The NAV E 522 enables USB-C as the primary connection point for modern AV spaces, allowing video, audio, USB data, and power to be delivered through one USB-C cable to a laptop or other USB-C source. This simplified host connection is ideal for collaboration and presentation environments where users need fast access to room displays, audio, and USB peripherals without multiple cables or adapters. The NAV E 522 also supports systems with multiple NAV SD 521 scaling decoders, enabling multiple remote USB devices attached at those endpoints to be routed back to a single NAV E 522 Host USB-C port.

Together, the NAV endpoints provide high-quality 4K/60 4:4:4 video, flexible audio, and USB 2.0 or HID extension. The Extron PURE3 codec delivers visually lossless video and advanced Extron Vector 4K scaling technology provides reliable scaling over standard 1 Gbps Ethernet networks.

Extron has expanded its FOX3 platform with FOX3 302 Series Dual HDMI Extenders. These fiber optic KVM extenders support dual-display workstations across a FOX3 system. Designed for secure, long-haul transmission of two independent HDMI video signals plus USB, stereo audio, control, and 3D sync signals over fiber optic cabling, the FOX3 302 Series delivers visually lossless image quality up to 4K/60 at 4:4:4. The new USB Extender xi Series from Extron is now available. The transmitter can be powered by the host computer or included power supply and provides USB peripheral emulation to enable trouble-free booting of a host computer that is not connected to a keyboard or mouse. The integration combines direct playback on the display with remote monitoring and control through Sony's on-device REST API, while Sony's Device Provisioning Tool simplifies initial setup. Powersoft Signs Agreement with HOLOPLOT for the Supply of Amplification Modules for a New Immersive Venue

Powersoft has signed a new agreement for the supply of amplification modules with HOLOPLOT for the development of a new immersive venue featuring advanced technology. The agreement builds on the collaboration between Powersoft and HOLOPLOT that began in 2019 and has already resulted in the supply of innovative amplification solutions for the audio system at Sphere in Las Vegas.

For this new project, Powersoft will contribute innovative audio systems for a venue that will represent the new frontier of entertainment, providing audiences with an immersive audio and video experience.

More specifically, the system consists of Powersoft’s compact, ultra-high-efficiency 16-channel amplifiers integrated into the HOLOPLOT X1 audio system. Renkus-Heinz Strengthens European Presence

Renkus-Heinz is expanding its European support infrastructure through a logistics partnership with More Logistics, a new company established by Dutch distributor More Distribution. Severtson Screens Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Severtson Screens is celebrating its 40^th anniversary in innovative projection screens for the home theater, commercial, Pro AV, and cinema markets.

“Severtson Corp. started in 1986, literally in our parents’ house,” explained Toby Severtson, Severtson president and CEO. “The company’s first job was with Arizona’s own Williams Air Force Base in response to the U.S. Air Force’s need to find both a quality optical coating and a uniform application process for the interior of their domed flight simulators.”

Working late each night in the family kitchen and backyard, Severtson founder Ron Severtson not only solved the technical problem of uniformly coating a domed surface, he also created a product that had the reflective properties the Air Force needed for its simulator program to be successful. Demand for Severtson’s product soon had the company working for large corporations and military organizations in more than 40 countries. In an effort to address the safety concerns of the day’s solvent-based optical coatings and remain competitive in the world market, Severtson continued to refine his formulas. His work led to the introduction of Severtson 3D optical coatings in 1988. By 1989, Severtson optical coatings were safer, more environmentally friendly water-based formulas.

In 2003, Severtson Corp. launched its own line of home theater/Pro AV screens with a basic fixed-frame screen. The company later expanded the line to include a screen for every need.

After a month of non-stop headline makers in the Pro AV world, last week was a bit tamer. There were no acquisitions or strategic hires of note... however, there were quite a few partnership and product enhancements to know.

Before we get to that news, Biamp announced the recipients of its 2026 Charitable Giving Grant Program. The initiative celebrates nonprofit organizations that align with the Biamp mission of harnessing audiovisual technology and creativity to enrich lives and strengthen communities.

This year's grant recipients include Youth Music Project; Art & Drama Centre Theatre (ACT); The Texas Supremacy of Music & Arts Conservatory (TSMAC); Ethos Music Center; and p:ear. Avocor, Korbyt Form Global Partnership

There's a new digital signage combo in town, as Avocor has formed a strategic partnership with Korbyt. It's the latest in a partnership drive from Avocor, an effort to establish itself in the enterprise, manufacturing, retail, and hospitality sectors. The collaboration strengthens both companies’ capacity to deliver a dynamic digital signage solution across markets.

Korbyt software has been validated on the recently launched Avocor B-Series, which debuted at ISE 2026 and marks Avocor’s move into the business and commercial digital signage display market. Customers already running Korbyt can add B-Series displays to an existing estate without changing platforms, as the Korbyt application can be installed directly on the display’s own Android 14 processor.

Capital One Arena Taps LG for Major Display Transformation

Monumental Sports & Entertainment named LG Electronics USA the official TV, commercial display, and appliance partner for the reimagined Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The partnership puts LG display technology behind some of the arena’s biggest visual upgrades, including exterior LED displays, interior LED and TV displays throughout the venue, displays across the new business and conference center, and the LG-powered “Visibowl." which will replace traditional concourse walls with more than 500 feet of immersive digital displays so fans can stay connected to the action as they move through the arena.

The MSE partnership with LG Electronics includes the “LG Collective," a new premium seating destination for Washington Wizards and Washing Capitals games debuting at the start of the 2026–27 season which will become a featured gathering place at the transformed Capital One Arena. Extron Adds Dynamic Images to Control Systems for Simplified Source Selection

Extron unveiled Dynamic Images, a new Extron control system capability. Extron user interfaces can now display low-frame-rate video directly from NAV Pro AV over IP systems, and soon, Quantum Ultra II videowall processor systems. Confidence preview content is delivered securely to the control interface; with no dedicated preview hardware required, making the feature a cost-effective addition to professional AV systems.

The Dynamic Images feature can also be used to automatically update graphical content on Extron user interfaces, such as logos and other changeable elements. Dynamic Images can retrieve JPEG, PNG, and animated GIF files from web sources and file servers, enabling interface graphics such as logos, channel icons, and status images to be updated without redeploying the GUI file. Dynamic Images is compatible with our latest generation of user interfaces, such as TLP Pro 35 Series touchpanels, Extron Control for Web, and the new Extron Control Pro App.

HIVE Integrates with Nemosphere Sensors and Controllers

HIVE Media Control has announced native integration with Nexmosphere, enabling its Beeblade media players to connect directly with Nexmosphere’s extensive range of sensors and controllers to create responsive, interactive media experiences.

Developed in response to demand from system integrators, the integration expands the options available for bringing interactivity into HIVE-powered installations, allowing physical actions and real-world data to trigger and influence digital content. Nexmosphere develops sensors and controls for interactive digital experiences, spanning technologies including presence and motion detection, RFID, touch and push buttons, object detection, Lift & Learn, weight sensing, and LiDAR.

Through the new integration, Nexmosphere sensors can connect with HIVE via USB or Ethernet, with data from multiple sensors available directly within HIVE’s Dataflow environment. HIVE supports Nexmosphere’s interface boxes and the majority of its sensor portfolio, giving integrators the flexibility to combine different forms of interaction within a single HIVE installation.

NVIDIA Synthetic Video Detector Now Integrates with Dalet Flex

Dalet and NVIDIA are bringing advanced synthetic content detection directly into media workflows. The new capabilities integrate NVIDIA AI models with Dalet Flex, enabling media organizations to identify potentially AI-generated images and video as content enters their operations and incorporate those insights into existing review, approval and governance processes.

The work builds on Dalet’s strategy to bring AI closer to the media itself, embedding intelligence directly into the infrastructure and workflows organizations already use to manage their content. By combining NVIDIA AI models with Dalet Flex and Dalet AI services, organizations can analyze content where their media resides, including on-premises and hybrid environments, while connecting detection insights directly to the operational workflows where decisions are made.

Nureva AI-Powered Room Assistant in Beta

Nureva is bringing AI-powered room intelligence to Nureva audio systems. Room Assistant brings natural language processing to Nureva Console, the device management and monitoring platform for Nureva audio systems, with an interface that helps IT teams interact with Nureva’s knowledge base through text-based chat. Teams managing Nureva devices are offered a faster, easier way to access information and get answers to product-related questions for more efficient room management.

This addition is an important step in the evolution of Nureva Console, moving it beyond cloud-based device management and monitoring to an agent-based intelligent platform for overseeing collaboration spaces. Together, Nureva Console and the Nureva App simplify the full device life cycle—from deployment and setup to daily use, remote management and ongoing support — helping IT teams deliver reliable audio experiences across meeting rooms, classrooms, training spaces and divisible rooms. Now in beta, Room Assistant draws from Nureva’s knowledge base. Further plans for Nureva Console include supporting IT teams with AI-powered room and device data, extending room intelligence into daily use and identifying any issues before they affect meetings and classes.

The first half of this decade reminded us that the quicker we can adapt, the better off we are. AV over IP-based systems aim to speed up this adaptability, making it easier for those charged with managing the tech to respond to how their organizations expand, contract, and evolve.

For Marcus Bengtsson, CTO at Original Syndicate, a communications infrastructure design and integration firm, systems designers should consider implementing an AVoIP backbone in every installation they oversee. He argued that it provides more flexibility, is more scalable, and (in many cases) less expensive than technology that runs on copper wires.

However, this isn’t a blanket argument. There are projects for which AVoIP may not be the best solution, not due to the technology, but because of the people charged with managing it.

“Traditional baseband video is relatively simple to understand: It’s very easy to troubleshoot, it’s very easy to install, and you know very easily when something is wrong,” Bengtsson explained. “The answer to whether AV over IP is a bad idea or a good idea is probably more down to what people in the organization will own the system long-term. Do they have the capabilities of actually troubleshooting or fixing a network that needs to be designed [for] AV over IP?”

Seth Warner, U.S. sales manager at PlexusAV, points to applications for auditoriums, classrooms, command and control centers, divisible spaces, enterprise campuses, houses of worship, training facilities—and any other environment in which sources and displays don’t reside in a single room—as ideal candidates for AVoIP. He said things get interesting when AV is considered part of the system infrastructure.

“Once AV becomes part of the network architecture, the system is no longer limited by fixed matrix switch sizes or rigid cable paths,” Warner noted. Instead, sources can be shared, and the reconfiguration of spaces, when necessary, is much easier. “A system can grow without tearing apart the original design.”

Like Bengtsson, Warner concedes that AVoIP isn’t always the best choice, especially for single-source, one-display spaces that don’t require remote management and won’t be expanding. “The mistake is assuming every AV problem needs a networked AV solution,” he explained. “Sometimes the smart design is the simplest design.” That said, Warner added that companies often miscalculate how quickly their needs will change or if they will eventually need to repurpose or even extend their capacity.

