SCN: How long have you been with this company, and what are your responsibilities?

Mike Gleason: I have been with Utelogy for over a year. As a growing company, we are lean by design, which means I wear many hats. In my role as chief revenue officer, my core responsibilities include developing and executing revenue strategies, leading sales teams and initiatives, and aligning our growth with strategic partnerships.

SCN: Utelogy is all about remote monitoring, but how much can that really save in labor costs and truck rolls?

MG: In the AV world, the vast majority of support processes remain manual and reactive. Utelogy is changing that through automation and intelligent service management workflows. We differentiate ourselves by enabling end users and MSP partners to manage their AV/UC environments in a proactive, rather than reactive, way.

Our platform can perform automated, self-testing room sweeps, eliminating the need for IT staff to manually test every conference room each morning. We also enable self-healing capabilities, allowing the system to automatically detect when a room’s baseline configuration has been altered and restore it to its original, validated state without manual intervention. Our cloud first platform allows admins to monitor their environment from anywhere in the world and react to issues in seconds without on-site intervention.

SCN: Utelogy likes to use the term “360-degree view,” but what does that mean for your customers?

MG: This means you can manage your environment without jumping between multiple manufacturer-specific portals, which often leads to portal fatigue and longer mean time to resolution. As a vendor-agnostic platform, Utelogy provides a true single pane of glass to monitor and manage your entire environment from one portal, regardless of manufacturer.

When a meeting space goes down, IT support teams put both their reputation and internal operating costs on the line. With Utelogy in place, they can be confident that issues are detected quickly, root causes are identified, and a single source of truth is provided to accelerate resolution.

SCN: What sort of analytics can Utelogy’s platform generate, and how are they helping organizations?

MG: Our analytics focus on giving organizations meaningful, actionable visibility, not just status charts. The platform generates insights into device health, room usage and utilization, and alert metrics made available through customizable dashboards, reports, and on-demand data exploration. Just as importantly, customers can access this data however they need to: through APIs, webhooks, or native integrations with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow.

This flexibility is critical. By making data accessible in multiple formats and pipelines, organizations can feed it into their existing ITSM and AIOps tools to processes and correlate it with broader IT data, and build more proactive, efficient operations.

SCN: How is AI impacting Utelogy’s effectiveness?

MG: AI is becoming a much larger part of how we deliver value and how we run our own business. Recently, we announced Utelogy Predict, actively in development in collaboration with Intel. This new feature will bring advanced predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and deeper insights to the platform. This allows organizations to identify issues earlier, understand long-term trends, and operate their estates far more proactively.

We’re also investing heavily in agentic AI that will run on Utelogy’s MCP servers. With natural-language interaction, users can run diagnostics, retrieve status updates, analyze trends, and gain actionable insights that enable AI-driven control across their operational environment offering a secure enterprise-ready solution. This empowers teams to preempt issues earlier and make more informed decisions at scale.

And importantly, AI isn’t something we only build for customers. We leverage it internally across our own teams for data analysis, support workflows, product planning, and operational decision-making. It helps us move faster, understand our users better, and focus our engineering efforts on the highest-impact areas. In short, AI is shaping both our platform and the way we work.

SCN: Why is the Utelligent Partner Alliance so important?

MG: Our manufacturing partners are a critical part of Utelogy’s success. We invest in them, and they invest in us. We partner closely with their teams to ensure visibility into their APIs, enabling us to build the integrations that provide our clients with the data they need to make informed decisions. We work with over 200 manufacturers and support over 3,500 unique models, an achievement that would not have been possible over the past 16 years without their strong alignment and partnership.

SCN: What’s next for the Pro AV industry?

MG: The AV industry is entering a new phase where software, data, and automation are no longer optional, they’re becoming the foundation of how modern environments are operated. For years we’ve talked about AV/IT convergence; now, we’re finally seeing it materialize through networked devices, cloud-connected systems, and tighter alignment with IT workflows and security practices.

What’s next is a shift toward ecosystems that are measurable, manageable, and integrated. Organizations want and need AV to behave like the rest of their technology stack: centrally monitored, data-driven, automated, and connected to ITSM and AIOps tools. This doesn’t diminish the importance of AV, it elevates it. When AV data can flow into the same platforms that track service health, security posture, and user experience, it becomes far more strategic to the business.

