensuring smooth communication between devices and guaranteeing reliability even under demanding use.

Each of the eight HDMI sources—including broadcast feeds, media players, and event inputs—is encoded and distributed to 18 displays around the venue. Four additional decoders feed into a Novastar H2 processor, driving a stunning Unilumin 1.5mm LED wall (3x1.68m) in the club’s main function area.

Control across all six zones is managed by the Kramer KC-VirtualBrain-1 platform, programmed by Smart Home Programming. This provides intuitive, centralized command of displays, audio levels, source selection, and lighting presets.

“The Surf Club wanted a system that works, and now anyone that works here can pick it up and get the whole system up and running in seconds," Durrant added. "With us choosing the Kramer system, any staff member can pick up their work iPad, choose where they want a source to be displayed and select what audio they want. It’s all very user friendly.”

The completed system gives the Surf Club an AV environment that’s dynamic, reliable, and simple to operate, supporting everything from relaxed dining to full-scale community events.

Whether AV systems are for rich experiences in venues or for managing signals on campuses like businesses or universities, they often involve equipment from different tech categories. For example, in many organizations it is not rare to see mixtures of two or all three of the following things: media processing equipment, signal extension and switching equipment, and IT department equipment.

There are many factors that have made it possible to accomplish any task that previously required hardwired cables to be achievable using packetized IP. The most challenging thing left to overcome while migrating from hardwired cables to IP is dealing with mixing different equipment types, equipment classes, and vendor solutions with interfaces such as HDMI.

The two most important things that have happened to address this final challenge is the emergence of open standards and specifications—such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, NMOS, and IPMX—and the emergence of IP-to-IP gateway converters of many types to help deal with conversions of media profiles within the media options of the standards and between different media and protocols including proprietary options.

End users looking to evolve legacy or even newer AV systems should consider IPMX-compliant solutions that offer smooth plug-and-play integration. An optimized hybrid infrastructure will leverage interoperability for high-quality audio, video, and data for SMPTE ST 2110 transport across common networks. Organizations should be able to add capabilities at their own pace while avoiding vendor lock-in and giving them the flexibility to build infrastructures that grow with them. Several vendors have always offered modular and standards-based technologies that adapt to real-world challenges, and they are now embracing IPMX integration.

For end-users looking to evolve their AV systems, I recommend attending industry trade shows like InfoComm, ISE, and NAB, among others, which provide a neutral platform to explore new technologies. Ignore the marketing, and what size booth, and who throws the best parties. Do not be a “zombie” tradeshow walker either. That is where you walk aimlessly and get sucked in by the pretty shows people put on, but miss what is right in front of you that can make a difference. Dealer and distributor local shows can work well, just understand the limitations and combine them with other research, as many of these shows will only show you what they sell and are aligned with, leaving out many other brands and new technologies.

If you really want to do what is right for your company, due diligence is everything. Talk directly with a variety of manufacturers and test the products yourself to see if they meet your requirements. Nothing is better than a good old-fashioned shootout between brands, especially if the end user is in control of it to make sure everything is on a proper playing field. All manufacturers are guilty of making their products sound as good as possible. That is simply marketing at its best or worst, for that matter.

Ask questions like what makes your technology better than the competition, what is your warranty, where is it made, what is the life span of the product, do you make the product (yeah, many companies just slap their name on OEM and pretend it is theirs, support, education, TAA compliant, and roadmap. Don’t fall into the AI trap where companies make it sound exciting from a buzzword. See that it really does what they say, regardless of the tag line. At the end of the day, you are solving a problem, and it does not matter what fancy wrapper it comes in; does it simply do what is advertised, and does it do it well?

Today, we’re recognizing that many integrators, IT managers, and end users are seeking solutions that deliver high-quality performance without requiring a complete rip and replace of existing infrastructure. As a result, AV over IP has emerged as a viable solution. By shifting AV distribution onto standard Ethernet networks, it enables organizations to harness the power of their current infrastructure while unlocking new levels of flexibility, scalability, and reliability. Unlike traditional systems that often depend on proprietary hardware and cabling, AV over IP integrates seamlessly into IT environments.

A key advantage of AV over IP, and particularly Software-Defined Video over Ethernet (SDVoE), is its ability to deliver high-performance video and audio with the reliability and interoperability that IT teams expect. With SDVoE technology, audiovisual functions become software-defined, meaning updates, enhancements, and even new features can be deployed through firmware rather than hardware replacement. A software-based approach offers significant future proofing, delaying obsolescence and protecting investments. In an era where supply chain disruptions and budget pressures remain real challenges, that flexibility matters.

Higher education, corporate facilities, houses of worship, and other verticals need standardized, interoperable solutions that scale to large spaces without compromising user experience. In higher education, for instance, AV over IP enables classrooms, lecture halls, and collaborative spaces to run on a consistent backbone, easing IT management and improving reliability.

Looking ahead, AV and IT continue to converge more closely. AV is no longer siloed, but treated as another service on the network, and is subject to the same demands for uptime, security, and scalability. Ethernet’s continued evolution, coupled with AV over IP’s flexibility, suggests that over the next few years, organizations will increasingly standardize on 10G Ethernet backbones. As a result, AV systems will become more reliable, interoperable, and adaptable to future needs, ensuring end users can keep pace with changing expectations without constant reinvestment.

Desperately needing to expand its classroom facilities but faced with little available space and aging infrastructure, John Abbott College, a relatively small, 8,000-student public general and professional institution in Montreal, Quebec, had to get creative. Instead of breaking ground on a new building, the school brought in 32 mobile home-sized modular units and connected them to create 13 new classrooms.

It’s a novel housing idea that’s sweeping across Canada and helped save time and money completing the new addition. The unique classrooms, each about 1,200 square feet in size, are now up and running at the school’s new Maple Hall building, where systems integrator AVI-SPL Canada (Quebec) leveraged a newly installed IP network to equip the classrooms with a variety of AV over IP technologies from Kramer AV.

Installing and testing all the AV equipment was completed in four months. Initial Cat 6 wiring started in September 2024, and students began using the new rooms in January.

“The extensive features of AV over IP make it easier to use and provide more value than traditional point-to-point setups,” said Marc Porlier, regional sales manager, Eastern Canada, at Kramer AV. “The technology enhances the learning experience by offering versatile and scalable AV solutions. AV over IP technology is straightforward to install, reducing setup time and complexity. Its flexible deployment options allow for seamless integration into various educational environments, accommodating different teaching styles and classroom configurations.”

Invisible to Learning

There’s now a new Kramer KT-208 8-inch control panel and a preview monitor at each teacher’s podium at the front of the room, driving an 86-inch SMART Technologies interactive screen and another 86-inch LG monitor. The smart display allows teachers to annotate, draw, and manipulate content in real time, making lessons more interactive and visually appealing. Students can also interact with the display, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Signals are distributed over the IP network to enable different sources to be displayed both from the teacher’s laptop and other classrooms. While each classroom is operating as a separate identity at the moment, there have been some use cases of two rooms sharing resources simultaneously.

“The system handles a lot of the guesswork the teachers used to have to think about,” said Ryan Forster, coordinator, end user experiences at John Abbott College, who spearheaded the design and management of the classroom technology project. “So, we've simplified what they have to do to set up their lessons, but we're also trying something that's going to allow us to scale differently.

"We used to treat every classroom as an individual room, but now we've got the foundation for multi-screen environments. So, teachers can very easily split apart their activity. They can have this source on this screen for this group, and this source is on that screen for another group. The flexibility is really what attracted us to using IP.”

Kramer AV technology is not new to Forster, having worked with them on several projects at the college and nearly 100 traditional classrooms. They enjoy the simplicity of the technology for the end user and the ease of setting it all up.

“The exciting part is that video over IP will technically allow us to go from any encoder to any decoder on our campus, and we can realistically start to send content anywhere we need it to go very quickly and easily,” said Forster. “When we spoke to Kramer about the type of technology we wanted to use, we told them, ‘The best design for our purposes is almost no design.’ We want the technology to be very seamless for our teachers and not get in the way of their lessons.”

A key aspect of the new system is the implementation of comprehensive IP system control, which enables school administrators to quickly learn to seamlessly operate AV features, as well as room lighting and window shade positioning. For Forster, this allows them to make system adjustments without needing to call on the integrator for assistance. Plus, motion sensors automatically shut down the system when no movement is tracked for a given period, which results in significant energy savings.

“For us, this was a quick and easy install,” said Kevin McCoubrey, senior account manager at AVI-SPL. “The customer was prepared for us to come in, and the entire project was well planned from the beginning.”

New Yet Familiar

Most of the rooms at John Abbott College are traditional setups with a single podium and wall screen at the front, which McCoubrey called a "very closed" system. Now, they have a standard regular display for the content as well as an interactive display. Teachers can write annotations on their laptops that are seen on the larger display for the students. Plus, the Kramer control panel supports various multimedia formats, enabling teachers to incorporate videos, images, and other digital resources into their lessons.

A rack in each podium includes a small AV switch for video sources and audio levels. A Kramer AV audio amplifier powers everything. The college kept the familiar scenario of a podium with a laptop connection, but now there is much more flexibility thanks to the internal IP network.