Networks and Segregation

Some applications require that sources move around from space to space; they’re not permanent fixtures in, say, one specific room. An AVoIP infrastructure makes this easy to manage, according to Joe da Silva, VP of marketing at Extron. “Regardless of the venue, configuring multiple CATx drops and network ports in a video VLAN enables simple reconfiguration of sources, encoders, decoders, displays, and spaces,” he said.

For example, both encoders and scaling decoders can live on mobile carts, with or without dedicated sources and displays, and be plugged into any RJ45 port residing on the AV network. He noted that the AES67 protocol lets AV pros achieve accurate, more efficient control and routing to amplifiers, DSPs, and speakers. Additionally, all of this can be setup for ease of use.

1G, 10G, 25G … 100G? While there may be a tendency to make things as fast as possible for upward scalability’s sake, adopting the most powerful tech is not always the wisest approach, according to Bengtsson. More powerful infrastructure may be more affordable, but its installation complexity remains significant—and it may be overkill.

Instead, AV designers and integrators should ask: What does this system need to do? And what audio/video quality is considered good enough? The trick is translating what this means to the end customer. "The challenge lies in quantifying quality in a sense that a person who isn’t necessarily equipped or skilled to do these things themselves has something to relate to,” Bengtsson said.

Brandon White, director of product development at Vanco International, explained that 10G systems are usually specified for larger systems or applications requiring low latency and/or higher resolutions, frame rates, and signal quality. However, there is a price: Switches, cabling, and general infrastructure tend to cost more.

“A 1G system is usually more cost effective and can be a very strong fit for many commercial AV applications,” White said. “Latency on 1G systems has also improved over time, with some solutions now offering very low latency compared to earlier generations.”

One of the first decisions AV designers, integrators, and their clients must make is whether to put AV assets on a converged AV/IT network or keep them separate. Leveraging an existing, converged network can save time as well as capital and operational expense, da Silva noted, but not all codecs behave well in a converged environment. He encourages AV pros to select purpose-built solutions, such as Extron’s PURE3 codec, which was specifically designed for AVoIP systems.

At Original Syndicate, Bengtsson advises segregating AV from IT, even if it does increase costs. He said it provides a clear delineation between who is responsible for what: The AV team oversees the AV communications network while IT oversees theirs, regardless of whether personnel are internal or outsourced. “If you can afford it, it’s always going to be beneficial from a performance point of view, from a long-term maintenance point of view and from an ownership point of view,” he added.

Scalability Considerations

Scalability Considerations Symetrix CEO Mark Graham argues that defining scalability can’t be reduced to counting endpoints. When a system is truly scalable, he explained, it can be expanded without major redesigns, performance compromises, more complex management requirements, and prohibitive costs.

While capacity scaling may make it easier to plan for the future, especially for large projects, organizations risk paying for capacity that they don’t use and locking themselves into an inflexible environment. On the other hand, incremental scaling by design is more adaptable to change, and better suited for phased deployments.

Graham noted that Symetrix’s Cognio platform was built with the latter in mind. “It allows systems to start with what is needed today and expand intelligently over time as requirements become clearer,” he said. “For AV professionals, that matters because most customers cannot define their ultimate system size on day one.”

While scalability should be considered for almost every project, Graham points out that AVoIP platforms should be equally “graceful” in their ability to scale up and scale down. He says this is important in IT-centric environments featuring centralized environments utilizing all-in -one solutions and room kits rather than more bespoke architectures.

“A system that’s truly scalable and incremental is going to completely remove the legacy boundary conditions that have kept those systems out of [these spaces] because they were just too expensive and complex to complete with a room kit,” Graham added. “You can come in and more specifically address customer needs very cost effectively and deliver higher performance.”

At PlexusAV, Warner acknowledged that when designed properly, software-driven AV significantly improves scalability—provided it is open. “If the software layer is closed, overly proprietary, difficult to integrate, or dependent on one manufacturer’s ecosystem, then scalability becomes conditional,” he argued.

While this may not matter right away, it complicates things for customers when they wish to make adjustments down the road. “[A software-driven system] should make the customer’s infrastructure more useful, more transparent, and more adaptable," Warner said. "The best software layer is not just a control surface; it is a bridge between AV, IT, operations, and future applications."

Changing the Matrix Switching Mindset

Designing for AV over IP requires AV professionals who grew up with traditional matrix switchers to think a bit differently. While they may be used to confining systems to a fixed number of inputs and outputs, AVoIP removes these limits. Extron’s Joe da Silva said the company’s NAV System is an example of this latter approach.

“Even with modular matrix products, you build the inputs and outputs in groups, up to the physical limitation of the matrix frame,” da Silva noted. “While these modular matrix configurations afford flexibility and higher bandwidth for switching uncompressed video signals, the tradeoff is understanding the maximum number of inputs and outputs a system might need over its lifetime.

“AV over IP system design trades this design mentality for one where you can add any number of inputs or outputs to a system by adding encoders or decoders,” he continued. “You can even scale your network switch infrastructure if you need more ports over time, delivering virtually unlimited scalability and range.”

Well, that was a whirlwind of a week in Pro AV headlines. Diversified has a new facility, Dalet has a new CEO, Extron enables 'exceptional energy savings,' and Follow-Me and OWC made acquisition news.

Golden Sea, known for its work in live entertainment technology, has acquired a majority stake in Follow-Me. Follow-Me retains its independent status, while gaining R&D resources and manufacturing capacity to develop and deliver the technological advancements live entertainment demands faster and more broadly.

The alignment of Follow-Me and Golden Sea will span the full production ecosystem of live entertainment, from touring, events, theater, broadcast, themed entertainment and permanent installations. It brings Golden Sea’s entertainment lighting technology expertise and Follow-Me’s intelligent performer tracking systems together. This combination of global reach and specialist depth will scale market penetration and accelerate growth, allowing Follow-Me to make its performer tracking systems accessible to new market segments and a broader range of users.

Elsewhere, Other World Computing (OWC) acquired OpenDrives. The addition of OpenDrives’ solutions expands OWC’s shared storage portfolio reach with the Jellyfish line into enterprise-scale data management, hybrid cloud orchestration, and edge workflows. OpenDrives’ Atlas data storage and management platform has been used by Hollywood studios, post-production houses, and live broadcast networks since 2011, recognized for reliably handling the low-latency, high-throughput performance required for complex, data-intensive creative environments.

In April 2026, the new OpenDrives Edge hybrid cloud-edge performance accelerator was announced, providing widely distributed teams working in edge locations “local speed” data access, without the high costs and complexity involved with traditional hybrid cloud workflows. Evolving customer requirements for infrastructure modernization and their need to bridge ever-expanding data silos, while reducing costs, led to the introduction of the Astraeus cloud-native data services platform, which was released in beta mode for early adopters in late 2025 and will have an updated release in 2027.

The MEP100 provides hardware-accelerated transport for SMPTE ST 2110 video, audio, and ancillary data, helping offload real-time media movement from the host CPU while maintaining low-latency, frame-accurate performance. Its dual 100GbE interfaces support substantially higher channel density than competing Mac-compatible 100GbE media I/O options, with up to 32 uncompressed HD video streams in and 32 out, depending on format, when installed in a supported Mac Studio configuration.

Softron's M|8IP bundle initially combines the MEP100 with eight MovieRecorder 5 licenses for multichannel ingest. Customers can select firmware for uncompressed ST 2110-20 operation or ST 2110-22 workflows that support Apple ProRes compression. The latter enables compressed and uncompressed video on the same platform and supports high-resolution formats including 8K live immersive video, subject to the selected Mac and connectivity configuration. That flexibility addresses both established broadcast applications and a new generation of experiential production, such as the live immersive sports broadcasts featured by Major League Baseball this fall.

Magewell, Zixi Collaborate on Live Video Over IP Workflow

Zixi and Magewell expanded its collaboration that gives broadcasters and streaming providers a reliable, end-to-end path for live video contribution over public and hybrid IP networks. As live sports, events, and news increasingly move to IP-based contribution, broadcasters need to move pristine video across networks they don't control, without the cost and rigidity of dedicated circuits or satellite. The Magewell and Zixi solution addresses that need by combining compact, cost-effective encoding at the source with error-resilient transport across the last mile and beyond.

Magewell's Ultra Encode family, including the Ultra Encode Plus and Ultra Encode AIO models, encodes HDMI and SDI sources in H.264 or HEVC and streams natively using the Zixi Protocol. Once in flight, the Zixi Protocol dynamically compensates for packet loss, jitter, and latency to protect video quality across unmanaged and congested networks. The encoders can be provisioned and monitored directly from Zixi ZEN Master, giving operators centralized orchestration, real-time telemetry and alerting across large fleets of contribution endpoints.

The integration works end to end. On the receive side, Magewell's Pro Convert IP decoders take incoming Zixi streams and convert them back to SDI or HDMI for monitoring, production and playout, all manageable from ZEN Master. The result is a workflow that scales from a single flypack to hundreds of endpoints. Operators can encode affordably at the source, deliver reliably over any IP network, decode cost-effectively at the destination, and manage the entire estate from a single control plane.

NDI, NVIDIA Partners for Media Production and Distribution

NDI has partnered with NVIDIA AI-powered workflows to enable broadcasters with the ability to create and distribute multilingual content in real-time. Combining NDI-native connectivity with NVIDIA AI for Media, including the NVIDIA LipSync NIM microservice, makes content immediately accessible to audiences in their preferred language, from live events and breaking news to sports, entertainment and corporate communications.

The initiative addresses one of the industry's most significant challenges: the cost and complexity of delivering content across multiple languages. Traditionally, broadcasters create, transport and distribute separate versions of the same content, requiring multiple production, bandwidth and infrastructure for each language, making it difficult to deliver localized content in real-time.

NDI and NVIDIA are working to change that by enabling multiple language experiences to be generated from a common media stream. For broadcasters, this means the same source content can be adapted for different audiences without replicating production operations for every language.

AtlasIED Enhances GLOBALCOM Ecosystem with GCK17

AtlasIED has released GCK17, the latest software head-end powering the GLOBALCOM ecosystem. The update introduces two major advancements for large-scale paging and communication systems: a two-way integration with Sittig Technologies’ PAXGuide platform and Dante signal transport improvements.

The new Sittig PAXGuide integration is particularly advantageous for airports, as it provides gate agents with real-time flight information, including details about gates, airlines, and delays, directly through the touchscreen of the GLOBALCOM microphone station. Boarding calls and manual pages initiated from the GCK microphone station can sync back to PAXGuide, ensuring consistent paging activity throughout the airport. The integration supports Sittig's multilingual and accessibility features.

GCK17 also replaces CobraNet’s signal routing with Dante-based routing, eliminating the need for legacy network hardware in systems that previously relied on CobraNet or CobraNet-to-Dante bridges. This advancement enables more robust and efficient signal transmission, resulting in faster announcement triggering. It bridges previously isolated networks, unlocking seamless communication between systems. AtlasIED has communicated an end-of-life plan for CobraNet products, and GCK17 offers a clear and efficient system-wide upgrade path to Dante. Customers still using the CobraNet legacy system can contact AtlasIED for assistance in designing an upgrade plan.