This evolution will challenge teams who rely solely on manual checks or isolated, hardware-centric approaches and those who have been unwilling to change, but it opens meaningful opportunity for those who embrace vendor-agnostic platforms, open standards, and automation. The move away from reactive support toward proactive, analytics-led operations positions AV professionals as true partners in workplace experience, not just responders when something breaks. The organizations and integrators who adapt to this model by combining AV expertise with data literacy, IT alignment, and software fluency will define the next decade of the industry.

The NAV Series is the most advanced professional AV over IP technology to receive this Department of Defense certification, enabling confident installation of NAV Series systems in the most secure information and network infrastructures.

Neat unveiled Neat Open, a new mode that transforms bring-your-own-device (BYOD) spaces to deliver more flexible, consistent, and manageable experiences on Neat devices. Neat Open unites BYOD, the growing number of business applications in Neat App Hub, and innovative AI-powered capabilities, all managed through Neat Pulse, to make spaces more functional and intelligent. With Neat Open, even if a room is not in a BYOD call, it can be used to run collaboration apps and launch custom workflows, or use unique capabilities to make local sessions more collaborative.

Neat Open includes AI-powered features that enable local users to wirelessly share content and capture ideas with AI notes, all from the Neat device. This enables multiple participants to simultaneously share content while the AI automatically captures key ideas then easily revisit and share them later, making every meeting more productive.

AVPro Edge introduced new capabilities to the MXnet CBOX-HA. Designed for flexibility and ease, the CBOX-HA now supports three distinct operating modes, enabling it to be the single management platform for various types of AV systems. These modes include MXnet 1G, MXnet 10G or Dante Controller mode. In Dante Controller mode, the CBOX-HA leverages the powerful Dante API (DAPI) for discovery, management, and signal routing of any Dante capable devices, including those from AVPro Edge and AudioControl as well as third-party solutions. Coming soon, enabling a CBOX-HA mode will be even easier by incorporating a mode select wizard at initial startup for faster configuration with zero guesswork.

Brightline Lighting has introduced an all-in-one, low-voltage control system for variable white lighting over a single DMX cable. Designed to provide seamless compatibility with low voltage Pro AV systems, the AV/720 lighting control system offers a simple “lighting by numbers” installation with true color reproduction. Each AV/720 system drives a selection of up to 20 Brightline LED lights that may include the Flex-T, LVP, LVCI, LST, Pup fresnel, or Minnow profile spotlight—at 97 CRI (Color Rendering Index). Since the AV/720 arrives programmed and with pre-labeled cables and fixtures, installation is simplified. Onsite installers simply follow the numbers. If system expansion is desired, either with existing capacity or by adding a second AV/720, Brightline will run a new program at the factory and send the software update to support the expansion.

The AV/720 is compatible with all Brightline recessed architectural fixtures, including new versions of the Pup and Minnow. The fixtures are adjustable within a color temperature range of 3200 to 5600 degrees Kelvin, rendering this scalable system ideal for dynamically changing environments.

Crestron Electronics is enhancing its Intelligent Video portfolio, through the Automate VX multi-camera speaker tracking solution, to create a more immersive and engaging collaboration environment. An increasing demand for multi-camera solutions is reshaping the meeting room experience across larger spaces to enable better experiences through additional camera angles. Automate VX directs the cameras to capture a speaker from multiple perspectives depending on where they are looking so that key moments are always captured to enhance virtual collaboration.

The latest Automate VX update brings new features such as Visual AI Direction, which enables more fluid interactions during meetings as cameras seamlessly switch to capture speakers based on the angles of their face. With this enhancement, Automate VX intelligently selects the camera that shows the clearest view of an active speaker’s face. With this solution, in-person attendees can act naturally to glance around the room to content on the displays or other attendees in the room without worrying about how those moments are captured for virtual attendees. The new auto framing feature incorporates auto tracking, image recognition, and auto framing technologies to deliver precise, user-defined camera framing for high quality, natural content. Framing pre-sets can be combined, including multi-subject group shots, while advanced human body detection allows consistent subject headroom.