Beyond the flexibility, officials also wanted something they could program on their own. Forster and the assigned IT project team worked with Kramer AV product engineers to create streamlined user interface software that runs on the Kramer tablet displays on the podiums, which teachers can operate without extensive training.

While there was a bit of coding software that was required, Forster said he didn’t want the teachers getting involved at that level. “I expect my teachers to come in and start their lesson right away,” he said. “For them, a minute lost or five minutes lost to technology is a problem. I don't want to have to get a call for a class in session and have to dispatch somebody and sort something out. So far, the systems have been very reliable and the teachers have taken to them quite easily."

Each room also has either six or eight Kramer Galil 6-C ceiling speakers. “We were a little concerned about the 8-foot height of the new rooms,” said McCoubrey, “but it all worked out fine.”

Another technology that’s used frequently is VIA GO, Kramer's device-agnostic streaming product, which is used by teachers and students for streaming up to 4K content from a phone, computer, or tablet to the big screens. The product gives iOS, Android, Chromebook, PC, and Mac users instant wireless connectivity with 4K advanced presentation capabilities.

“This is the type of device that I would see one per input so that I could have four or five student groups broken out and each working on their own screen,” Forster explained. “They can simply cast your content to the screens and they’re good to go. And then the teacher could remotely or from her panel share that with up to all five and say, ‘Guys, look at what Team One has done,’ and display that around the room.”

Networked Success

The AV over IP system at John Abbott College accommodates group-based work that doesn’t get in the way of teaching, which was the goal with the technology from the beginning. Plus, it supports the future expansion of AV options. For example, in the case of a class where a guest presenter attracts more attendees than the main classroom can accommodate, the system can easily connect additional rooms to handle the overflow.

With the initial success they’ve had, Forster said they will certainly add more networking to the college’s existing facilities soon. He sees it as the future of educational facilities around the world.

“I think there are two perspectives here on why an AVoIP infrastructure works so well for us, one from a pedagogical perspective and then one from the IT perspective,” he said. “The pedagogical perspective is looking for flexibility. And they want to expand and grow based on the needs that they have today, which might be different than yesterday or tomorrow. A classroom that was previously assigned to business students might be needed by the social scientists. Things can change rapidly, and the room needs to be able to accommodate those changes.

“From an IT perspective, if we don't have to pull everything else out and redesign from scratch, that's a win,” he continued. “So, by putting in a scalable system versus one that's point-to-point and does one job but really can't do anything else, that's an advantage from a resource perspective and a timing perspective. It offers a future-proof way to approach classroom spaces or teaching and learning spaces."

There were people on the move and more partnerships made, but this week in Pro AV was once again highlighted by two acquisitions.

First, CTI, which has been busy since Feb. 2024 in the acquisition department, made yet another, this time acquiring LightWerks. This expands CTI’s current operations in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area, while bringing Boise, Idaho, and Montana into CTI’s coverage for the first time. CTI serves customers worldwide as a member of the PSNI Global Alliance and across the US, with locations from Michigan to Texas and New Jersey to California. You can read our full coverage here.

• Kramer announced that due to recent changes in U.S. import tariff regulations, it added a 15% tariff surcharge to all product lines sold in the U.S., including Kramer, ZeeVee, and Ashton Bentley. This surcharge will go into effect on May 9, 2025. Software and services are not impacted and will remain surcharge-free.
• Mimo, a manufacturer of small display and AV technology, announced its complete catalog of displays, tablets and AV solutions will be TAA compliant once remaining inventory is exhausted, thus making them exempt from tariffs. Based on the United States Trade Agreements Act (TAA) of 1979, TAA compliance refers to products or services that are either manufactured or "substantially transformed" in the United States or in a designated country that has a trade agreement with the U.S.

UCLA Digital Spaces Collaborates with PlaceOS

UCLA Digital Spaces, the audiovisual design and support division of Digital and Technology Solutions responsible for shaping the future of campus environments, announced a multi-year strategic product development alliance with PlaceOS, a platform for smart workplace and campus automation. TEG and BASE Xperiential Announce Partnership

Transformation Entertainment Group (TEG), has partnered with Houston-based BASE Xperiential (BX). TEG is now BASE Xperiential’s exclusive provider for design support, equipment specification, equipment rental/lease/sale, and managed services which include installation support, tech support, maintenance, repair, and related AV production support services.

BX’s HoloTheater delivers a dynamic and immersive storytelling attraction using three-dimensional holographic technology, laser-projection, and video mapping to bring audiences up close and personal to content. HoloTheater debuted at the Houston Museum of Natural Science with its premiere film, Dinosaur Discoveries: A Holographic Adventure and has since partnered with MacGillivary Freeman Films on the production of its next holographic film coming soon, Ocean Giants. Following the success in Houston, BASE Xperiential will launch HoloTheater at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, FL this summer and are collaborating with TEG to bring HoloTheater to a wide range of global venues.

Overtime: He loves smoking meats and takes great pride in preparing brisket, ribs, or pulled pork for family and friends. “They say once you hit your thirties, most guys have to decide whether they’re going to get into smoking meat or World War history," he explained. "I chose to smoke meat.”

Why You Need to Know Him: Travis Cawthorne is deeply passionate about education, training, and product development, which are his primary focuses in his current role. As he advances in his career, he hopes to continue bridging the gap between technology and real-world user needs, ensuring that AV solutions remain intuitive, powerful, and effective.

AV has been a part of Cawthorne's life for as long as he can remember, which is understandable since both of his parents were in the industry. His dad worked with manufacturers, including Sony, Panasonic, and Kramer, while his mom worked in broadcast AV at Sony. “Most people stumble into Pro AV,” said Cawthorne. “My path was very intentional.”

His dad instilled in him a focus on relationships, and his reputation in the field helped pave the way for him when he started out. “I would meet customers and integrators, and they’d often ask, 'Are you related to Kent?' It was nice to have that recognition, especially early in my career,” said Cawthorne. “My dad has always been a great role model, and his experience and guidance have been invaluable to me.”

After this unofficial start in the industry, he officially began his AV career with Kramer. He spent nearly five years as a field sales engineer, collaborating with sales teams, dealers, and end users to design AV systems. Following that, he worked as a regional brand sales manager for Vaddio and Luxul within Legrand AV before transitioning into a solutions engineering role.

These experiences guided him to his return to Kramer and current role as the director of products and training, where he collaborates closely with customers, incorporating their feedback to help shape future product offerings. “Training and education aren’t just about teaching people how to use products—they’re about empowering them to design better systems, solve problems more efficiently, and drive better outcomes,” Cawthorne added.

His close work with customers provides valuable insights to the product development teams, positioning him as a bridge between the two. “Travis is helping to shape the future of our products and training. His enthusiasm for education, and how deeply he understands the needs of our customers, is inspiring," said Amit Acikovsky, president, Americas Kramer Electronics. "He's a real asset, not just to Kramer, but to the entire AV community."

Cawthorne's early start in the industry provided him with a unique combination of technical expertise and customer-focused thinking. “Because I started in AV so early and have worked across sales, engineering, and product development, I not only understand the technology but also how integrators, consultants, and end users interact with it,” he said. He also emphasizes continuous learning, enabling him to stay ahead of the curve while experimenting with and experiencing new technologies.

Just as his father and mother passed on great insights, he emphasized that, in addition to ongoing education and relationship management, mastering time management can be one of the most critical skills, particularly early in your career. “It’s about being able to give the right attention where it's needed and being flexible enough to pivot when necessary,” he said.

As the AV landscape continues to evolve, one thing has become clear: The demand for seamless, end-to-end AV solutions is growing stronger. Today’s organizations want systems that not only work together out of the box but also offer long-term support across the entire lifecycle of the product. In response, Kramer is evolving to provide exactly that: a holistic approach that ensures everything from the hardware to the software, and even the service, is aligned to support the customer’s vision.

There’s a clear shift toward unified solutions—systems that can be easily managed, scalable, and flexible. LaRue County High School, located in Hodgenville, Kentucky, educates roughly 800 students and was recently in need of a substantial auditorium revamp. Despite a few newer technical elements, the original audio video and lighting (AVL) technologies were installed over 30 years ago, and the auditorium's systems weren't working as well as they once were. The space needed further improvements, as it's used for theater productions, district board meetings, and other gatherings throughout the year. To tackle the substantial project, the high school contacted JCA Media, who assessed and completed the renovation and installation in just about a month.

Originally, staff at LaRue High School had intended to bring on JCA Media strictly to enhance the sound systems. However, once integration specialist Alex Peake arrived on the scene and communicated other building elements that they could improve together, LaRue and JCA combined forces on a much more extensive upgrade that also included lights and projection.

The auditorium now has fully controllable DMX LED house lighting by The Light Source. On stage, eight The Light Source RGBW pendants, ten Chauvet F-145WW fresnels, and eight Chauvet Ovation P-56FC PAR lights were installed. A Chamsys QuickQ30 Console and three Doug Fleenor Designs Preset 10 Stations allow for control in the booth and around the room.