ENCO Unveils Multilingual Live Captioning Advances and Voice Translation

ENCO has unveiled new multilingual capabilities for its enCaption live captioning systems. The enhancements include automatic language detection and captioning for live multilingual broadcasts and presentations. ENCO’s new multilingual captioning capability automatically detects changes in spoken language and generates captions in the appropriate language in real time, without requiring operators to manually switch languages or reconfigure the system. The technology supports any combination across 50 languages, creating a fluid captioning experience as different speakers and languages move in and out of a live program or presentation.

That brings important new flexibility to multilingual television and AV environments. A live news or sports program, for example, may move naturally between English and Spanish speakers, while an international panel discussion may include participants speaking French, German and other languages. enCaption automatically recognizes each language as it is spoken and captions the content in that same language, allowing the captioning workflow to follow the conversation without operator intervention.

Mo-Sys Completes Reorganization

Mo-Sys has completed a business restructuring, which has included a move to a new facility in Canada Water. A key part of the new organization is the promotion of Selin Kemal to the new role of managing director. The move to the Canada Water building has allowed Mo-Sys to fulfill a long-held ambition, the creation of a hybrid presentation theatre using the best of modern technology, including Mo-Sys robotics and virtual production, as a flexible host venue. The flagship space, which has room for up to 120 delegates as well as comprehensive production equipment will be used for high-impact corporate communications, live events and global broadcast.

When Major League Soccer (MLS) began planning a new global headquarters in the heart of New York City, the goal was never just to build a bigger office. With the league expanding rapidly, as evidenced by early 2026 viewership up 62% year over year and 4.8 million fans attending matches through the first three months of this year's season, MLS leadership wanted a space that showcased how far the league has come while supporting its surging growth.

"It was a little bit about the right time and right place with the growth of the league,” said John Sullivan, CIO for MLS.

Through an ambitious integration of AV technology, live data, and innovative architecture, the new headquarters fosters collaboration among MLS employees, both in-office and in the field, and delivers unique experiences for visitors while using the footprint as a branding touchpoint for MLS.

"We need a place that feels like home, feels like soccer," added Sullivan. "It needs to be soccer-centric. We need collaboration. We need space for a lot of people and future-proofing growth. Technology needs to be seamlessly integrated throughout the space."

Collaboration and Innovation

The 126,000-square-foot space spans two floors and features more than 80 meeting and collaboration spaces, a Match Day Center Operations Hub, interactive digital environments, and a workplace that adopts an “office as a stadium” approach. That's evident in the tunnel-inspired entrance, the DetaiLED three-panel LED installation behind the reception desk, and ribbon LED displays that wrap around the central staircase spanning the two floors, similar to those that wrap around sports stadiums and arenas. These displays feature matchup scores and information, league news, and other MLS-branded content.

DetaiLED also supplied a large-format LED wall adjacent to the reception area, internally known as the Cup Wall. The wall displays rotating themed content celebrating MLS competitions, clubs, players, and pivotal league moments.

Another notable space is the Match Day Center Operations Hub, which serves as a centralized command center for the league. It features multiple displays that allow league staff to monitor and support all MLS operations by bringing together league operations, real-time sports data, and live camera feeds in a single location.

"We're managing games at the league level, but looking at games across the league, and they're able to manage them from one central location,” added Sullivan. The space is also equipped with Zoom capabilities, so if a venue has an issue, they can dial directly into a Zoom that is always on to get immediate support.

To bring this vision to life, MLS collaborated with technology consultant and experience designer TAD, integrator TRITECH, and immersive experience platform provider Zenapptic.ai.

TAD was brought on board due to its extensive experience designing headquarters for professional sports organizations and expertise in content design and immersive storytelling. "They knew that we had a strong background in conference spaces, but this project required bringing a sense of energy, gamesmanship, and the future of MLS through digital storytelling and an overarching technology experience, which made it the perfect job for us," said James Utterback, partner at TAD.

TAD’s approach is not to view the AV technology as a collection of independent elements, but to see that every component can work together to strengthen the league’s brand identity within the space. "TAD played a major role in designing the AV and kind of connecting the AV with the content plan and making sure the physical worked with the digital in a really kind of clean way,” added Sullivan.

This approach extended throughout the headquarters, with conference rooms, executive spaces, public gathering areas, and collaboration environments all emphasizing the league’s brand identity while remaining highly functional. "Every display is an opportunity to do both," Utterback explained, referring to balancing collaboration with storytelling.

Vision to Integration

TRITECH was engaged as the integration partner to manage the various technology components while ensuring a consistent user experience. But TRITECH’s role extended beyond basic installation.

"TRITECH's role spanned the lifecycle of the project," said Mark Vitt, EVP at TRITECH. "It included systems engineering, infrastructure adaptation, procurement and project management, on-site installation and hardware integration, long-term maintenance, and continuing operational support."

The large-scale technology ecosystem throughout the headquarters includes Apple TV, Neat conferencing bars, Samsung commercial displays, DetaiLED displays, Sharp NEC video walls, Shure ceiling microphones, BrightSign media players, and additional equipment from Q-SYS, AVPro Edge, Extron, Lightware, NETGEAR, and Yealink.

A consistent experience was prioritized, regardless of room size or function. This philosophy carried over into the integration. "Systems are programmed to respond identically, regardless of room type," Vitt explained. "For example, the rate of audio volume on the touchpanel is the same whether in a large, multi-purpose room or in a small conference room. Speaker, camera, microphone, and display placement are similar or identical within each room." This provides a standardized interface that reduces training time and supports functionality within these spaces.

As the technology was being installed, the team needed to solve several sophisticated engineering challenges, with three of the most challenging occurring at the Boardroom, Stadium Rings, and Match Day Center Operations Hub. "The Boardroom contains voice lift, auto framing, a large video wall, and a simple user control system," Vitt said. "Multi-use spaces with simple GUIs can be complex at times."

For the Stadium Rings, extensive coordination was required among multiple trades, given the location across multiple floors and the mirrored ceiling. Unlike a conventional video wall, the Stadium Rings had to be built into the architecture, and careful consideration was required to ensure precise alignment and proper sightlines. Given the mirrored ceiling, careful attention had to be paid to reflections and display positioning to ensure a proper viewing experience.

TAD and TRITECH also considered future-proofing the space, with TRITECH sharing best practices from its engineering and installation teams, including additional infrastructure beyond project requirements. "TRITECH had the foresight to add additional category cable in critical places, although unspecified and at no cost to MLS,” Vitt added.

Integrated Content

For immersive content, Zenapptic.ai was brought in to help integrate content from multiple MLS sources, enabling visuals to update automatically throughout the network. The system continuously refreshes league information, rosters, schedules, branding, and other content across headquarters.

"We were tied into four, five or six different sources of content controlled by MLS," said Dave Fitzgerald, head of business development at Zenapptic.ai. "Somebody could have been traded from Denver to Chicago overnight, and that would be reflected ... almost immediately as soon as they made the update."

Fitzgerald estimates that 80-90% of the content is real time, with only welcome messaging and targeted campaign takeovers using scheduled content.

The framework relies on reusable templates populated with existing league data rather than requiring new creative for each update. "All of the concepts we put forth were drawing on the vast databases of information that they're already putting out," Utterback explained.

And because MLS owns all the underlying data, the league can easily control the content itself. "They have a very easy interface to be able to drag and drop new information and link new data up to any of the screens that are in the facility,” said Fitzgerald.

For MLS, the success of this new headquarters, now and in the future, won’t be measured by the number of displays or the volume of data flowing throughout the building. The most important factor is how employees engage with it on a daily basis.

The guiding principle throughout the project was ensuring that everything works seamlessly together. "You want the technology to become invisible. That's when you know technology works," Sullivan said. "The biggest thing is that it all just works. And that makes me proud."

Supporting resolutions up to 8K/60 and ultra-wide 5K at data rates up to 40.1 Gbps, this advanced switcher is ideal for applications such as Microsoft Teams Front Row systems.

Two independent AV systems, each centered on an Extron DTP CrossPoint matrix switcher, provide reliable routing of video and audio between spaces while allowing separate operation and controlled interconnection for live demonstrations and collaboration. The result is a flexible, standards-based AV environment that enables staff to view procedures in real time, communicate across rooms, and record sessions for later review.

“Extron allowed us to implement a robust yet flexible control system to give medical staff access to a wide range of AV technology,” said Nick Rogers, CTS programming and commissioning agent. “Extron excelled with a wide range of control drivers that allow simplified control and programming of third party devices such as conferencing codecs, microphones, displays, and PTZ cameras.”

Lubbock County needed clear audio and video between autopsy rooms, the special autopsy space, the viewing room, and the training conference room. Each space had different routing needs. The system had to send signals only to selected rooms. Staff wanted to see procedures in real time, record sessions, and review material without delays. They also needed simple controls for switching and monitoring.

The new facility introduced two separate AV environments with different roles. One covered the autopsy, observation, and circulation spaces, while the other served the training conference room. The county needed both to operate independently, yet still support direct communication between locations. A routing method was required to connect these systems without merging them.

Coordination with the IT department was important. The training room had to work with the county’s Cisco Webex Codec. This required careful planning. The codec needed to integrate with touchpanels, cameras, microphones, and local device inputs. Staff training also mattered. The system offered many options, so users needed to understand each function.

The system uses Extron DTP HDMI transmitters and receivers for signal extension, along with SMP 352 dual channel recorders to capture live procedures for documentation and training. A dedicated AV system in the training conference room integrates an Extron ShareLink Pro system for wired and wireless content sharing and connects to a Cisco Webex codec for real-time communication with the autopsy suite. Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanels and an IPCP Pro 255Q xi control processor provide intuitive system control, enabling staff to manage routing, camera feeds, audio, and recording with ease. The completed installation delivers a modern AV infrastructure that supports medical training, case review, and day-to-day operational needs while ensuring reliable, clear communication throughout the facility.

The county now has an AV environment that fits the clinical demands of the building. It supports training, case review, and communication. With their system design, and use of Extron technologies, the Moyers Group helped the medical examiner move from an aging facility to a modern space with reliable AV tools across all rooms.

In an ongoing effort to improve situational awareness during active incidents, accelerate emergency response, and strengthen investigative capabilities, a growing number of law enforcement agencies across the United States are investing in real-time crime centers (RTCCs). These centralized operations hubs, now serving communities ranging from large metropolitan areas to small municipalities, are redefining how police departments manage information, coordinate resources, and respond to unfolding events.

Regardless of size or budget, the core mission of every RTCC remains the same: Improve public safety by reducing response times, increasing operational efficiency, and enabling officers to make better‑informed decisions in real time. According to the National Real‑Time Crime Center Association, more than 300 RTCCs are currently in operation nationwide, with a reported 148% increase in adoption of centralized monitoring technologies between 2020-2024.