The built-in Auto Framing Feature for Panasonic’s AW-UE160 PTZ camera will be available from CY2025 Q1 via firmware updates and the Advanced Auto Framing plug-in for Panasonic's Media Production Suite software platform will be available from CY2025 Q2. The Advanced Auto Framing plug-in will enable auto framing for various PTZs across the Panasonic lineup and will support multi-camera setup for auto framing to enhance subject-detection accuracy and operability while facial recognition technology enables optimal framing for specified individuals.

[Meet Panasonic Connect's PTZ Camera Lineup]

The new auto framing feature for the AW-UE160W/K can be used in conjunction with the AW-RP150GJ and AW-RP60GJ remote camera controllers, making it easy to fine-tune the camera angle during auto framing. In addition, synchronizing camera selection with auto framing in the Media Production Suite simplifies switching between auto and manual framing operations.

Alfatron Electronics unveiled its ALF-UC1 Generation 2 Wireless Conferencing System. With the ability to serve as the central point of control for a camera, computer, video display, and audio system, the ALF-UC1 (Gen2) can link one's computer to the in-room AV system with high quality video and audio without the need for cables, converters, or having to worry about where the various connection plates in the room may be.

To ensure clear video that helps engage meeting participants, the ALF-UC1 (Gen2) features dual screen HDMI outputs. Output 1 is configured for 4K UHD video while output 2 is intended for 1080P displays. The system is both HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 compliant—ensuring connectivity with a wide range of video sources. Switching between presenters is quick and easy as the screen can be split for connecting multiple presenters. The system’s Multiview capability makes it easy to show up to four presenters on one display.

The ALF-UC1 (Gen2) supports multiple sharing and connection methods, including 4K HDMI and USB-C dongles. The UC-1 Generation 2 now features a secondary HDMI output that can connect to an additional display device, a recorder, a confidence-monitor, or remote display in another location. The ALF-UC1 (Gen 2) also has a wireless software application that provides a straightforward way to connect wirelessly to the unit from any Windows or Mac OS platform. The local ‘Screen-Share’ feature from the ALF-wireless media application enables the connected user to view the shared content on their own computer, further allowing them to share this content into a VC Call as a ‘share screen,' enabling far side participants to see the content shared to the ALF-UC1 (Gen2), without the presenter(s) being in the VC Call.

The ALF-wireless media application provides an intuitive interface and makes for quick and easy use of the features built into the application. These features include sharing the screen, the ability to share the full screen or not, freeze screen, local share, and a host of additional settings such as audio selection on the USB connections and quality of the latency.

The Alfatron ALF-UC1 (Gen2) also supports USB peripheral device sharing over a Wi-Fi connection for still greater meeting flexibility. Device control and configuration can be managed via the Web GUI. 3rd Party control is available via IP/LAN (Telnet) and RS-232 (Serial) protocols. Further, front panel control is provided for USB host switching between local USB-C wired or wireless connections, or it can be set to auto switch. Additional attributes of the ALF-UC1 (Gen2) include support for both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi bands, plus a LAN port with 1 Gbps speed.

With its new Display Management System (DMS) product bundles, IHSE USA has introduced a way to simplify the design, setup, and ordering of fixed-sized KVM matrix systems. It's the latest addition to the company's Draco Flex series KVM matrix switch solutions for midrange control rooms, production rooms, and training center applications.

"It can take a significant amount of time in the product design process to create an a la carte configuration, but with the acceleration of competitive high-end KVM display management systems, it is imperative for manufacturers to help customers find what they are looking for in the fastest and easiest way possible," said Dan Holland, marketing manager at IHSE USA. "Our new KVM Display Management System bundles significantly reduce the number of products and information a customer must plan for. Using one simple part number, they can order the perfect mix of KVM extenders and matrix switches to suit their system configuration."

The new DMS product line—which includes advanced control management software, USB-HID for keyboard and mouse, and support for either HDMI or DisplayPort video—offers a full package system under one part number and in sizes ranging from 4x4 up to 16x16. The new DMS bundles include the KVM matrix switch, a full set of extenders, and the Draco tera tool software for advanced system management. Holland said training centers, esports production rooms, government control rooms, audio mixing rooms, medical centers, and network operating centers can benefit from the DMS bundles.

The IHSE DMS offers many features and benefits, including IHSE's exclusive Flex-Port technology, which allows each matrix port to be user-configured as an input or an output. With the advanced control interface, operators can manage switches through an on-screen display (OSD), GUI systems configuration software, or any third-party control system using IHSE's free API.