Peake and the rest of the JCA Media team overcame the biggest hurdle, which was starting the overhaul from scratch after gutting the auditorium. They installed a full-range PA system with a Martin Audio SXC118 18-inch cardioid sub, two Martin CDD12B mains, Martin CDD6B choir monitors, CDD5B booth monitors, and new X8 floor monitors, all of which Peake refers to as "a solid, working, functioning system that is going to be reliable, sound great, and last a long time."

A Da-Lite Cosmopolitan Electrol projection screen was installed right behind the proscenium, and an Epson EB-PU1008B laser projector was installed at FOH for easy maintenance access. For further flexibility, three NEC M861 86-inch displays were also installed to run video feeds when the screen can't be lowered. Video distribution is handled via Kramer with a VP440H2 Switcher, VM-4HDT HDBaseT distribution, and three TP-580R HDBaseT receivers at the displays.

For system control, staff have the ability to turn on the AV system from the auditorium's new RTI IST-10 touchpanel. The system asks if they want to use the entire AV system, just audio or just video. If video is selected, the system asks if they want to use projection, displays, or everything simultaneously. This results in a much simpler way of turning on and off the system tech for staff and volunteers. In addition to that, the system will automatically shut itself down at midnight each night if left on to elongate system life.

Distributing power and providing control over the audio, video, and lighting (AVL) system is a LynTec RPC329 Relay Panel with motorized breakers. Sixteen circuits are dedicated to house and theatrical lighting, while four of the panel's circuits power the audio rack, which is triggered with Furman sequencers. The RPC is a single panel with the flexibility to accommodate a multitude of control platforms, including DMX, sACN, HTTP, Telnet, RS-232, or BacNET, found in AVL in space. Built on the industry-accepted G3 Powerlink hardware platform by Square D, the patented RPC family combines circuit protection and power management, on/off control, and power sequencing in one affordable and scalable panel.

"Using a LynTec power control system with RTI makes it easy for staff, teachers, or the auditorium's technical director to interface with any kind of power control," Peake stated. "LaRue really wanted to lock this system down, as a lot of less experienced hands can touch the booth. LynTec is the perfect option because we now have full control over multiple protocols. The LynTec panel also has the ability to turn off theatrical features when they're not in use, saving energy and prolonging the life of the AVL assets in the auditorium. There are a lot of control manufacturers, but there is simply no one else like LynTec."

Not only has this auditorium refresh positively affected board meetings, but the improvements have also made the logistics behind programs and ceremonies so much simpler for LaRue. Prior to the remodel, the control stations were out of commission, and staff had to go to the booth and manually switch on faders and the light board one by one. Because of the ability of LynTec to properly sequence power on and off, now staff can simply walk in, press one button, and watch everything fade on almost immediately. One week after the installation, LaRue High School held an awards ceremony where the major upgrades were showcased.

"LaRue's colors are white and blue, and at the ceremony, they projected a mixture of white and blue with the PAR lights on stage with nice front light. The principal and families were just ecstatic," Peake said. "The theater department head was elated with the new system's functionality."

[LynTec Adds Company Switch Line to Power Control and Distribution Lineup]

The methodically curated collection of AVL products powered by LynTec will make all the difference to students and staff utilizing the auditorium at LaRue County High School. With extra rack room, extra power, and extra DMX availability, the school will be able to enjoy the new auditorium improvements now with the option to expand its technology in the future. Ample circuits are left to support future growth in the AVL system, which signifies that LaRue is committed to keeping their investment protected and up-to-date.

"The LaRue team was shedding happy tears when we were training them on the system. It's incredible to witness a client that is outwardly satisfied and grateful," Peake added. "The reliability and confidence they have in the system proves to us at JCA once again that there are a lot of power control manufacturers, but there is simply no one else like LynTec."

Fabryka Wełny Hotel & Spa, located just outside Łódź, Poland, selected Kramer's signal management solutions in a complete AV overhaul to elevate guest experiences. The hotel sought an intuitive and future-proof control system to bring seamless connectivity, control management, and collaborative capabilities to all nine conference rooms, a ballroom, a wedding hall, and a philharmonic hall.

Working with Warsaw-based AV distributor and integration specialist, Modulit Solutions Polska, Kramer was the partner of choice to ensure the hotel owners' ambitions were achieved and on time.

“Key requirements for the project, included a solution for transmitting an AV signal from one room to the conference rooms and the philharmonic hall, regardless of the distance or when the signal needs to be duplicated, driven, or reformatted.," Joseph Bouaniche, regional sales manager for Kramer, commented. "The conference rooms also required a collaboration system that would be intuitive to use for end users.”

[AVoIP: Beyond the Buzzword]

Kramer’s scalable and flexible KC-BRAINware-25 control platform was selected to enable the hotel’s IT team to effortlessly execute all room control actions straight from a computer. Additionally, Kramer’s KDS-7 AVoIP Encoder—an advanced transmitter for streaming 4K video signals via Ethernet—was selected to bring seamless collaboration and capabilities between devices in conferencing rooms. 

Alongside this system, Kramer’s enterprise-class, cloud-based platform, Kramer Control was implemented, providing IT/AV managers with an easy way to control, monitor and support all AV systems, infrastructures and any third-party devices connected inside conference rooms and event areas. It also allows control of the presentation and the projection screen and even allows set automation: at the push of a button, the window blinds lower, the projection screen comes down, the lighting scene changes, and the projector starts up, ready to take a cue from the user’s device.

“Due to the existing conditions of multiple rooms, the possibility of quick connection and splitting, and the client’s expectations (automation and simple operation), we decided to implement the most optimal solution for AV content management, i.e. Kramer’s AVoIP technology," Łukasz Trojanowski of Modulit Solutions Polska explained. "AVoIP also means flexibility in the event of future changes, especially when it comes to adding more terminals, whether they are signal sources or displays.”

[A True AV Team Effort]

After implementation, the hotel’s AVoIP system took full advantage of Kramer’s technology by allowing simple point-to-point AV transmission (from one transmitter to one receiver), as well as one-to-many or one-to-all. 

“The combination of Kramer’s AVoIP, Kramer Control, and Kramer VIA with other AV system components is easy to integrate and implement.”, explained Trojanowski. “Both users and venue staff appreciate the automation running in the background and the ability to simply change system settings from the touch panel. An addition that has also received excellent feedback is Kramer’s VIA, allowing a user who wants to show something on the big screen to connect wirelessly to the display system, a projector or screen. Whether from an iPhone, Android, Windows laptop, or MacBook, it simply works.

Adam Hall Integrated Systems Presents Integrated Audio, Lighting, and Control Solution

Adam Hall Integrated Systems will introduce the new update for LD Systems QUESTRA. With version 1.3, the design and management software platform makes it possible to do a variety of things, including the ability to integrate third-party solutions for the control and automation of network-based installation solutions. Other highlights include the IP67 fixtures from the Cameo DURA series as well as the expansion of the DQOR speaker series to include dedicated subwoofer models for permanently installed indoor and outdoor use.

QUESTRA 1.3 Update: Control Commercial Audio and Lighting Solutions. QUESTRA 1.3 is designed to be a one-stop solution for specialist planners and installation service providers. Users can now configure and manage audio, lighting, and video technology using a centralized software platform. A new, centralized system architecture and the use of nodes provide the basis for the much wider array of functions in QUESTRA. The Logic Nodes enable modular programming and time-based automation, and they provide extended integration options and seamless management of integrated devices. The Calender Node, for instance, is suitable for complex scheduling tasks, whilst the Network Command Node enables third-party control via TCP, UDP, and HTTP.

LD Systems DQOR SUB 8: Installation Subwoofer for Indoor and Outdoor Use. The LD Systems DQOR series is now complete thanks to the introduction of its own subwoofer models. The new DQOR SUB 8 is equipped with an 8-inch woofer and a 10-inch passive cone and is available in three versions for flexible use: as a passive model (DQOR SUB 8) for outdoor use, as an active model (DQOR SUB 8A) with integrated 250W power amplifier for indoor use, and as an IP55-capable, active Dante solution (DQOR SUB 8D).

Experience Creativity and Christie Integrated Solutions

Christie and its partners will demonstrate how technologies work together to deliver immersive and interactive experiences at ISE 2025. Christie will present its most extensive showcase of AV technology to date across two stands in Hall 3–3K500 and 3C400—under the theme ‘Experience is everything’.

At booth 3K500, a fully interactive floor-to-ceiling projection mapped room, created by Christie partner Augmenta, will combine audio and visual elements to stunning effect. Attendees can interact with content projected on the walls and floor of the room driven by Pandoras Box media server. Monitors will also display tracking data and reveal how the technology dynamically responds to attendees’ movements.

Christie’s newest addition to its 3DLP, native 4K lineup of projectors—the Sapphire 4K40-RGBH, will be stacked and displayed in a rear projection application using a screen provided by Stewart Filmscreen. Visitors can experience a striking demonstration of projection mapping onto an ornamental temple façade using two Christie Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors and Christie Mystique automated alignment and recalibration technology.

Kordz to LaunchNew Outdoor, USB-C and Next Generation HDMI Cables at ISE 2025

Kordz is launching a bevy of new solutions at at Stand 2E310, including outdoor-rated Cat6 cables, advanced USB-C cable solutions, and a series of enhanced HDMI offerings.

Kramer has been working to improve its operational efficiencies. And apparently, it has succeeded: In September, the company announced a revised pricing structure for North, Central, and South America.