At its core, an RTCC is a centralized, technology‑driven hub within a police department that aggregates and analyzes live data feeds to provide immediate, actionable intelligence to officers in the field. These feeds typically include surveillance cameras, 911 call data, license plate readers (LPRs), body‑worn cameras, drone footage, and other sensor‑based systems. In many cases, this information can be shared across jurisdictions or accessed remotely, extending the reach of the center well beyond a single physical location.

By consolidating disparate sources of data into a single operational picture, RTCCs allow analysts and dispatchers to monitor incidents as they unfold, identify suspects more quickly, and relay critical information directly to responding officers. This real‑time visibility has proven invaluable during high‑risk incidents, major crimes, and large‑scale public events, where seconds can make a measurable difference.

Big City Benchmark

One of the earliest and most advanced examples of an RTCC is operated by the New York City Police Department. Launched in 2005, the city’s multi‑million‑dollar RTCC was among the first of its kind in the nation and remains a benchmark for large‑scale deployments.

Operating 24/7, the center provides data‑driven support to officers across all 77 precincts serving a population of approximately 8.5 million residents. Thousands of surveillance cameras feed into the system, along with facial recognition tools, LPRs, gunshot detection sensors, and social media analysis platforms. Together, these technologies enable analysts to generate instant intelligence for detectives and officers at crime scenes.

A key component of the NYC RTCC is the Domain Awareness System (DAS), a Microsoft‑developed platform that integrates CCTV cameras, radiological sensors, and other data sources into a unified interface. DAS applies artificial intelligence to tasks such as facial recognition, predictive analytics, and gunshot detection—using acoustic sensors commonly known as ShotSpotter—to help locate incidents quickly and accurately. Officers in the field can access DAS and 911 data through handheld devices, ensuring that intelligence reaches decision makers without delay.

Smaller Success

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the Warner Robins Police Department in Georgia, which serves a community of approximately 90,000 residents. The city unveiled its own RTCC at the Law Enforcement Center, creating a modern hub for technology‑driven policing tailored to a mid‑sized municipality.

Staffed by two to three personnel from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day, the 900-square-foot center integrates live traffic cameras, LPRs, public safety databases, and communication systems to support coordinated responses to incidents as they occur.

“We looked at how we could improve our operations,” said Captain Eric Gossman. “And we identified a shortcoming of utilizing technology to improve our workflow.”

Inspired by a visit to Georgia Tech’s operations center, Gossman recognized the potential of centralized monitoring to transform how the department handled critical situations. The department partnered with Solutionz, under the supervision of senior account manager Heather Kireta, to bring the concept to life.

The project involved approximately $257,000 in renovations and technology upgrades, including the installation of Haivision Command 360 video wall solution featuring a large, central LG LCD display. Two staffed workstations equipped with desktop monitors sit in front of the wall, and multiple BYOD inputs are available for flexibility.

“With the Haivision system we can view up to 16 4K streams of high‑resolution video at the same time,” Gossman explained. “At a desktop, I might only be able to monitor two streams. This allows us to see everything at once. For an agency of our size, it’s perfect.”

Measurable Improvements

Since the RTCC became operational, Warner Robins has seen measurable improvements in response times and officer safety. By providing officers with greater awareness of what they may encounter before arriving on scene, the center has helped reduce uncertainty during critical calls.

“We’ve had two homicides that the center helped close that might not have been resolved as quickly otherwise,” Gossman said. “We’re now looking to integrate Drone as First Responder (DFR) technology, which will be operated from this center. At that point, we’ll be running 24/7.”

According to Kireta, once the project was approved, implementation took approximately three months after construction was completed. The scope included running nearly 2,000 feet of Cat 6 cabling to connect the RTCC to the department’s central IT closet, installing the video wall, and deploying two 24/7-rated desks provided by Fountainhead Control Rooms, with fully networked personal computers and videoconferencing capabilities.

“The department wanted multiple wall displays where operators could view different content simultaneously,” Kireta explained. “We designed a system that brought all those feeds together and significantly improved their ability to respond to incidents.”

The Haivision Command 360 platform’s software and hardware components can connect to cable TV boxes, encoders, decoders, and other sources, allowing disparate feeds to be managed through a single interface. Operators can drag, drop, and manipulate content on the video wall with ease, while built‑in KVM functionality enables seamless control of multiple systems. LG LCD displays with ultra‑thin bezels were selected to create a clean, continuous video wall appearance.

Integration and Infrastructure

As RTCC adoption accelerates, manufacturers of control room technologies are developing solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of public safety environments. For example, RGB Spectrum offers a portfolio of multiview and control technologies tailored to operations centers. According to Dan Marcus, VP of business development, the RTCC market has expanded far beyond its early adopters.

“It used to be that large cities were the first to deploy crime centers,” Marcus said. “Now we’re seeing them everywhere. They’re evolving alongside technologies like drones, wearable cameras, and mobile devices that support first responders.”

RGB’s offerings include the Zio video over IP platform, video wall processors, KVM over IP systems, and its IPX Flyaway Kit for portable command and control applications. What differentiates the company’s approach, Marcus explained, is tight integration.

“The multiview processor is part of the matrix,” he explained. “There aren’t external boxes converting IP streams back into HDMI. It’s a hybrid IP solution that can also accept baseband inputs, with all processing handled within the Zio platform.”

This hybrid approach allows operators to manage multiple local inputs with minimal latency, an essential requirement for real‑time monitoring of video sources at different resolutions. “A lot of times, it’s a trade‑off between fidelity and latency,” Marcus added. “Lower latency generally requires more bandwidth, so agencies must decide how important video quality is to their mission.”

Redundancy and Reliability

Another major player in the RTCC space is Extron. In 2025, the company worked with systems integrator North Carolina Sound to upgrade the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center in Bolivia, NC. The project transformed an existing call center into a modern RTCC serving as the primary link between the public and emergency services.

While the original AV system was functional, it lacked redundancy, meaning a single component failure could bring operations to a halt. The upgraded system was designed to deliver optimal signal integrity, true redundancy, and failsafe operation for the center’s 911 workstations, centralized dispatch system, and specialized communications equipment.

Operators manage emergency calls through a computer‑aided dispatch system, with sources displayed on a Planar Clarity G2 video wall, individual workstations, and an adjacent conference room. Extron’s XTP modular matrix system provides centralized switching and distribution, while the NAV Pro AV over IP system links the 911 center with a conference room and a backup emergency operations center.

“The key to an efficient control room workflow is the harmonious integration of every system element,” said Joe da Silva, Extron VP of marketing. “Our goal is always to ensure a flawless operational experience for the end user.”

Monitoring the Situation

Modern RTCCs centers are typically built around a combination of dvLED and LCD video wall systems, which are supported by large-format displays and operator desktop monitors. Touch-enabled displays that support interactive workflows, annotation, and real-time collaboration are also widely used at operator positions to enhance control, navigation, and user interaction with critical systems.

“Direct-view LED is rapidly becoming the preferred solution for primary visualization walls due to its seamless design, high brightness, and scalability,” said Greg Fechner, sales director for state and local government at Planar. “These attributes allow agencies to display multiple data sources clearly across large environments where visibility from any position in the room is critical. LCD video walls remain a strong option, particularly in applications requiring very high pixel density or where budget considerations are a factor.”

Since its inception, the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) has used Planar’s Clarity Matrix LCD video wall system. As the number of integrated camera systems grew, and additional technologies and data sources were added, the department upgraded to a nearly 36x7-foot Clarity Matrix G3.

The system serves as the central visualization platform, supporting monitoring of thousands of live camera feeds. This includes fixed cameras, body cameras, and other real-time data sources, providing officers and analysts with a unified operational picture. When an incident is not in progress, the video wall serves as a collaborative tool that supports CPD’s ongoing intelligence work.

“At the end of the day, command centers require a complete ecosystem of display technologies that perform without compromise,” said Fechner. “Planar delivers that ecosystem with the reliability, clarity, and long-term support these mission-critical environments demand, while also helping agencies standardize on a single manufacturer to simplify deployment, streamline support, and ensure consistency across their operations.”

Whether deployed in a city of millions or a town of fewer than 100,000 residents, RTCCs have proven their value for modern policing. As AI, facial recognition, drones, and predictive analytics continue to mature, these centers will become even more capable and effective.

At Warner Robins, the results are already clear. “We always try to stay one step ahead of criminals,” Gossman said. “This crime center has helped reduce our response‑to‑call times and close cases faster. It’s been a big win for our department—and I’m sure for many others across the country as well.”

The timeline for this project presented immediate constraints. Because AV Structural was engaged after construction was already underway, both the design and installation phases were significantly compressed. With framing, drywall, and electrical work already progressing, access to key rooms was delayed and often fragmented. This required the AV team to sequence installation around other trades, often working in off-hours or shifting focus room by room based on availability. Product procurement had to be executed in parallel with system design and coordination, demanding accurate development of the bill of materials and fast internal approvals.

In the MRI suite, an unforeseen conflict required a full relocation of AV conduit and terminations to accommodate DMX-controlled lighting systems. The design team responded by rerouting feeds and updating signal pathways without delaying construction. Amid these changes, AV Structural maintained strict standards for physical infrastructure. All cable pulls were labeled, terminated to 568B standards, and tested in advance of rack placement. Audio zones were mapped using a uniform 70V topology to simplify distribution, reduce amplifier count, and support long-term scalability.

With student safety a top priority, Extron and Raptor Technologies worked with MVUSD to integrate the public address functions of GlobalViewer Campus Communication Suite (GVCCS) with the emergency alert generation functions of Raptor Connect to deliver Emergency Management System (EMS) instructions.

In the event of an emergency, alerts initiated by school personnel using the Raptor system automatically initiate pre-planned audible alerts developed and approved by the district and stored as public address announcement and bell presets within GVCCS. Extron recently introduced its new NetPA Ultra FX Series. These eight and four-channel configurable output audio power amplifiers include Dante connectivity and audio DSP. Opened to the public in 2004, As-Syafaah Mosque in Sembawang, Singapore has completed a renovation to modernize video distribution across its four-story facility. The upgrade streamlines daily operations throughout the main prayer halls, women’s prayer area, 17 classrooms, and a basement overflow space. It also improves streaming and recording for Friday prayers to accommodate a growing congregation and ensure a more inclusive worship experience. All of this was completed within one month to avoid disrupting the mosque’s daily operations.

Streams are distributed to monitors throughout the mosque and recordings are accessible online. Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanels and IPCP Pro control processors provide intuitive system control for non-technical staff, including video layouts, picture-in-picture, PTZ camera control, routing, and audio preset switching.

Additionally, the team selected an Extron DXP HD 4K PLUS high-performance 4K/60 HDMI matrix switcher, DVS 605 scaler with seamless switching, DTP HD DA 4K 330 distribution amplifiers, and DTP HDMI 4K 330 transmitters and receivers to perform AV signal switching, scaling, and distribution over shielded twisted pair cable throughout the expansive mosque’s four levels.