Via the OSD or using IHSE's tera tool software, every step of the DMS setup process is designed to be quick and easy, configuring inputs and outputs automatically while letting the installer make intelligent design decisions along the way. The controller card inside the matrix switch automatically assigns the extenders to the switch configuration, optimizing setup with predefined ID tags and without the need of IP addressing. With the IHSE DMS, a 16x16 system could be commissioned in less than half a day.

Handling long distance computer connections is a simple operation. As each Draco extender is connected and power applied, the module automatically negotiates a port ID, which is stored in the switch processor control module. This port ID is retained even if the module is moved to another physical cable connection. In addition, extender definitions automatically determine the device ports to ensure source signals are all switched synchronously.

Along with the compact design and low cost, the Draco Flex family incorporates features from the Draco enterprise series of switches, including SNMPv3, LDAPS, multilingual on-screen display, encrypted communications for maximum security, and macro-key configuration for salvo presets. Multiple console workstations can be reconfigured with a single click using predefined presets. The creation of individual macro layouts is straightforward and can be undertaken without programming knowledge.

Plus, the IHSE DMS offers an EDID management tool built into the configuration software that allows administrators to manage EDID on a single source or (in some cases) create a custom EDID that can be loaded to each KVM extender module. As a result, the KVM extender units can recognize any source resolution pushed to that user station. Facilities often upgrade equipment at different times, resulting in a mix of monitors and computers that operate with a range of resolutions and differing operating systems. IHSE's EDID management ensures all computer systems operate seamlessly between user stations.

"The flexibility of adding a DMS bundle to any Pro AV environment provides enhanced capabilities to a wide range of users," said Holland. "System integrators will find IHSE's DMS bundles are the perfect, single-part-number solution to handle their customers' requirements."

LynTec has added remote device management (RDM) to its Lighting Control Relay Panels (LCRPs). As an RDM-ready device, the LCRP will communicate bidirectionally, enhancing the control and functionality already built into the lighting power control and distribution solution. This enhancement will be available on all LCRP models, with plans to extend this feature to the rest of LynTec's DMX-controllable products in the near future.

Leveraging the latest generation of control panels saves valuable time and effort for users, and gives system integrators the ability to configure control systems in minutes. They can also quickly make system modifications when required—without the need for extensive programming.

A single, intuitive graphical point of control also enables more users to easily interact with the space and AV equipment. In short, touchpanels simplify operations for users of varying technical abilities while reducing IT support needs.

Mounting Options

“[Installing] a dedicated touchpanel means that reliable, local room control is always in place when you need it most,” said Justin Kennedy, product manager at Atlona. “You don't have to worry about dead batteries or device updates breaking the control functions. Users can be assured that there’s a platform in place to provide consistent control inside the room or scheduling outside the room without fear of losing connectivity.”

A touchpanel can be mounted on a conference room table with a built-in tilt mechanism so it’s visible to everyone in the room, or mounted on a wall or even glass for easy access. Atlona also offers a flush mount kit that works for its seven and 10-inch panels that can be fully recessed into the wall for a nice aesthetic look. A fourth option is to use a 75mm mount with a swivel arm, which brings even more flexibility to access the control features.

All of Atlona’s active panels, including the new Velocity AT-VTP-700VL, are built to a VESA 75mm standard. That means the table mount you purchase will work with all of its panels. The one-gang global wall mount simplifies installation. Because it's a standard mounting size, there is also the option to add a third-party mount, such as a podium swivel mount.

The Velocity AT-VTP-700VL features a HTML5-based user interface, which provides the freedom to use any browser. Remote control is enabled through QR codes for BYOD control. The company also offers a remote gateway service, which gives users the ability to remotely access the system through the cloud.

Determining the right-sized (and featured) panel for a specific application often comes down to functionality and budget. Generally, the smaller the panel, the lower the cost. The size of the panel can also be dictated by the complexity of the system and how many devices it is controlling.

Product Placement

Location is also an important consideration when installing control panels. When placed inside a room, there’s a clear benefit: bringing all the controls into one easy-to-use interface. Instead of having disparate panels and buttons controlling AV, HVAC, lighting, shading, etc., it’s all handled from one easy-to-use place.