Amit Ancikovsky, president of Kramer Americas, told SCN in an exclusive interview that the supply chain issues that began during the pandemic were marked by increased logistics and material costs. "As these increases were relieved in the last two years," he said, "we decided to roll to our customers these savings. Since the savings affected most of our portfolio, we reduced our prices accordingly."

[Supply Chain Lessons Learned]

Kramer expects the U.S. market to lead the region in growth, though the company is seeing consistent growth and momentum in Mexico. "In the last 18 months or so, we are seeing a normalization of the demand into a more natural course," Ancikovsky said. "The U.S. market is the most resilient, most agile, and flexible market in the world. The market reacts fast and furious to changes in both directions."

Since the pandemic, Ancikovsky has seen increased demand for AV projects. "The trend for networked solutions adoption shows no sign of depleting, and the end user experience continues to be, rightly so, front of mind," he added.

Last year, the company introduced a services portfolio to support its channel partners and provide a better experience for their customers. "These services serve as a the ‘glue’ between the different project parts and enable our integration partners to execute on the project at high quality and in a timely fashion," Ancikovsky said. "We see a clear difference in end-customer satisfaction between those projects our partner has sourced project services from us and those they opted not to. As mentioned, with operational savings now passed on to our customers, it’s a win-win for all parties."

Earlier this year, Kramer reinforced its approach to the UCC market with its acquisition of Ashton Bentley, a U.K.-based company focused on commoditized meeting room solutions. Ancikovsky said Ashton Bentley's approach is a paradigm shift for the industry.

"Ashton Bentley provides a 'space in a box,'" he explained, "everything you will need for your corporate space in one solution. Having a total solution is key to streamlined, successful business. This solves one of the most challenging aspects of a corporate project: the costly and intensive labor deployment and coordination on the installation sites. A corporate space becomes a blank canvas that can be dressed up and fully functional in minutes, not days."

According to Ancikovsky, AV-over-IP is the company's most important pillar within its video management and distribution product family. Over the summer, the company reinforced its commitment to growing its AVoIP presence with the acquisition of ZeeVee, which provides AVoIP signal distribution solutions including encoders, decoders, and its ZyPer4K management platform.

[AVoIP: Beyond the Buzzword]

"We were impressed by ZeeVee’s achievements, products, and their subject-matter expertise," he said. "We see synergies across the board between the companies and teams. One of the most significant additions the acquisition provides us is the SDVoE 10G product line—a high-end niche we were not a player in—plus their stellar management software platform, which we plan on integrating into our Panta Rhei ecosystem in the future."

With Kramer's headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel, the company also continues to deal with its country's ongoing war with Hamas. "Our R&D is spread in multiple locations including outside of Israel, whereas our productions and all customer-facing activities and support is performed in the various countries and regions," Ancikovsky said. "Unfortunately, the teams in Israel are well-accustomed to these type of security events ongoing in the background. There was no interruption to the company’s work and business throughout this last year."

Kramer Americas Offers Product Price Reductions

Dante Director enables the remote management of Dante devices from any manufacturer across the internet using a simple, convenient web dashboard. Dante Director provides a powerful, interoperable, manufacturer agnostic IoT platform for the AV industry.

Designed to meet the varying needs of all Dante-based AV-over-IP networks, Dante Director enables IT and AV administrators to be more productive via remote access for management and monitoring. Admins can remotely configure Dante channel subscriptions, control user access, ensure network security, and monitor multiple Dante networks from a single account.

Dante Director works closely with Dante Controller to provide AV management capabilities. After initial setup, users can remotely launch and use Dante Controller from any internet connection without requiring direct local access to the network. Daktronics to Show Flip-Chip COB Product

The latest in Flip-Chip COB (Chip On Board) LED technology will be showcased by Daktronics at Booth W2617. Visitors will see a 0.9-millimeter pixel pitch COB product creating a 7x12-foot 4K screen on one side of the booth and two 0.9-millimeter COB displays on the other side of the booth: One with high frame rate and the other pure black contrast. The company’s latest Integrated Matrix Device (IMD) LED technology will also be in the booth, including a 1.2-millimeter floor display and a 0.7-millimeter display with a 110-inch diagonal size. A speed frame mounting demo rounds everything that can be seen at the Daktronics booth.

The line of products Daktronics offers with this COB technology ranges from 1.8 millimeters down to 0.9 millimeters. It brings less heat to the display face and removes the wire bonds to increase reliability. It also decreases the power consumption for a lower cost of ownership over time.

Christie Brings New Solutions and a MicroTiles LED... Piano?

Christie is celebrating its 95th anniversary at InfoComm 2024. Attendees to Booth W1024 will experience Christie technologies in action from an immersive, interactive room to a piano wrapped in MicroTiles LED.

New features and solutions that will be on display. Attendees can experience the newest version of Pandoras Box Software, which includes significant enhancements to the 2D Warper feature that is integrated with Workspaces. Attendees are invited to experience the M 4K15 RGB projector and lens in a light-controlled environment during demonstrations that take place between 3:30-5 p.m. daily at the booth.

Christie will showcase a MicroTiles LED-wrapped piano, created in partnership with the band Something Corporate and Procraft Media. The band required an LED solution that could encompass as much of the piano as possible and be bright enough to be seen during outdoor, daytime performances. Attendees can see why the small form factor and high brightness of MicroTiles LED made it the ideal solution.

This is precisely what Facepunch has done with its new offices in Birmingham’s upscale Colmore Row neighborhood. Designed by Oktra’s Emily Benussi, Facepunch’s new offices are a mix of high-tech AV to dazzle clients while enabling BYOD videoconferencing, eye-catching decor, and furniture that appear to flow into the floor like paint. There are also employee-pleasing amenities including a gaming room (with the company’s games available to play), curved breakfast bar with stools, and dedicated "wellbeing corner" where they can disconnect from their jobs.

The overall setting is so stunning that Facepunch Studios and Oktra recently won the ‘Project of the Year: Workplace Interiors 5,000 to 15,000 Square Foot” category at the Mixology North Awards 2023.

The AV equipment integration/installation for Facepunch’s new offices was performed by Vision On AV Systems using equipment from Kramer and other sources. The project was on a tight schedule: “We started talking about it in October 2022,” said Cliff Bird, a director with Vision on AV. “It had to be finished by March 2023, although we had to wait until April 2023 to fully commission it."

Networking Is Key

Central IP networking is key to the success of this facility. Facepunch wanted an in-house AV system capable of providing BYOD videoconferencing and collaboration to its staff—including easy and reliable wireless presentation capabilities—across all of its office spaces. To make this happen, Vision On AV deployed a segregated, highly stable AV-over-IP network to provide consistent wireless access everywhere. Ubiquiti Enterprise Layer 3 switches were used as the foundation of this network, which was carefully laid out to ensure minimal service disruptions and fast commissioning.

['Tough Tech' on Display]

In terms of actual segregation, Facepunch’s AV system is split into four distinct control systems: one for each of the two video walls, plus one for the boardroom and one for office audio/remote control stations. Each system is controllable in a Central Communications Room (CCR), which is the heart of the AV installation. Kramer’s KC-BRAINware software platform controls all four systems, including sources, encoders, and multi-zone audio amplifiers/mixers. They are all connected to the CCR using Ubiquiti Enterprise network switches with fiber links.

Since time was an issue on this project, Vision On AV came up with a quick way to commission this facility one space at a time. The company used a simple router and a single Kramer SL-240C, a compact 16-port master/room controller with PoE to test the AVoIP pathways. Once the AV connections were commissioned, Vision On AV connected everything to the CCR’s KC−BRAINware platform.

The task of wowing visitors to the Facepunch lobby is assigned to the two video walls. Each wall is comprised of nine 55-inch NEC flat panel monitors in a 3x3 configuration. The feeds to these monitors are delivered from the CCR using AVoIP rather than a conventional video control unit. "AV-over-IP is just so much more flexible and easier to use to populate these screens,” said Bird.

[Bring on BYOD]

Each of the NEC monitors within the video walls are connected to its own Kramer KDS-DEC7 decoder and Cloud DCM1 digitally controlled zone mixer. “This one-to-one setup provides a very versatile way to use the media walls,” explained Matthew Hale, pre-sales and technical support engineer for Kramer UK. “They can either have it set as a video wall, with one image on the entire thing. They can also use the screens individually should they want to. That’s another reason we chose AV-over-IP: scalability. The client can use up to nine sources on one media wall and have individual screens showing different things, without any major changes to their infrastructure at all.” The media walls can even be reprogrammed remotely from the lobby.

Minimal Space, Maximum Sophistication

Visually, Facepunch’s 10-seat boardroom is a very minimalist space, but the simplicity belies its AV sophistication. The boardroom is a fully automated space with wireless presentation and multi-platform videoconferencing, interactive displays, and zoned audio.

The boardroom uses an 86-inch 4K LG UL series monitor and Poly Studio X70 videobar as the basis of its videoconferencing system. The X70 comes with dual 4K lenses; two-way stereo speakers, aluminum cone tweeters, and advanced bass ports; Poly DirectorAI smart camera technology; and NoiseBlockAI noise reduction technology. The system also includes a Kramer KDS-DEC7 AVoIP decoder and PA-120Z power amplifier. Inputs to the display, control of the X70, and selection of sources are all managed using a Kramer KT-107 touchpanel, which also manages the room lighting and blinds.