The new installation at As-Syafaah has been very well received. Staff appreciate the user-friendly GUI, which they find highly intuitive, and report a significant improvement in the daily flow of operations. They also value the peace of mind that comes with Extron’s reliability and support.

Extron AV switching and control helped transform a Highland Community College (HCC) distance learning classroom into a dynamic esports hub. The HCC team envisioned a facility capable of hosting weekend-long tournaments with high schools in the local area. These tournaments would give students a hands-on experience competing in an esports environment. The room also needed to foster teamwork, collaboration, and a strong sense of community between players and coaches.

The presentation needed the capability to switch seamlessly between gaming stations and send the signals to large screen displays. To achieve this, the athletic director and coaches relied on Extron AV technologies to build a presentation system capable of 4K scaling while maintaining uninterrupted signal integrity.

For years, many felt that “good enough” in higher education classrooms meant a projector, a screen, and maybe a monitor. But "good enough” doesn’t cut it anymore. Amid enrollment pressures, rising costs, faculty adoption, and shifting expectations for hybrid learning, institutions are rethinking how they approach AV upgrades and installations.

“The baseline functionality of ‘good enough’ has increased and will likely continue to trend upwards,” said Ben Pickrel, president of CCS Presentation Systems. And that baseline of what you need in classrooms has clearly shifted since the pandemic.

“It’s gone from being a nice-to-have to being a need,” said Erin Maher-Moran, IT manager for classroom technology at Johns Hopkins University and chair of the Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA). This evolution has been key to changing what is “good enough,” and it’s clear that some of these investments and upgrades are becoming indispensable on campus.

Hybrid Is Not Optional

Based on the comments from the experts who spoke with SCN, hybrid is not optional on campuses. “The demand for hybrid teaching environments have forced schools to invest in a more robust technology package that includes multiple cameras and audio solutions in support of both in person learning and online video calls,” said Pickrel.

And it’s not just installing a single camera pointed at the professor, which is something we saw a lot of interest in early in the pandemic. It’s about understanding that hybrid isn’t just about broadcasting a class or lecture; it’s about engaging with students. “The goal is to make remote students feel like they are in the room, and that means showing and hearing both the professor and the students in the classroom,” Pickrel noted.

One way to address this has been to use multiple cameras that capture both the instructor and the students, along with microphones that support discussion-based learning. “Cameras and tracking systems are getting better, particularly with the implementation of AI," noted Troy Dale Powers, AV systems support lead at Northwestern University and vice chair of HETMA.

Lecture capture also extends the reach of classroom lectures, enabling institutions to reuse and share course content. “Video capability combined with lecture capture systems stretch resources, allowing a professor to teach from one classroom to multiple locations,” Pickrel explained. “More students attending the same class increases the overall tuition dollars without sacrificing the quality of the teaching, along with access to the recorded material.”

An Emphasis on Sound

Sound reinforcement in classrooms is also being treated as a priority and critical need rather than an afterthought as it was in the past. Those who choose to underinvest in classroom audio enhancements risk missing the mark, and students’ learning outcomes can suffer.

“Classroom voice amplification systems are essential to help schools meet the needs of students and instructors,” said Joe da Silva, VP of marketing at Extron. “By distributing sound evenly throughout the room, they ensure that every student hears the instructor’s voice clearly, no matter where they are seated. These professional-grade systems maximize speech intelligibility for students while also reducing vocal strain for instructors, allowing the freedom to move naturally around the classroom.”

Larger campuses are relying on standardization and consistency to support large-scale deployments across multiple rooms. Standardized systems streamline installation and maintenance for integrators, and faculty become more comfortable.

“Well-designed campus AV relies heavily on consistent user experiences from room to room,” da Silva added. “For faculty, a unified interface ensures that every room works the same, allowing instructors to walk in, start teaching, and not be distracted by the technology."

This also allows faculty to focus on delivering content without worrying about not being able to access it if they have trouble using the technology in the room. “The faculty want to be able to concentrate on their content delivery,” said Maher-Moran. “They don’t want to have to worry about walking into a space and having to be like, wait, what is this room like? They want to have the same user experience from room to room.”

This level of standardization also helps lighten the load for campus IT teams supporting hundreds of classrooms. It’s much easier to troubleshoot, in person or remotely, if the rooms are standardized from one to the next.

Touchpanel Importance

One of the most visible elements of the AV system is the control system touchpanel, which faculty frequently interact with directly. “With the interface having such a central role, the quality of the entire AV system is often judged by the experience the user has with the touchpanel,” said da Silva.

The latest and greatest technology—and how complex it is—doesn’t really matter to the faculty if the interface doesn’t make any sense to them. If the interface feels clunky, it will make the system seem unworkable and cause them to avoid engaging with it. “They don’t care how complex the room back end is,” Powers explained. “It doesn’t matter to them, as long as it makes sense on that little touchscreen and they can push a couple of simple buttons and make it work.”

On the flip side, many institutions learn the hard way what doesn’t work for modern classrooms. Complexity is clearly not synonymous with greater impact. Not every room needs every imaginable feature, and many institutions overspend on impressive technology that doesn’t align with needs or faculty comfort levels. Schools have to balance power with usability.

“The goal of any technology integration into a classroom setting is to enhance the learning experience for the students,” Pickrel said. “Proper design principles will balance the need for complex capabilities with an intuitive, easy-to-use control interface, allowing the professors to focus on teaching, not on the technology.”

Avoiding Misalignment

There has often been a misalignment between technology and pedagogy, but Maher-Moran noted that institutions are doing a better job through collaboration with instructional technologists. “It’s much better for us to work with the instructional designers and find out exactly how these instructors are going to be teaching,” she explained.

This also helps avoid a common problem of installing something and hoping people will just use it. The more a system requires support or cheat sheets to use, the less it will be used, and technology that isn’t used is just a wasted line item. That’s why faculty adoption is so critical—without it, even the best-designed systems will fail, even if they work perfectly.

Investing in training will boost instructor confidence and help them discuss elements they may be resistant to. You can also look for internal advocates who can help others use the technology. “Identifying ‘champions’ within the university is an extremely successful method to help drive adoption long after the initial training sessions are done,” added Pickrel.

Looking ahead, industry professionals see a focus on adaptable, flexible classroom design and an increasing reliance on AI integration. Maher-Moran noted that the use of AI will extend beyond its current applications, such as camera tracking, to include system monitoring and room health. She also highlighted that AI-powered learning tools are gaining traction. “Chat agents, AI chat agents are somewhere I think we’re going to see growth,” she predicted.

As it is in many industries, AI is where the next evolution of classroom technology is heading. Potential future applications we could see AI supporting range from syllabus-based Q&As to more complex classroom simulations. “With AI becoming so prevalent in everyday life, I think there’s going to be more of a push to utilize AI tools in classrooms and within our systems,” Maher-Moran said.

Powers agreed but offered a note of caution. “I think the problem is we don’t know what it’s going to look like,” he said. “The AI that we were talking about two years ago isn’t what we’re talking about today.”

Other recent enhancements include expanded user account support, now accommodating up to 50 login accounts with unique usernames and passwords at three access levels: Admin, Designer, and User. This makes it easier to manage large teams by defining who can configure systems, design layouts, or simply operate the video wall. In addition, Canvas capacity has been doubled from 10 to 20, enabling users to control up to 20 video walls with different resolutions and screen arrangements from a single Quantum Ultra or Quantum Ultra II system. Administrators can assign permissions and manage source access for each Canvas, ensuring secure and efficient operation across multiple video walls.

EMS–Quantum Ultra combines the freedom of wireless control with an easy-to-use tablet application operated with familiar finger gestures. These include drag and drop, pinch, zoom, swipe, and tap. It facilitates preset selection, window size and position, and other common tasks and can work in tandem with Extron Videowall Configuration Software (VCS) and a control system.

Extron has released its DTP3 T 322 D, a two-input wallplate transmitter that sends USB-C and HDMI video, USB data, embedded audio, power, and control up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CAT 6A cable. It can provide up to 100 watts of USB-C power delivery to charge the connected device when used with the Extron UPI 100 Power Inserter.

[Sustainability: How Far Has Pro AV Come?]

The DTP3 T 322 D supports video resolutions up to 4K/60 at 4:4:4 and is compliant with HDCP 2.3. All supported video signals are transported uncompressed to ensure maximum image quality and minimal latency. Integrator-friendly features include EDID Minder, automatic input switching, remote power capability, and bidirectional RS-232 extension for AV device control.

“The DTP3 T 322 D meets the need for more USB-C solutions that support video, data, and device charging over one cable,” said Casey Hall, chief marketing officer for Extron. “Its stylish wallplate form factor complements any decor while delivering HDMI and USB-C connectivity exactly where you need it.”

The transmitter supports long-distance transmission of HDMI 2.0b signals at data rates up to 18 Gbps, including HDR, Deep Color, 3D, and embedded HD lossless audio formats. Continuous DDC communication ensures reliable EDID and HDCP exchange between source and display for optimal system performance. The two-gang decorator-style wallplate design allows HDMI and USB-C input connections to be installed in walls, tables, lecterns, credenzas, and floor boxes.

Sustainability is not a new innovation in Pro AV. The industry has long strived to reduce its carbon footprint for a greener tomorrow, whether that be replacing packaging to more biodegradable products or advancing the longevity and recyclability of hardware solutions. There have been major advances in just a few years, but there is much work to be done.

Recently, SAVe has been front and center in the Pro AV sustainability revolution. Since its founding in 2022, the nonprofit has seen progress within the AV industry toward meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. "But let’s be honest," said Tim Alevizos, SAVe board member and co-chair of marketing and PR, "the scope of the challenge we’re facing is gigantic. If the 2030 SDGs are to be achieved, it’s going to take a concerted global effort that goes well beyond what we can achieve in the AV sector."

Whether it is events like the SAVe 2026 Global Conference (coming this October) or manufacturers making impactful changes, SAVe applauds incremental progress and efforts to reduce e-waste and longevity of products. However, as Alevizos explained, SAVe is a catalyst for change on a larger scale.

"To fulfill our mission, we need more volunteers—and, specifically, more leaders—to step up for the sake of future generations and, indeed, the planet itself," he noted. "Our advice is for people in our industry, and far outside it, to take action as individuals and as organizations, but not to step there: We need to act collectively in a broader sense, and that requires leaders who can inspire, educate, unite, and organize people and resources to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."

Here is how some companies are paving the way for reaching these goals.

'Ecofficient' and Paper Packaging

Extron has made sustainability a major focal point. Its Ecofficient initiative, developed in response to the sunsetting of the ENERGY STAR program for commercial AV devices, spotlights energy-efficient excellence across its entire AV product portfolio. It signals Extron’s ongoing commitment to reducing power consumption, lowering operating costs, and supporting global sustainability goals.

“At Extron, we’ve always believed that sustainability and performance go hand in hand," said Joe da Silva, VP of marketing, Extron. "Opportunities for sustainability and conservation are evaluated at every step of a product’s life, from power supply designs leveraging GaN [gallium nitrade] technology for cooler and more efficient operation, to shipping materials optimized for recyclability, to our product recycling program that minimizes landfill waste."