“Primarily what Facepunch wanted was a programmed touchpanel system so that they could start the room and put it in the mode that they want to use easily, along with a very user-friendly way of controlling the components in the room,” Hale explained. “The control system is all Kramer: their touchpanels, their control processor, and the other items that they have in that room.

"One device that stands out is the Kramer VIA Campus2, which is a wireless collaboration device. Any user can connect to it wirelessly and use all of the peripherals that are connected physically to that device. Now this is a common way of doing things these days, but Kramer was one of the first to the market with that capability of sharing USB devices wirelessly.”

Five other rooms, including some executive offices and smaller meeting rooms, have been equipped with videoconferencing and BYOD capabilities. "They’re using Logitech cameras controlled by Kramer VIA Versa virtual camera drivers, and Kramer VIA Connect2 wireless presentation, collaboration, and conferencing solutions, so that you've got wireless BYOD capability within each of the rooms," said Bird. To support AVoIP video delivery on a range of video monitors, Kramer KDS-DE7 decoders were added to the boardroom, game development area, breakfast bar, meeting rooms, and other interactive spaces.

Meeting Facepunch’s tight installation schedule was a big challenge for Vision On AV and Kramer, but it wasn’t the only one. “The biggest challenge for me was supporting the KDS-7 encoders/decoders because these were very new to the market when Facepunch started to have them installed,” Hale said. “That was a learning process for us, for them, and for the integrator as well on how to set this solution up and then how to use it.”

Kramer launched Panta Rhei, a single, centralized, cloud-based platform designed to encompass the entire audiovisual lifecycle, offering an suite of services for system integrators, IT/AV managers, and end users.

Kramer Unveils Advanced AVoIP Solutions KDS-17 and KDS-100

Kramer is expanding its AV-over-IP portfolio and will showcase its new KDS-17 and KDS-100 solutions at ISE. Kramer's AVoIP solution portfolio includes a full array of decoders, auto-switcher encoders in various form factors, and a dedicated cloud-based device manager. Lightware Visual Engineering to Debut New 1G AV-over-IP Solution

Lightware will showcase a range of solutions for the corporate, education, and live event sectors at booth 3N750. One of these will be the premier of the Gemini GVN.

Gemini GVN, the new 1G AV-over-IP solution, is capable of transmitting 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 image quality. Additionally, Lightware will showcase its rental and staging solution, UBEX, which enables uncompressed 4K UHD@60Hz 4:4:4 signal extension with latency-free multi-streaming. UBEX is designed for use in a 10G Ethernet network.

Visitors to the Lightware stand will also see the Taurus TPN—the media-over-IP solution tailored for medium to large conference rooms—and Taurus UCX-4x3-HCM40-Dual Screen UCX. PPDS Unveils New 'Publisher App'

To be unveiled at ISE 2024, PPDS will launch of its new 'PPDS Publisher app, designed to offer effortless content creation capabilities and seamless wireless sharing on Philips B-Line business TVs

Philips B-Line is the company's versatile Business TV family, adopted by a wide range of market verticals, with corporate, retail, education, hospitality, food and beverage, health, and fitness among its biggest use cases. 

The move is designed to simplify the process of creating content and immediately publishing (or scheduling) it on a display (or fleet of displays) creating new opportunities to engage with colleagues and customers. The PPDS Publisher app will come preinstalled on all new Philips B-Line models and can be quickly added to existing ones.

d&b to Showcase New Range of MILAN-enabled Products

The new range of MILAN-enabled products being showcased by d&b at stand 7E150 in Hall 7includes the DS20 Audio Networking Bridge, the DS100M Signal Engine, and the D90 power amplifier. These new products demonstrate d&b's dedication to future-proof technology. 

d&b's unique offering of both MILAN and Dante underlines its commitment to providing users with a transitional perspective and investment security. The DS20 Audio Network Bridge has been designed to provide a seamless connection between d&b systems and MILAN. Acting as an interface between d&b amplifiers and the MILAN audio transfer protocol, the DS20 boasts impressive technical features including 16 digital AES 3 output channels, 4 digital AES 3 input channels and an integrated, fully AVB-capable 5 port network switch for unparalleled flexibility and redundancy.

The DS100M Signal Engine is the MILAN-enabled iteration of the DS100 with Dante. As well as providing maximum loudspeaker performance, it maintains lower internal temperatures at highest output, ensuring long and reliable operation. On Oct. 7, Hamas launched a terrorist attack on Israel. With an estimated 1,200 dead, it is considered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in modern history. There were other atrocities committed by Hamas during the coordinated attack as well, including kidnapping, torture, and sexual violence. As a result, Israel formerly declared war on Hamas, and military action continues in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has held power since 2007.  

For most of the Pro AV community, the Israel-Hamas war is a series of headlines and sound bites, a tragic collection of images and voices from a grieving nation thousands of miles away fighting for its very survival. But for Pro AV companies based in Israel, the war is now a part of daily life.

[SCN Top 50 Systems Integrators 2023]

Kramer Electronics, which manufactures an extensive catalog of specialty Pro AV products, is roughly a 20-minute drive from Tel Aviv. "The longest path to cross Israel from west to east will take the average driver less than two hours, which gives you a perspective on the size of Israel," explained Gilad Yron, CEO. "Due to the country's small size, the threat remains relevant daily, affecting all parts of Israel, including areas like where Kramer's offices are located."

Headquartered in Ra'anana, MSolutions is in the center of the country and about 75 miles north of the Gaza Strip. The company is known for its test equipment, cables and extenders, cameras, microphones, and more. Eliran Toren, CEO, told SCN the area has had shelter-in-place periods, but "we have not suffered anywhere close to what the southern areas have experienced. It has been truly horrific and impossible to digest."

MSolutions has not lost anyone within its immediate circle, but the team has not been untouched by the war. "There are people we work with in the south that lost family members. I know of one company advisor who lost his son,” Toren said. “On a personal level, a close friend of mine lost his neighbor. It is very difficult to absorb.”

"In Israel, the 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' game is actually two degrees," Yron explained, "which makes the loss very personal for us." Kramer has also not lost any team members as a result of the war, for which Yron is profoundly thankful. However, many family members of Kramer employees are serving in the army.

In response to the war, two members of the MSolutions team joined the Israeli Army as reservists; one was responsible for quality assurance, while the other led the company's shipping operation. "That meant we had to join forces as a company and pitch in together to fill those gaps. It displayed the strength of our company and is representative of what has been happening throughout the country,” Toren noted.

A significant portion of Kramer's production is situated outside of Israel. According to Yron, the company has also taken proactive measures to safeguard against potential disruptions, such as maintaining a robust inventory, to meet customer demand without interruption.

"Kramer's team has remained remarkably resilient and productive," Yron added. "Despite many employees being enlisted from the onset of the conflict, there has been no noticeable impact on productivity levels. In fact, Kramer didn’t miss even a single shipment or delivery as a result of the war. One can say that the level of commitment is even higher than before. I salute them for that."

The war impacted Israeli businesses, of course, but MSolutions has adjusted to meet new demands. "Supplying technology for meeting rooms and learning spaces is a major part of our business. That went away for a while inside Israel,” Toren explained. “However, our government vertical business increased, as we supplied the same technologies for war rooms and similar spaces. The reasons for this were, of course, unfortunate, though this is the reality of the effect that the fighting initially had on our in-country business."

Toren also shared that MSolutions has felt the "warmth and support" of the Pro AV community. "It is a very tightly knit industry and we are proud to be a part of it,” he said.

"During these challenging times, we have received tremendous support and positive reactions from our customers worldwide," Yron said. "This trust and partnership mean a great deal to us. We are deeply appreciative of our customers' support, as it not only helps us continue our operations but also reinforces the resilience and unity within the AV community."

[ISE 2024 Is THE Spot for Systems Integrators]

Despite the war, MSolutions will have its own booth (5G820) at ISE 2024 in Barcelona later this month. Focused on the meeting and learning space, the company will debut the new MS-63U1C extender set for USB 3.2 transport and will preview a unique docking station. Toren anticipates Israeli attendance will be “down substantially” at the show this year. “It’s unfortunate,” he added, “but it is the reality of the situation we are all living through.”

Kramer will also have a booth (3D300) as it attends its 20th ISE show. "Thinking back to our first time at ISE, it's amazing to see how we've always been pushing boundaries," Yron said. "We’re super excited about unveiling some really cool products at ISE this year. Despite all the challenges we’re facing nationally, our passion for innovation hasn’t slowed down a bit. We’re super proud to be part of this industry and totally committed to keeping things moving forward."

Kramer's range of network-based hardware and remote management software solutions have been selected to enhance the TV viewing and audio experiences in the bar areas of the Norman Hotel in Woolloongabba, Brisbane.

With a history dating as far back as 1889, the two-story Norman Hotel is one of Woolloongabba’s oldest landmarks. Added to the Queensland Heritage List in 2005, Norman Hotel is a go-to destination for locals and tourists alike, looking to enjoy a vibrant atmosphere, and the extensive choice of live TV sporting events and other entertainment screened in the bar areas.