One way to reduce Pro AV's environmental footprint is about how the technology is delivered. Switching to eco-friendly packaging is big step, reducing shipping costs and providing much greener transport.

Lightware Visual Engineering, which has already reduced its carbon footprint by designing and manufacturing its solutions in a centralized headquarters, switched to all-paper packaging in the next step of its ESG strategy. The biodegradable, recyclable paper-only packaging will be used for Taurus UCX, Taurus TPX, Taurus TPN, OPTX, and OPTN products. Packaging is still secure, yet it offers plenty of benefits for a greener tomorrow.

Sustainable and Socially Responsible

Sustainability has long been a part of the PPDS philosophy. The display manufacturer was eco-conscious before it was trendy in Pro AV. PPDS focuses on low-energy solutions with long-lasting shelf life. For example, PPDS e-paper solutions, like the Philips Tableaux, save energy and maximize technology uses, further reducing a carbon footprint.

As the saying goes, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Last August, TPV Technology, the parent company behind PPDS as well as TP Vision, MMD Monitors and Displays, and AOC, earned the EcoVadis Platinum Medal. Founded in 2007, EcoVadis provides business ratings, having screened more than three million companies across 185 countries, awarding bronze, silver, gold, or platinum honors. The platinum recognition places TPV Technology in the top 1% globally as one of the most sustainable and socially responsible manufacturers in Pro AV.

Not long ago, Kinly's net-zero targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This achievement—which, per Kinly, made it the first global systems integrator to have the honor—validates the work the company has done towards achieving "net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050; reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 54.6% by 2033 from a 2023 base year, as well as scope 3 GHG emissions by 61.1% per EUR value added within the same timeframe," according to a recent release.

It isn't simply big displays and packaging that are focused on enhancing the carbon footprint. Last summer, L-Acoustics invested in French-based MagREEsource. Per the company's report on the partnership, it introduces a "breakthrough circular economy model for the professional audio industry" that focuses on magnet recycling and manufacturing technology.

There are many hands in the pot helping to stir a greener future in Pro AV. And that is exactly what SAVe's goal continues to be. "It won’t be easy," Alevizos admitted. "Systemic change is required. But there is strength in numbers, and we have the numbers on our side to create the groundswell necessary to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We won’t be satisfied until the potential of our movement for change is fully realized."

“The TLS 835M and TLS 1035M provide a scalable and intuitive scheduling solution that helps organizations better manage their spaces,” said Casey Hall, chief marketing officer for Extron. “By combining seamless integration with Extron Wayfinding, status indicators, and control systems, these panels make it easier than ever to view room availability, streamline scheduling, and optimize workspace utilization.”

The TLS 835M and TLS 1035M support simple installation and are designed for enterprise-grade security and performance. They offer reliable operation and an intuitive user experience that helps optimize any environment. The high-resolution capacitive IPS touchscreens with optically bonded Gorilla® Glass lens ensure enhanced brightness, wide viewing angles, and precise touch accuracy, while integrated red and green LED indicators provide clear, at-a-glance room status. Finally, PoE combines power and data into one cable, minimizing cable clutter and streamlining installation.

The University of Tennessee at Martin (UT Martin) transformed an underutilized campus computer store into a modernized esports room, creating a flexible, budget-conscious environment to support increasing educational interest in both casual gaming and competitive esports. To meet space and funding constraints while delivering strong AV infrastructure, UT Martin implemented an Extron-based system that routes gameplay and other content to large displays around the room and supports versatile streaming and room operation.

“This room is just the beginning,” said Jace Williams, AV system administrator at the university. “We are starting with an esports club with hopes to someday soon grow it into an esports team. The interest is already here and it’s an exciting time to be a part of this growing program.”

At the core of the installation is an Extron DTP CrossPoint 108 4K presentation matrix switcher, selected as the backbone for routing signals from multiple PCs, gaming consoles, and streaming setups to outputs throughout the room. An Extron TLP Pro 1220TG TouchLink Pro touchpanel works in conjunction with the matrix switcher's integrated control processor to provide intuitive AV system control. The system also includes a DTP2 R 211 Receiver with audio de-embedding. An Extron MGP 641 xi Multi-Window Processor is planned for integration as the system evolves, supporting an esports space designed for scalability.

Bell Bank is one of the largest family-owned banks in the United States, built on a culture of connection and community. Bell Tower, the company’s Fargo, North Dakota headquarters, is a 14-story, 105,000-square-foot facility that serves as the hub for the institution. As such, the Town Hall section of the corporate headquarters needed to reflect that central focus with a space that went beyond the traditional corporate model of a boardroom or meeting room.

Bell Bank envisioned a dynamic, multi-functional environment serving as a collaborative center for meetings and training sessions that can then transition seamlessly into a professional production space for high-level events such as receptions, presentations, and more.

To bring this vision to life, Bell Bank turned to FARBER Sound – Venue Transformation, leveraging a long-standing partnership built on a deep understanding of the bank’s operational culture. A project of this scope demanded a proven power control foundation. For FARBER, that meant incorporating LynTec into the project.

A Core Challenge

The core challenge was significant: the Town Hall needed to function simultaneously as a multi-purpose event space and a broadcast-capable facility. That dual mandate required integrating a wide range of disparate audio, video, and lighting (AVL) systems spanning everyday presentation gear, a professional mixing console and stage box network, multi-camera 4K capable video production infrastructure, architectural lighting, and a full complement of event and entertainment lighting fixtures. Each system category carries its own power requirements, startup dependencies, and operational profiles. The task was to unify all of those elements under a single, intelligent power control solution that could adapt automatically to whatever mode the room needed to be in, without placing the burden of technical management on the bank’s staff.

To address this, FARBER’s system designer, Cory Deming, specified a LynTec RPC-384 power control panel as the backbone of the entire AVL system. The RPC-384 manages sequenced power distribution across all AVL subsystems, ensuring every component powers on and off in the correct order based on the active room configuration. “We have been using LynTec products for decades and were confident this would be the correct product to handle the Town Hall requirements,” Deming said.

Beyond on-site performance, the RPC-384 also enables FARBER’s team to monitor system performance and handle the majority of troubleshooting remotely from their headquarters in Plymouth, Minnesota, reducing the need for on-site service calls and providing Bell Bank with a responsive support infrastructure.

Physical flexibility was built into every layer of the design as well: the stage was engineered in full, half, and quarter configurations, complete with an ADA-accessible ramp, with the entire assembly storable out of sight when not in use. The Chauvet Pro and GLP moving-head lighting fixtures can be repositioned into preset looks saved to the control system and executed on any touch panel in the room, eliminating the need for ladders or manual repositioning between events.

Working in close collaboration with the architectural team, Farber integrated multi-angled acoustic ceiling clouds to optimize sound diffusion while contributing to the visual identity of the space. A proscenium design and curtain system enable dynamic theatrical reveals and adaptable performance configurations, giving the room a range of presentation modes that would feel at home in a professional venue. Detailed EASE acoustic modeling guided targeted treatments to parallel walls and other reflective surfaces, improving speech intelligibility across all event types. The result is a room where under-the-hood complexity stays invisible, and the experience remains focused on the content.

“Bell Bank needed a space that could do two very different jobs without feeling like either one was a compromise," said Dave Farber, owner of FARBER. "The only way to make that work is to get the power architecture right from the start. Our experience working with LynTec products in other projects gave us the confidence that the RPC could handle an installation this complex.”

A Unified Solution

The RPC-384 provides the unified power control foundation that makes the dual-purpose room architecture practical. The production backbone it manages includes a Yamaha DM7-EX digital mixing console, a 20Gbit redundant fiber network supporting AVoIP, Dante, GreenGO, HiQnet, NDI, and sACN protocols, and a 12G SDI video infrastructure anchored by Panasonic 4K PTZ cameras, a FOR-A production switcher, and AJA matrix routing. The architectural and event lighting system centers on Chauvet Pro and GLP moving-head fixtures and wash units, all addressable and positionable from the room’s touch panels. The front-end interface throughout is an Extron control system, providing staff with a clean, intuitive surface for day-to-day operation regardless of what is running beneath it.

By interfacing the Extron control system directly with the LynTec RPC-384, FARBER turned power management into a background function. When a staff member taps a touch panel to configure the room, the RPC-384 sequences power to the appropriate equipment automatically. A simple presentation mode enables only the necessary audio and video components. A full Town Hall production spins up the complete system, including the control booth, only when dedicated technicians are on-site. Bank staff operate a professional-grade venue confidently, regardless of their technical background.

Introducing the new Extron DTP3 CrossPoint 42 USB. This compact 4x2 matrix switcher supports 10 Gbps data at the local USB-C host port and four-port hub, plus host switching and USB 2 data extension. It features USB-C and HDMI inputs, HDMI outputs, plus a DTP3 output for extending video, audio, data, and control signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CAT 6A cable. Additional advanced capabilities include 100-watt USB-C charging, audio de-embedding, seamless transition effects, and logo keying. Loaded with these features and more, the DTP3 CrossPoint 42 USB is built for collaboration, delivering fast and reliable AV switching in professional environments.

“Customers are increasingly looking for solutions that integrate USB switching and extension with video matrix capabilities,” said Casey Hall, chief marketing officer for Extron. “The DTP3 CrossPoint 42 USB addresses this need with a compact design that supports both, along with features like 4K scaling and USB-C charging to meet the requirements of today’s presentation environments.”

The DTP3 CrossPoint 42 USB provides extensive USB data capabilities to support UC collaboration environments. Up to three 10Gbps USB hosts may be switched to share devices and connect to the local 4-port USB hub, which features two USB 10Gbps and two USB 2 High-Speed connections. The switcher can also access remote USB devices connected to a DTP3 R 331 receiver. This enables cameras, microphones, mice, and keyboards installed in the room to be available to any connected USB host.

Extron also released its new XTP II 8K Fiber Series. Four new products are now available:

• XTP II FT 402 8K: Fiber optic transmitters for HDMI and DisplayPort
• XTP II FR 401 8K: Fiber optic receivers with local HDMI input
• XTP II CP 4i F 8K: Input boards with assignable XTP Fiber or HDMI inputs
• XTP II CP 4o SF 8K: Output boards with scaled fiber and local, unscaled HDMI outputs

These new boards leverage the 50 Gbps backplane of XTP II CrossPoint Series matrix switchers. The Extron XTP II 8K Fiber Series extends video, audio, bidirectional control, and 1 Gbps Ethernet over fiber optic cable. Each product is HDCP 2.3 compliant and supports HDMI 2.1 specification features that include data rates up to 40.1 Gbps, HDR, Deep Color up to 12-bit, 3D, and HD lossless audio formats. The XTP endpoints utilize two Extron technologies: EDID Minder and Key Minder. EDID Minder automatically manages EDID communication between sources and display devices. For signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices. For optimal image quality, the XTP II CP 4o SF 8K output board incorporates the Extron Vector 4K scaling engine that is specifically designed with innovative image upscaling and downscaling. Loaded with these features, capabilities, and more, the XTP II 8K Fiber Series further complements the capabilities of XTP Systems.

Highlands Development Center, part of Viet Thai International, one of Vietnam’s largest retail chain business groups and the parent company of Highlands Coffee, recently upgraded the AV systems in its Thu Duc City office in Ho Chi Minh City. The project modernized three training rooms and two meeting spaces to improve collaboration and make instruction easier. AV integrator Duy Hoa Phat Corporation designed and installed the new system, which uses Extron switching, audio processing, control, and room scheduling tools to support flexible room setups and simple, efficient operation for everyone.

[Day 2 AV/IT Interoperability: Extron]

“Our goal was to deliver a seamless AV experience that would support both the operational needs and long-term vision of Highlands Coffee," said Tran Chu Thuan, chief executive officer, Duy Hoa Phat Corporation. "Extron’s integrated solutions gave us the performance, reliability, and control flexibility we needed to make that possible.”

Highlands Development Center identified several core requirements. The company needed an advanced AV system with flexible control for training spaces, including the ability to seamlessly combine or divide rooms. Trainers required a straightforward interface to adjust audio, video, and microphone settings without technical support. For the third-floor meeting rooms, the priority was integration with room scheduling software to display real-time availability and facilitate on-the-spot bookings through user-friendly interfaces. Cost-efficiency, reliability, and ease of use were essential across all spaces, making Extron technologies a strategic match for the project.

On the second floor, three training rooms now share a centralized AV system that supports easy source switching, clear audio, and flexible room setups. The training facility includes two adaptable rooms and a dedicated cashier training room, all connected to a centralized AV system. Video routing is handled by the Extron DXP 88 HD 4K PLUSmatrix switcher, supporting 4K/60 video and HDCP 2.3 compliance. Audio processing is provided by the DMP 128 Plus C AT, a 12x8 ProDSP digital matrix processor featuring Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Dante audio networking. HDMI sources pass through an HAE 100 4K Plus audio de-embedder, extracting audio for delivery to the DSP system. System control is centralized via the IPCP Pro 350 xi control processor, which coordinates signal switching, audio settings, and room mode transitions. Each space includes a wall-mounted TLP Pro 725M TouchLink Pro touchpanel, providing direct control over AV functions, microphone levels, and room combinations through an intuitive interface.

The third floor adds room scheduling displays that show real-time availability and make booking more efficient, along with streamlined in-room audio control. Outside each meeting room, a TLS 725M 7-inch Room Scheduling Panel clearly presents room status, bookings, and availability. These panels are configured using Extron Room Agent software, allowing quick deployment without the need for intermediate servers or custom programming. Inside the meeting rooms, local audio processing is handled by the DMP 64 Plus C AT, a compact 6x4 DSP with AEC and Dante.

New Redundancy Features Provide Always‑On Dependability

Additionally, Extron has updated its VCA 100 Virtual Control Appliance with features that bring new capabilities to the platform. The new redundancy feature enables a backup VCA 100 to automatically take over in the event of a system failure, creating a high-availability virtual control system. Redundancy adds an additional layer of protection to this already reliable platform. In addition, enhanced alarm reporting sends email alerts to support staff when any condition triggers an alarm in the redundant system.

The Extron VCA 100 is a Virtual Control Appliance with integrated Virtual Control Processors (VCPs) designed for centralized AV control across the organization. The VCA 100 includes five VCPs, and organizations can use LinkLicenses to enable up to 30 IPCP Pro xi virtual control processors, providing scalable control for the enterprise without recurring licensing fees.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal FIRE) operates four technology-enhanced training centers located throughout California. They are used for year-round training in fire protection and prevention. The original and largest Cal FIRE Training Center (CFTC) is at their 420-acre campus near the city of Ione in Northern California, which has upgraded the audiovisual technology, adding Extron DTP systems with live annotation and intuitive AV control to support advanced instruction for firefighters and other personnel.

The training center, which was last remodeled in the 1990s, provides advanced instruction for firefighters and other personnel in fire prevention, emergency response, and law enforcement related to fires. Firefighters are trained using the latest techniques, tools, and equipment, which includes AV technology. Though not highly advanced, the existing AV system was plagued by performance issues and ongoing reliability concerns.

The current remodel saw refreshed interiors and an overhaul of the AV systems, with significantly enhanced technology and expanded capabilities. The CFTC consists of five large classrooms, various meeting spaces, and two auditoriums. Each room had to include an independent AV presentation system with high-performance AV switching, optimal image quality, dependable signal integrity over long distances, and user-friendly system control. The solution also had to be flexible and reliable. The plan called for use of the existing conduit, although cable pass-through space was limited; some rooms would require wall penetration.

The instructors had several requests for the new AV systems. A top request was to be able to annotate over video. Another wish was for augmented visibility, particularly to display a sand table from a variety of angles during live fire demonstrations.

Part of a broad remodel, AV systems were modernized across the campus. Each space now features an independent presentation system designed for high-performance switching, reliable long-distance signal transmission, clear image quality, and simple annotation tools, all supported by a new shielded twisted-pair cable infrastructure.

“The Extron Annotator makes system usage effortless and intuitive, empowering users to focus on creativity rather than complexity,” said Teo Nguyen, senior systems engineer/programmer at AV Structural, the integrator on the project. "Extron control systems, with provided certified drivers and toolkits, helped me get the programming tasks done quickly and perfectly."

Structural modifications were made to facilitate installation of ceiling-mounted Panasonic projection systems, Samsung Pro wall displays, and additional sources, as well as upgraded AV systems. A shielded twisted pair cable infrastructure was installed to enable AV and control distribution throughout the space.

An Extron DTP system provides flexible signal distribution within each classroom, auditorium, and meeting space. Other Extron products in the space include a 4K/60 annotation processor, a ShareLink Pro wireless gateway, and a TouchLink Pro 10-inch touchpanel.

With a centralized equipment room distributing signals throughout the training center, Cal FIRE’s upgraded rooms standardize operation through consistent control interfaces while supporting flexible room configurations. Partition-sensor automation automatically adapts the AV setup when the movable wall between the two auditoriums is opened or closed. Cal FIRE reports that the Extron AV systems with annotation have significantly enhanced CFTC learning environments, improving reliability and ease of use so instructors can focus on teaching rather than troubleshooting technology.

"The specified manufacturer was experiencing issues with product availability, so we were freed up to recommend our go-to AV company, Extron," explained Tom Bustillos, general manager, AV Structural. "Once we got the go-ahead to provide a new turnkey design that would virtually replace system components in all areas except three conference rooms, we proceeded to procure the readily available products and deploy state-of- the-art Extron-centric AV systems in all classrooms and auditoriums. Michigan’s Oakland Community College recently opened its ultramodern Culinary Studies Institute in a new three-story, 78,000-square-foot building on the Royal Oak campus. Throughout the facility, audiovisual technology plays a key role in hands-on learning that prepares students for careers in the food industry. A decade of planning went into constructing a new home for the Culinary Studies Institute on OCC’s Royal Oak campus. Building design began in 2020. By fall 2025, construction was complete and the teaching kitchens opened to students. The new building is designed from the ground up with flexible and scalable audiovisual technology that supports learning and collaboration on every floor. We continue to see growing demand for Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) across a wider range of spaces, driven by users who want to collaborate locally while seamlessly including remote participants. Employees expect to use familiar UC platforms such as Teams and Zoom to connect with remote colleagues while gathering in conference rooms, meeting spaces, or classrooms. A critical requirement is the ability to use the room’s camera, microphone, and speakers so local participants can be clearly seen and heard, and remote attendees can fully engage with everyone in the room. At the same time, users want this experience to run from their own laptops without the need to rely on complex or costly room-based systems.

Advances in collaboration switchers have made this model increasingly practical. These solutions allow a single USB-C connection from a laptop to route video and audio to the room display, while also providing access to the room’s camera, microphone, and speakers, and providing power to the local laptop. With one connection, a meeting organizer can present content locally and share high-quality room audio and video through Teams, Zoom, or other UC platforms running on their laptop. BYOM enables users to quickly connect their own devices to room AV systems using a familiar interface, making it easier to collaborate both in person and remotely. USB-C is transforming connectivity by combining video, data, and power into a single, streamlined solution. Increasingly, though, we see USB-C causing pain points with AV/IT groups. Its all-in-one capability—video, data, and power—is both a boon and a challenge for many teams. The ability to provide, in one connector, what was traditionally handled by three connections—HDMI for video, USB-A for data, and power—is what everyone has been waiting for. However, in many spaces, and particularly those without tight controls on the laptop or other devices being connected, it can be a mixed bag in terms of what features the mobile device and AV system support.

Users are often left trying to figure out in a hurry if the USB-C connection supports device charging for their laptop, or a USB data connection to in-room devices such as cameras, microphones, or speakers that might be needed for Teams or Zoom meetings. That same data connection might also support a wired Ethernet connection to the local network. Communicating which features are required and supported during system planning is critical to ensuring users have what they need.

Another challenge with USB-C is staying within the five-hub limit when adding USB devices like extension products or switchers. These devices often include internal hubs, which must be factored into the design. Exceeding the limit often leads to intermittent signal issues. Product specifications that include technical information, such as internal USB hub counts, are critical to proper AV/IT system design, and choosing equipment from manufacturers that make this information readily available is an important benchmark for addressing this common USB-C pain point.

Extron has introduced its DTP3 T 211, the newest addition to the DTP3 platform that is available immediately. This long distance transmitter sends USB-C video and bidirectional RS-232 signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CAT 6A cable. The transmitter can provide up to 100 watts of charging power to the USB-C source when deployed with the Extron UPI 100 power inserter. ICYMI: Extron's New HDMI EDID Emulator for 8K and 21:9 Ultra-Wide Displays

Extron's new EDID 121 is a next-generation EDID emulator for 8K, 5K, and 21:9 ultra-widescreen displays. This problem-solving device features Extron-exclusive EDID Minder Plus technology to provide enhanced 512-byte EDID emulation for supporting additional memory blocks needed to convey advanced display capabilities via EDID and DisplayID structures. Users can choose from several pre-stored EDID profiles or capture and save EDID from a connected display. The EDID 121 is ideal for a wide variety of professional environments, including 5K Microsoft Teams Front Row and other ultra-wide aspect ratio display applications.

The EDID 121 is HDCP 2.3 compliant and supports resolutions up to 8K/60 at data rates up to 40.1 Gbps. It provides many convenient integration-friendly features, including automatic HDMI input cable equalization, automatic color bit depth management, and user-selectable HDCP authorization. It ships with an energy-efficient Extron Everlast power supply and is housed in a compact quarter-rack width metal enclosure.

System integrators and design engineers deal with a lot of challenges, but one that probably isn't discussed as much as it should be is installing equipment in a safe and secure way. Without a keen attention to detail, accidents can happen … and they do.