Upgrading the Experience

Boasting 12 large-screen TVs, each placed to provide uninterrupted views, the existing TV system had become outdated and unreliable, no longer working in certain areas and frequently breaking down. Capable of only showing content in 720p standard definition (SD), the experience for punters had fallen below expectations, while creating unnecessary daily challenges among staff, who were repeatedly being diverted away from their primary job roles.

As part of a major system upgrade, the Norman Hotel’s management team sought a new, highly flexible video and audio solution that would provide site-wide reliability, seamless and effortless control, and 4K UHD picture performance, all while retaining its existing fleet of TVs.

SDC Solutions and Smart Home Programming and Automation teamed up with the Norman Hotel to create the immersive environment. Based on its combined knowledge and experience with the company, Kramer and its range futureproof solutions was chosen for the project.

Working with Kramer’s Australia team throughout, the Kramer VS-1616DN-EM multi-format digital matrix switcher was chosen to upgrade video performance from SD to HD on all 12 large screens. Running on the Kramer Network, the VS-1616DN-EM system is controlled by Kramer’s scalable and flexible SL-280 room controller and a Kramer FC-26, PoE control gateway. 

Previously, the audiovisual system inside the Norman Hotel was controlled via an app on a single iPad, which was regularly moved around as different staff members used it to change channels, adjust audio and rectify any problems that occurred. Now, Norman’s bar now has access to nine separate zones of video with nine inputs, which are controlled using Kramer’s advanced cloud-based platform, Kramer Control. The enterprise-class platform enables the Norman Hotel to take control of any in-room AV and automation devices, from any location in the building, or even off-site.

As part of the new upgrade, all management of each TV, is controlled using installed (fixed) Kramer’s KT-1010, 10-inch IPS, multi-touch panel displays, which have been strategically placed and installed on walls and shelves around the staff areas of the bar. 

Using Kramer Control, the KT-1010 displays feature a tailored, highly intuitive interface—requiring limited training for staff—for effortless changing of channels and adjusting audio settings. This ensures visitors receive the ultimate, uninterrupted, highly immersive entertainment experience, all delivered in 4K.

Completed on time and on budget, the system upgrade has proven a major hit with staff and punters alike, with the venue now equipped and futureproofed to provide a perfect destination for local and global sporting events, including the 2030 Brisbane Olympics, of which the nearby Gabba will be the home stadium.

“Feedback from the Norman from both managers and upper management has been very positive," said Gavin Sayers, telecommunications installer for SDC Solutions. "The benefits of using Kramer have come through the reliability, customer feedback with how easy it is to use.”

For the last 70 years, Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, KY, has been producing whisky. Its 1,300-acre Star Hill Farm features 30 buildings housing production, bottling, and warehouse facilities, as well as an Innovation Lab and the Home Place Visitor Center, the latter of which serves as the starting and end point for guided tours. As part of a major renovation, Maker’s Mark recently enlisted local AV design and integration firm JCA Media to upgrade its AV systems across its campus.

First on the list was the employee breakroom, which required distributed audio as well as video for both internal messaging and presentation. JCA outfitted this space an Allen & Heath AHM-32 audio matrix processor integrated with eight Martin ceiling speakers, which are driven by a LEA Connect Series 704 amplifier. There are also three NEC commercial displays, one 98-inch and two 65-inch screens.

[I Love It Loud]

Switching is achieved through a Kramer presentation switcher, and an RTI KX7 touchpanel provides control. “Using the touchpanel, users can choose between different audio sources on the AHM and control what shows on the large screens,” explained Alex Peake, project manager at JCA. “It’s simple but flexible.”

The breakroom deployment expanded to the nearby bottling lines, above which JCA integrated Technomad speakers, also driven by the LEA amp and controlled by the RTI interface. “We did a little bit of aiming for directivity to make sure that the people on bottling would hear and the visitors walking through don’t get blasted with music,” Peake explained.

From there, JCA moved on to the Innovation Lab, where whisky makers formulate new products based on the producer’s classic bourbon recipe. The building features eight separate audio zones, with an Allen & Heath AHM processor distributing sound to the lab itself, plus a conference room, VIP tasting room, outdoor patio, kitchen, restroom, and two offices. A main RTI KX7 touchpanel provides control throughout, with two smaller touchscreens located in each office.

Keeping Tours on Track

At the heart of the renovation was the Home Place Visitor Center, which includes a main gallery, check-in area, cocktail bar, and a sitting room. Outside visitors may stroll through the Culinary Garden, a pergola, or gather on a patio.

Joe Riggs, senior manager of engineering operations at Maker’s Mark, explained that audio quality throughout these spaces was a top priority. Because many people arrive before their guided tours—and therefore use this time to do some initial exploring on their own—it was also necessary for them to hear announcements throughout Home Place.

“Our visitor center is the first thing people experience at the distillery, so we want our guests to feel welcome and have music playing,” Riggs said. “They might be drinking in the bar or sitting on the patio, so being able to announce those tours no matter where the guests are and getting them where they need to be on time is important.”

Peake highlighted the need for delivering high-quality audio while respecting the building’s architectural and design elements. “[Home Place needed] audiophile-quality sound, the equipment needed to disappear aesthetically, and the control needed to be simple to operate yet extremely flexible,” he said. The system is used for music playback and announcements; staff members also have access to four roaming microphones that can be fed into the system when necessary.

For Home Place, JCA selected speakers by Danley Sound Labs to fulfill both audio quality and aesthetic requirements—there are 48 positioned throughout the facility, including in every restroom stall. “One of the issues with the visitors center was that these were very small spaces. We needed something we could make disappear while also having all the headroom we needed and crystal-clear audio,” Peake said.

He recalled that his team worked with the loudspeaker manufacturer to custom paint the cabinets to match the Maker’s Mark color palette. “We have about 17 Danley Cube speakers around the outside of the house that are [painted] a specific Maker’s Mark brown," he added. "That can only be found here.”

Audio distribution for Home Place required a larger processor, and JCA selected the Allen & Heath AHM-64. An 11-inch RTI KA11 touchpanel serves as the main control interface that displays a blueprint of the interior and exterior zones. “[Users] can easily select a room, then choose what it’s listening to and mix in different sources like the wireless mic or music playback or the level of the tour announcement audio,” Peake explained.

JCA also programmed music playback presets for each room that allow announcements to take priority. Additional presets let users turn the music off when the wireless mics are in use, and a "Do Not Disturb" feature prevents announcements from being heard in selected spaces when VIP tours are in progress. In addition to the KA11, RTI touchpanels positioned in the cocktail bar and check-in desk enable staff at these locations to recall presets as well.

Cocktail Bar Challenges

One of the challenges JCA faced was providing intelligibility in the cocktail bar and gallery. The high glass ceilings, combined with materials like plaster, tile, and hardwood floors, presented a number of reflective surfaces that would make it difficult for people to hear announcements when large groups were in the spaces.

To address this, JCA activated the AHM-64’s Ambient Noise Compensation function, which works in conjunction with hidden boundary microphones that are fitted into the ceiling. These mics “listen” to the room and increase or decrease the master volumes in these spaces, based on their occupancy at any given time.

“If 50 people walk into the gallery, the announcements and music levels will gradually rise with the noise in the room,” Peake said. “As the group leaves, it slowly rolls back down.” JCA also outfitted the cocktail bar with acoustic treatments—again, custom-painted according to the Maker’s Mark color palette—to reduce reflections in this area.

Maker’s Mark is continuing to perform renovations and make AV upgrades across its campus. One end goal is the ability to provide communication and paging between its buildings. This scalability is why JCA selected Allen & Heath’s AHM platform. “It’s very much going to be a connected distillery from building to building,” Peake said. “That is the ultimate end game that we’ve kept in mind as we’ve built these systems.”

This level of connectivity—and even that which already exists in each of the revamped buildings—requires communication between the AV and IT teams, Riggs noted. “JCA has worked phenomenally with our corporate IT department,” he said. “Any time we do a connected conference room IT is always involved, and Alex and his team are more than willing to jump on Teams calls with that team to discuss the details.”

Peake, a fan of Disney, drew inspiration from what he’s observed at the entertainment behemoth’s amusement parks when thinking about how AV can contribute to creating an experience at Maker’s Mark. “We wanted audio everywhere,” he said. “At Disney, everywhere you go you hear something that is keeping you in that area, keeping you in that feeling. That’s what we wanted for Maker’s: to use audio to help that experience continue throughout the visit.”

At 4 p.m. on Friday, June 16, the announcement rang through the Orange County Convention Center to officially close the InfoComm 2023 show floor. I had just squeezed in one last booth visit with display company i5LED—and that was after sneaking into Datapath’s booth to learn about its new VSN V3 video processor.

Yes, my InfoComm dance card gets full in a hurry, and then it gets overstuffed. I don’t see that changing anytime soon—just too much to see. And hear.

For example, I got to listen to the new IsoFlare series of ceiling speakers from AtlasIED. Beyond the amazing sound, I was impressed when AtlasIED’s president/CEO John Ivey went off script in the middle of the press conference and started talking fervently about a safety clamp on the ceiling speakers. I used to be a production guy—I’ve hung my share of lights, and I was incredibly steadfast in the use of safety chains (still am). I appreciate the quality of the new speakers, but I really appreciate Ivey’s commitment to safety.

“Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” That expression is usually attributed to management consultant Peter Drucker. Gilad Yron, Kramer’s CEO, brought it up during the company’s press event. He said part of the company’s new strategy was culture—supported by building a strong regional infrastructure. Kramer is also making a big investment in software, even though the company is still mostly known for its hardware solutions.

Apparently, that strategy is working, with double-digit growth for the company in 2021-22, according to Yron. Despite some macroeconomic headwinds, he said the company is still experiencing double-digit growth in 2023, with the United States leading all regions. 

Sustainability is also important to me, and it was nice to see so many companies making real commitments. Barco, for example, was showing off the second generation of its ClickShare CX-50. For those of you who didn’t get the demo on the show floor, the CX-50 enables wireless conferencing for meeting rooms.

Yes, the technology promotes meeting equity, and Barco was certainly touting its features and benefits. But the company had another story to tell: The CX-50 earned the CO2 Neutral Silver label from CO2logic, a climate advisory organization. The certification even included an external audit by an independent third party. Keep up the good work, Barco.

[3 Things Everyone Was Talking about on the InfoComm 2023 Show Floor]

Finally, let me call out two very different new products from the show floor that really impressed me. The first won’t surprise anyone who donned a VR headset for the demo. X-VRSE, XTEN-AV’s VR solution, lets you visualize and design your AV solutions in an immersive, virtual environment. Now this is how you take proposals to the next level.

On the other end of the spectrum was Visix’s Choros booking system. Scan a QR code at a shared space with your smartphone and book it. That’s it. Really. There’s no app to download and no hardware to maintain. It’s a cloud-based solution that uses AR technology to make it almost too easy to book a conference room.

Visualization and CineAV partner with Hall Technologies

Recently Hall Technologies has expanded its presence and supply chains in EMEA via U.K. technical solutions distributors, Visualization, as well as Cine AV, a technical support and distribution provider for the industry in Africa. Hall announced a strategic distribution agreement whereby both will have full access to Hall’s extensive range of products covering connectivity and UC.

2. Kordz Demystifies Power over Ethernet (PoE) Technology for Systems Integrators

This newest generation of PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology offers great promise to systems integrators by delivering more power to high-wattage devices like PTZ cameras, videoconferencing systems, and large displays.

3. Pitbull Powered by KLANG

To ensure that Pitbull’s backing band, The Agents, are hearing themselves and each other in the most natural and beneficial way, monitor engineer Matt Holden recently added a DMI-KLANG card to his staple DiGiCo Quantum5 console. Holden, who has served as Team Pitbull’s dedicated monitor engineer for the past eight years, is using KLANG’s immersive platform in his monitoring setup for the first time on the Can’t Stop Us Now Tour. He is utilizing the DMI-KLANG to supply six immersive band mixes—drums, percussion, bass, guitar, keys, and DJ—two guest mixes, one tech mix, and one playback engineer mix.

With a strong relationship with GPA business units locally in market, Kramer has been increasingly working with the GPA regional teams and global customers so it was critical that together the organizations align to better support customers and maintain a consistency with global delivery.

As I reviewed my mental notes from InfoComm 2022, five trends coalesced. In the coming days, I will dive deeper into some of these topics, but I wanted to share this top-level with you. There were 557 exhibitors, and I could only see a fraction of them. I would love to hear from you about what trends you saw.

Can You Say Collaboration?

Of the 557 exhibitors listed on the InfoComm22 site, 201 were listed as having conferencing and collaboration solutions. Frankly, I’m surprised it was that few.

Companies known for their audio products showed cameras and integrated audio and video bars for the first time. Not yet seen in the US, Biamp presented its line of Parlé audio and video conferencing bars, Vidi conferencing cameras, and MuxLab’s MuxMeet Videobar came out of the shadows. And for companies such as Epson that do not have an integrated video conferencing product, they are working with Microsoft and partnering with companies such as Jabra to offer a complete Teams Rooms solution.

Furniture companies such as Salamander have designed tables to maximize the viewing angle of meeting participants. Its Infiniti table is wedge-shaped, making it easy for the far end to see everyone seated.

Bullish on Shipping

Supply chain issues are a fact of life in every industry and will continue for the foreseeable future. Despite that, many manufacturers were broadcasting that they have products in stock and shipping. Yamaha UC wanted to ensure you didn’t miss that message, so the staff was wearing flashing buttons “We Have Stock.” 

AtlasIED’s vice president of Sales, Michael Peveler, was quick to point out that except for three Dante-enabled speakers which will be available in Q4, everything else they were showing in the booth was in stock and shipping including the new Dante amplifier.

The big news at ZeeVee was that its two new AV over IP products would be shipping within 30 days of the show.

Solutions, Not Boxes

Crestron, Kramer, Legrand AV, and Panasonic Connect booths were notably different at InfoComm 2022 than in the past. These booths were thoughtfully designed to present complete solutions representing specific applications or room layouts. Previous booth tours would comprise nicely presented black boxes with a litany of alphanumerics representing the model number and a bullet list of features. Kudos to these companies and others that are moving toward the ecosystem narrative versus the pieces and parts.

Virtual Production / Extended Reality 

While at InfoComm, I went camping (twice) and surfed a digital wave. Absen, INFiLED, and Planar showed the power of virtual production / extended reality. The use of these virtual LED backgrounds in movie production is poised to save billions of dollars in location shooting as well as help actors feel present in the filming rather than pretending with a green screen.

More importantly for our industry, the use of VR/ER has the potential to increase engagement in education and corporate presentations.

Audio Comes First in AV

Finally, audio is getting its due. Holger Stoltze, Yamaha UC’s senior director of technical sales and marketing at Yamaha UC is a frequent panelist of my AV Technology New Era AV/IT webcast series. He often points out, “audio comes first in ‘AV.’” 

The hybrid environment is here to stay, and clear, intelligible audio is the most important component.

To enable employees in control rooms to keep an eye on all content, various screens can be displayed on one large monitor. Particularly exciting for this purpose is the PersonalWorkplace-Controller, a multi-viewing tool that allows up to 26 video sources to be displayed and operated on a single screen depending on the application. AV professionals benefit from a flexible layout, with image quality up to 4K60. The PWC optimizes workflows, where multiple signals need to be monitored. Combining a KVM system with the PWC ensures secure, high-performance, and flexible access to all relevant computer systems. It’s been quite a while since SurgeX last hit the InfoComm show floor, but despite how technologies (and everything else) have evolved over the past couple years, one thing remains consistent: Power anomalies are a risk to electronics all over—from the home office to the corporate boardroom to the dealer showroom. A strong power foundation must be in place to keep things up and running. Homes and commercial spaces both rely on more technology than ever, and for InfoComm 2022, SurgeX is excited to bring forth a portfolio of trusted power protection solutions that safeguard AV equipment, ensure performance continuity, and enable remote monitoring. 

The award-winning SQUID power management system will be on display at the SurgeX booth. Providing AC/DC power protection, boxed network control, and analytical software in one compact chassis, SQUID streamlines installation of the most highly sought-after and critical power management and monitoring tools for electronics and AV systems. Integrators no longer have to install a product for AC, another for DC, and yet another to monitor and control the power environment. It is the perfect solution for collaborative flex environments, huddle spaces, and other tight-spaced AV settings.

SurgeX will also display its new line of UPS solutions with built-in isolation transformers. Available in three models, the line-interactive, cost-effective UPS + Isolation Transformer line safeguards sensitive connected equipment by eliminating neutral-ground voltage, reducing lockups, and mitigating downtime by completely isolating connected equipment from the grid and other electronic loads that can pollute the branch circuit. They feature a true sine wave interactive UPS to filter, condition, and stabilize power while simultaneously providing all the benefits of low-impedance isolation transformer technology at the rack level. The SurgeX UPS + Isolation Transformer solutions are virtually silent, making them an ideal match for showrooms, audio systems, and other sound-reliant installations.

ATEN has been working hard to help our partners meet the new needs for AV and will showcase these solutions at InfoComm 2022. Our company is focused on providing connectivity and control solutions that foster emerging AV environments that enable the amount of interactivity and flexibility required to build a new, better normal. We work with our partners to meet the demands of these new requirements and challenges and to find the best solutions.

We have been working to enable hybrid and remote environments in a variety of industries. Education has new requirements to support remote and in person classrooms and lecture halls. Entertainment has been revolutionized, with new immersive and mixed reality experiences. Office spaces and meeting rooms have transformed to support the hybrid work environment and focus on creating new collaboration spaces.

We are also working with partners to develop immersive environments with our HDBaseT video extenders that meet their needs for long-range AV transmission and quick, responsive equipment. Our video presentation switches, control boxes, and content creation products are being used to transform offices and classrooms into collaborative experiences for both remote and local participants.

I am eagerly looking forward to supporting new AV experiences as the application of collaborative and immersive AV technology is applied in new and unpredictable ways to delight and excite everyone. I believe AV technology is just on the cusp of supporting a new collaborative and immersive world.