In 2021, an LED panel fall off the wall at a TV station and the anchor injured his nose. It pinned him against his desk on the live set. The collapse was believed to have been a rigging failure, where one of the support points for the overloaded video wall failed.

Accidents can also happen in corporate boardrooms and other Pro AV production spaces. That’s why it’s critical to safely mount, secure, and conceal equipment. Safety involves a combination of proper planning and the correct hardware that accounts for weight load, structural integrity, and proper cable management. Although they might cost extra, sturdy racks and appropriate mounting hardware can be beneficial for the longevity of your equipment. It might even save someone's nose—or your job.

Proper Installation

Level 3 Audiovisual recently completed a massive AV modernization program called Mod ’25 for a Fortune 500 global manufacturer that replaced hundreds of legacy videoconferencing systems with modern, Zoom-enabled collaboration spaces that met strict global standards. The scope of the project included 465 rooms, 28 sites, and 10 countries—and it was delivered in less than 12 months.

One of the keys to a successful installation project is ensuring that all the equipment has been assembled correctly, using all the cables, wires, and screws recommended by the manufacturer. According to Bill McGinty, COO, Level 3 Audiovisual, every project conducted by the company follows a comprehensive safety checklist, which includes verifying all mounts, securing cables, maintaining clear walkways, and scheduling regular inspections.

“As AV technology continues to evolve, becoming more compact, lightweight, and integrated, our commitment to safety and security remains unwavering,” said McGinty. Manufacturers Help the Cause

For their part, manufacturers try to be as clear as possible in their documentation to describe the proper way to install the equipment and systems. There’s also a wide variety of safety accessories available.

For example, Extron offers several products designed for secure ceiling mounting and cable concealment. Its SoundField pendant speakers are supported by a variety of accessories, including the PendantConnect speaker cable that comes with an integrated steel safety cable for securing the speaker to the ceiling bracket. In addition, Extron’s SMK A speaker aircraft cable kits can be used to reduce lateral movement, when required by local seismic codes, and when suspending the speaker between ceiling beams.

Often, cables have to be concealed within furniture or behind cabinets, so Extron offers an entire product line called the Cable Cubby series devoted to cable management solutions. “In addition, our VM 100 Series VESA mount kit conveniently secures products to the back of a display," da Silva added. "The PMK 155 pole mount kit secures and conceals products above the projector or beneath a surface with select Extron Cable Cubby Series enclosures. The unique Half Rack Shelf System allows the mounting of products in space constrained furniture when there is no AV closet or space for full-size equipment racks.”

Determining What's Best

According to Gina Sansivero, VP of marketing and corporate communications for AtlasIED, wall-mounted loudspeakers are often used in corporate boardrooms when in-ceiling loudspeakers aren’t an option or if additional coverage in larger spaces is required. Mounting them properly maintains the aesthetic of the room while keeping cables and mounts concealed.

“Key considerations when choosing the right loudspeaker should be coverage required, the configuration and layout of the environment, and room acoustics,” she said. “They can be surface mounted or recess mounted. When recessed, cable pathways generally run behind the wall, and are hidden, ensuring aesthetic continuity in the room. However, when surface mounted, cables may be visible if they aren’t run behind the walls.”

In this case, AtlasIED carefully considers cable management into loudspeaker and bracket design. “Our loudspeakers and mounting options are easy to install and provide integrators the flexibility needed to minimize aesthetic impact in the rooms,” Sansivero said.

What’s most important is following rules for safety, no matter what production environment you are working in, and understanding which safety solutions work best for a particular environment. Safely installing production equipment calls for careful planning, strict safety measures, and thorough follow-up checks. Main steps include planning, site prep, energy isolation (LOTO), secure rigging and alignment, and final testing and training.

“In broadcast environments, we emphasize the use of certified rigging hardware and secondary safety attachments for overhead fixtures, along with cable ramps and underfloor raceways to reduce trip hazards,” said McGinty. “In corporate spaces, secure wall mounts and in-wall conduits help maintain a clean, professional, and safe environment. And in control rooms, we rely on rack-mounted systems, anti-tip hardware, and clear labeling to ensure operational efficiency and crew safety."

Addressing Safety Concerns

Equipment that is not securely mounted poses serious hazard to the set, talent, and crew. Here are a few tips to improve installation safety practices, including some specifics for displays and cables.

• Check weight capacities: Always adhere to the weight ratings of all mounting hardware, racks, shelves, and walls.
• Use proper fasteners: When wall-mounting a rack or display, use screws, bolts, and anchors that are appropriate for the wall material and are long enough for a secure hold.
• Balance rack loads: For mobile racks, place heavier equipment like power amplifiers at the bottom to lower the center of gravity to prevent tipping.
• Protect against falling objects: When installing overhead equipment, such as speakers or lighting, properly secure suspended units, and mark any flown cables to prevent contact with moving objects.

Wall-Mounted Displays

• Verify the wall structure: Identify and drill into wall studs or use appropriate anchors to support the weight of the display. Drilling into drywall without proper support can weaken the wall.
• Choose the right mount: Select a mount rated to support the size and weight of your specific display. The load capacity of mounts varies among manufacturers.
• Address ADA compliance: In public spaces, ensure wall-mounted items do not protrude more than 4 inches into a circulation path to ensure accessibility and prevent hazards.
• Conceal cables safely: Route cables through walls using in-wall rated wiring or organize them with cord protectors or raceways (an enclosed metal channel) to eliminate tripping hazards.

Cable Management

• Use proper bundling: Use Velcro straps or re-closable J-hooks for bundling cables. Avoid cinching ties too tightly, as this can crimp wires and damage insulation.
• Install cable guards: When cables must cross foot traffic areas, use cable guards to protect people from tripping.
• Label everything: Labelling all cables at both ends makes future troubleshooting and maintenance much easier.

Extron introduced its new NetPA Ultra FX Series eight and four-channel configurable output audio power amplifiers with Dante connectivity and essential audio DSP. New DTP3 Extenders That Streamline 4K/60 HDMI and USB 2 Extension

Extron also unveiled its DTP3 T 331 and DTP3 R 331, long-distance, digital twisted pair extenders for sending HDMI, USB 2 data, audio, and bidirectional RS-232 signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CAT 6A cable.

These HDCP 2.3-compliant products include proven technologies that extend video with optimal image quality and support video resolutions up to 4K/60 at 4:4:4 color sampling. For maximum image quality and minimal latency, all supported video resolutions are transported without compression. The DTP3 transmitter provides one HDMI input, one USB host port, and a mirrored HDMI output. It is loaded with Extron technologies such as EDID Minder for streamlined integration and operation. The receiver features a four-port USB hub and stereo audio de-embedding for convenient installation in professional environments. The low-profile enclosures and remote power capability make the DTP3 T 331 and DTP3 R 331 ideal for discreet placement wherever needed to meet application requirements.

The DTP3 331 Series transmitter and receiver support USB 2 devices with data rates up to High-Speed USB. They are compatible with USB 3 devices that can operate at USB 2 data rates. Integrated USB signal extension enables connection to peripheral devices over the same twisted pair cable as HDMI signals. The DTP3 R 331 receiver’s four-port USB hub allows the connection of several USB devices such as interactive whiteboards, keyboards, mice, mass storage devices, and webcams on a single host port.

This series delivers reliable, powerful, and precise control in four sizes with multiple configuration options. All models feature advanced IPS technology, delivering vibrant color reproduction along with improved contrast, brightness, and wide viewing angles.

[Bringing Order to AV Chaos]

They also incorporate a new Extron HTML5 stack, enabling modern, responsive interface design without relying on outdated technologies. HTML5 allows rich, interactive control pages that scale seamlessly across different screen sizes and orientations. It also supports embedded multimedia elements, including H.264 video streams, dynamic graphics, and real-time data widgets.

TLP Pro 535, TLP Pro 835, and TLP Pro 1035 touchpanels can be transformed into standalone control systems using LinkLicense for TLP Control Processor and an optional TLCA 2 - TouchLink Control Port Expansion Adapter. This approach simplifies system design and reduces the hardware footprint by eliminating the need for a separate control processor. It is ideal for installations where space is limited or cost efficiency is a priority.

Multi-color status indicators provide immediate visual feedback for system states, alerts, or room availability, allowing users to quickly identify room status or system conditions without navigating menus. The feature includes 10 default colors with predefined options that make setup fast and intuitive. The indicators can show a broad spectrum of colors and also support custom HEX color values for precise color matching, enabling alignment with corporate branding or application-specific requirements.

All wall mount models except the 15.6" can be mounted in either portrait or landscape orientations, making them ideal for environments where space is limited or specific viewing angles are required.

Extron recently introduced it NAV E 222 USB-C and HDMI switching encoder. Adding USB-C input capability and input switching to the NAV Pro AV over IP Series platform, this new Encoder provides AV system designers with flexible options to create high performance streaming systems. Purpose-built to support demanding professional AV applications, the highly scalable and powerful NAV platform enables secure deployment of AV signals to thousands of endpoints.

Extron Introduces Reliable New Twisted Pair USB 5Gbps Extension

Extron also recently unveiled its UCS 910 Series of twisted pair USB 5Gbps extenders. This new series extends USB data signals from peripheral devices to a host computer over twisted pair cable. Compatible with USB 3 and previous standards, they support data rates up to USB 5Gbps and can send signals up to 330 feet (100m) over a CAT 6A cable.

The UCS TR 910 Kit includes a transmitter, receiver with power supply, and ZipClip brackets for secure mounting of the units in furniture, behind a display, or under a desk. The transmitter features a USB-C host connection and can be powered from the receiver, or locally with an optional power supply. The receiver features a two-port USB hub with USB-C and USB-A ports for connecting remote peripherals.

The UCS 910 Series also supports annotation tools, interactive displays, headsets, speakers, and a wide range of other USB devices. With data rates up to 5Gbps and support for USB 3 and earlier standards, the UCS 910 Series is ideal for training rooms, courtrooms, conference spaces, classrooms, and lecture halls where high-performance USB extension is required.

New 8K HDMI Matrix for ProAV Applications

The DXP 42 HD 8K, a compact yet powerful 4x2 HDMI matrix switcher, was designed for professional AV environments that require high-performance video distribution. Supporting resolutions up to 8K/60 and ultra-wide 5K at data rates up to 40.1 Gbps, this advanced switcher is ideal for applications such as Microsoft Teams Front Row systems.

The DXP 42 HD 8K is fully HDCP 2.3-compliant and features Extron-exclusive technologies including EDID Minder® Plus, which manages advanced display features, and SpeedSwitch for fast input switching, ensuring reliable routing of high data rate HDMI signals to multiple displays.

The DXP 42 HD 8K is equipped with multiple integration-friendly features like HDMI audio de-embedding and automatic input cable equalization. To reliably display and distribute 8K, 5K, and 21:9 aspect ratio content, EDID Minder Plus technology provides enhanced 512-byte EDID emulation for supporting additional memory blocks needed to convey advanced display capabilities via EDID and DisplayID structures.