As we continue to move forward and transition our lives to blend the remote, physical, and virtual into hybrid environments at work and school, the efforts to find suitable collaboration solutions will be ongoing. 

Hybrid environments are an amalgam of fluidity. There is no fixed plan or one-size-fits-all strategy anymore. Just how does a solution provider or manufacturer operate in these new environments? Basically, we work together and offer products and services that meet the demands of these hybrid settings, both in the workspace and in the classroom. We need to deliver products that can be smart and connect employees, teachers, and students. We also need to support our AV partners by designing products that continue to evolve with the changing needs of their customers.

At InfoComm 2022, I believe that we’ll see products and services that accommodate the fluidity of the hybrid environment and fusion of flexible solutions—more interactive and larger screens, products to facilitate collaboration and communication, and products that support a hybrid life. ViewSonic, for example, will be introducing the next generation of ViewBoard interactive displays with the IFP62 and IFP52 series. They are ideal collaboration products that allow businesses and schools to create connected spaces and help teams collaborate. Other products will include portable monitors for added convenience. 

ViewSonic has developed display solutions that can fit in with ever-changing environments. Our AV partners need to have products that are adaptable to their customers’ needs, from seamless connectivity and interactive tools to collaborative technologies and software that allow people to participate in the office, classroom, home, or on the road.

Brompton Technology is a specialty manufacturer of LED processors based in London, UK. Since 2012, we’ve been delivering world-class products, with a heavy focus on customers in live events and concert touring. The road-worthiness proven in these areas have helped us make a name for ourselves as the most dependable option LED processing. We also bring a feature set and ease of use that is truly second to none. This is born out in the fact that the very first processors we delivered, 10 years ago, can still be found in working rental inventories today. Those early products are still capable of being updated, as well! 

At InfoComm 2022, we’ll be showing our full range of processors, from the HD-compatible S4 and T1, to our 4K S8 and flagship SX40 units. 

At Brompton, we never stop improving and innovating. One recent example is our Hydra camera measurement system, a product we created due to the lack of capabilities found in off-the-shelf calibration systems for LED. Hydra turns the legacy calibration process on its head, and by truly understanding what each LED on a panel is capable of, our processors are able to achieve a very high level of performance, especially when dealing with HDR sources. We call this process Dynamic Calibration. 

In addition to hardware developments, we’re constantly pushing new feature updates (always free of charge!) in our Tessera software. Over the past couple of years, we’ve found our products being used heavily in broadcast, XR, and virtual production for film. So, our most recently added features have been quality-of-life improvements for using LED in-camera. Some of these latest features are Frame Remapping, ShutterSync, 3D LUT, and camera tracking implementations. Please stop by our booth to say hello and check out the latest developments!

The concept of the workplace is changing. It is no longer all about work (in the sense of routine tasks) or about place. Instead, organizations are beginning to embrace the concept of a more flexible approach, where employees’ homes are the place to get things done and the office is the place to figure things out. We are seeing this happen at Intel, where many employees have been given the opportunity to continue to base themselves at home—returning to the office for those activities that benefit from face-to-face interaction, such as collaboration. To keep talented employees, organizations will need to evolve, and the more quickly and seamlessly they can adapt, the more successful they will be. A big part of this evolution will involve the rethinking, and the adding, of collaboration spaces.

The philosophy behind the Intel Unite solution is based on the recognition that evolution is constant, and to meet customers’ needs for fast, frictionless adaptation, a product must not only be able to evolve, but it must be designed to evolve. That’s why our software-based, cloud-delivered collaboration solution uses an open and extensible architecture that allows the seamless integration of a growing library of collaboration-enhancing apps, some developed by Intel, some by our partners, and some—like the new Bose VB1 video bar app—developed jointly. It’s why we offer a publicly available SDK that gives IT and solution partners the freedom to develop custom solutions. 

At InfoComm, we’ll demonstrate not only app integrations like the newly released Google Meet app, but also the many other features that make the Intel Unite solution uniquely adaptable. We’ll also show why it is well positioned for a BYOM world where collaborators must switch seamlessly between in-room, remote, and hybrid scenarios, and where collaboration spaces can vary from touchdown spaces to boardrooms.

Thought Leader: Sam Recine, Chair, Pro AV Working Group, AIMS

At InfoComm, AIMS will host its first live interoperability demonstration of Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX)—a set of standards-based protocols designed to ensure interoperability for AV over IP. This first-of-a-kind demo will feature networking equipment and hardware and software nodes running both IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110, the standards suite on which IPMX is based. The demo will also highlight gateways between IPMX and other protocols, developer kits, and elements of IPMX-enabled AV-over-IP workflows. 

With this demo at InfoComm 2022, we're passing a critical milestone on the AIMS roadmap for open-standards-based media over IP. We're demonstrating the technical viability of IPMX in terms of multivendor interoperability, and that is pretty exciting! 

Also significant is the high level of industry support the demo signals. Leading manufacturers are building IPMX support into their products, and more companies are continually joining those ranks as we move toward a more flexible, dynamic, IP-based future for pro AV.

Demo partners include Arista Networks, Cisco Systems, intoPix SA, Macnica, Matrox, Ross Video Limited, STAGETEC GmbH, and many others.

IPMX implements a standards-based approach based on SMPTE ST 2110, with features and capabilities that target the specific needs of the pro AV industry. In addition to simplifying implementation of SMPTE ST 2110 and ensuring interoperability for AV-over-IP systems, IPMX incorporates other features tailored to pro AV installations. These features include AMWA NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for discovery, registration, and connection management, as well as specifications for copy protection and security.

We’re celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2022, with most of those years spent delivering AV-over-IP distribution solutions. Our design philosophy is to respect the investment that customers make in their AV systems with products that last and systems that can be upgraded or modified as new features arrive. Scalability and flexibility are key, as Just Add Power systems can be expanded as needed and have the features and abilities to solve system design problems that arise from facility layout, zone requirements, and the desire to wow. Those themes continue to guide the formation of our products, services, and partnerships, which attendees will see and experience at InfoComm. 

First up is our new, award-winning MaxColor 4K60 Series. It natively supports 4K60 in and out to allow end users to play Ultra HD video from the growing number of 4K sources and devices on the market. We released this product last year and people couldn’t wait for it to ship!

Our Warp Engine transmitter took home the best of show award at InfoComm 2021 in Orlando, and we’re excited to have it displayed in Las Vegas for anyone who didn’t have the opportunity to experience it. The latest specialized product in our 3G Ultra line, the Warp Engine can rotate video in 0.1-degree increments, to single screens or video walls, to allow screens to be mounted at any angle. The eye-catching displays that can be created with this product are limited only by the installer’s imagination.

Finally, we have the ST1 sound transceiver, an audio-only device that can serve as an input or an output. Integrators can add a stereo audio source to any Just Add Power system or extract stereo audio from an existing transmitter. With this one device, integrators can manipulate the audio signal in a multitude of ways to suit customer’s desires.

As professional AV’s largest interoperable ecosystem, the HDBaseT Alliance has long been committed to fostering an environment of greater flexibility and inclusiveness among our industry’s community. This has never been clearer than in recent years, as global supply-chain challenges have effectively brought into focus, especially for integrators and installers, the importance of access to brand-agnostic solutions that work together seamlessly. With an ecosystem of over 200 members, and thousands of products in the market supporting the HDBaseT standard, I am proud to say that each day HDBaseT is helping them skirt some of these obstacles, and all without sacrificing a single pixel on quality or reliability.

At the heart of our efforts to spearhead the ongoing advancement of this truly interoperable ecosystem is our Spec 3.0 of the HDBaseT standard. This latest generation supports the extension of fully uncompressed 4K@60Hz 4:4:4, audio, USB 2.0, 1Gb Ethernet, controls, and up to 100 watts of power—all over a single, standard, Category 6a cable—up to 100m/328ft. In just over 6 months since the first wave of HDBaseT 3.0 products made their debut on our booth’s signature Power Wall at InfoComm 2021, the number that will be displayed there at this year’s show has grown by over 200 percent—a true testament to the technology’s game-changing potential. Clearly, we are only scratching the surface of the market’s demand for the high-bandwidth, uncompressed, multimedia signal distribution with zero latency that only HDBaseT 3.0 can provide.

Heading into the second half of 2022, we are excited to continue providing our members with more opportunities for innovation, expanding the number of interoperable products for integrators and installers to choose from, and widening the array of real-world applications for professional AV, with greater capabilities than ever before.

VuWall’s latest TRx 3.2 release brings enhanced performance, usability and interoperability. This version also features a new plug-in to the Genetec Security Center for a seamlessly integrated solution that allows operators to visualize IP cameras on video walls with other content sources from a single easy-to-use platform. Looking forward, VuWall continues to focus on facilitating interoperability in the AV industry, already supporting SDVoE, IHSE, Matrox and NDI-compatible devices. Organizations expect to be able to grow their pool of IP equipment as their needs evolve while controlling their AV infrastructure from a single software platform. TRx is the only software platform that brings such flexibility to control a multi-brand environment with seamless compatibility.

The demand for multi-source, multi-video wall deployments is at an all-time high and continues to accelerate. After two years of being away, Epson is eager to be back at InfoComm to demonstrate our latest projection technology in person.