“Outside the room, the benefits are threefold,” explained Joel Mulpeter, director of product marketing at Crestron. “We're projecting information to people about how the room's being used, both now and in the future, through status indicators and the like. Secondly, booking the room via a screen by the door offers another way to reserve the space beyond the platform on your computer. The third is the data and analytics we can gather from all that.”

Once the system integrator knows how particular rooms are being booked, he added, they can begin to understand what spaces are being reserved on an ad hoc basis versus planned bookings. Depending on the room type, this can help determine lots of information about available real estate and facilities and how they’re actually being used.

Crestron offers a variety of touchpanel sizes—from 4-inch to 10-inch models—and if a client desires an even larger panel, Crestron can provide a graphics engine for that. The company also provides panels that connect to the network with a single cable. For example, its TST-1080 wireless touchscreen supports voice commands for controlling functions, full-motion streaming video from cameras and other sources, intercom, and an internet browser.

“We really don't want proprietary cabling with touchpanels," Mulpeter said, "we just want them to be a network drop, powered from that network as well, and simple to install.”

UC Considerations

There’s also a need for integrated unified communications (UC) interfaces such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom during meetings. The trick is properly embedding controls into those interfaces so the user can easily flip to navigating input sources and other functions outside the UC platform.

Joe da Silva, VP of marketing for Extron, agrees that UC integration is now a very desirable feature for touchpanels, allowing seamless integration with popular communication platforms. He said this broadens the potential for touchpanel use in videoconferencing and connecting people across distances.

“Touchpanels allow presenters to focus on their tasks rather than fussing with complicated AV systems or fumbling with multiple remote controls,” he said, adding that Extron control panels are now used in just about any modern workspace. “They also provide an efficient and convenient way of creating a consistent AV control interface from room to room, which takes the guesswork out of using different systems throughout an enterprise or campus.”

The Extron TLP Pro 1230WTG provides a 12-inch, ultra-wide screen with a sleek, low-profile design that minimizes visual obstructions and improves collaboration engagement. The touchpanel also offers HDMI video preview from an HDCP-compliant HDMI port. In addition to the company’s range of TouchLink Pro touchpanels, they also offer an increasing array of LinkLicense options that allow customers to add multiple new functions to their touchpanels without the need for additional hardware.

Looking Ahead

At VuWall, Nick Mathis, director of business development USA, said current touchpanel trends include the increasing use of higher resolution, Full HD displays, as well as touchless interaction options, multitouch capabilities, and integration of intelligent features like embedded operating systems and IoT connectivity. “In many cases, touchpanels are not in the mind of end customers until they begin working with a system integrator who highlights its usefulness,” he noted.

VuWall’s newest product, the ControlVu-10-3, was redesigned to meet new market demands, specifically in secure and mission-critical command and control environments. The 10-inch PoE touchpanel offers a secure Linux operating system and no other wireless options (such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) and no camera—all features that are typically not allowed. ControlVu gives operators the freedom to control the system directly from the simple touch of a button, including third-party systems on a local network. They can also easily adjust the lights or reboot displays.

Moving forward, touchpanels will continue to evolve with customer needs. Users are looking for richer graphics, thinner bezels, quicker page flips, and brighter and wider-angled screens options, among other features.

Indeed, the future of touchpanels is poised for exciting advancements. With the continued AV/IT convergence, the reach of touchpanels continues to increase. As more devices can communicate across a network, touchpanels will have more power to reduce the time it takes for users to get their work done.

“We do anticipate continued integration with emerging technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality, enhancing interactive experiences and opening new possibilities for applications in gaming, education, and simulation,” said Mathis. “Moreover, advancements in touch sensitivity and haptic feedback will further blur the line between physical and digital interaction, offering more immersive and tactile experiences. As technology evolves, touchpanels will continue to evolve, offering more intuitive and immersive ways to interact with the digital world.”

LEA Professional officially launched of the Connect Series Touch wall controller at InfoComm 2024. The Connect Series Touch is a wall-mounted touch-enabled control panel designed for simple and intuitive control of LEA Connect Series amplifiers. The controller is PoE-powered for easy installation and can be used for individual zone or group control.

Extron recently introduce its new addition to the ShareLink Pro portfolio. The ShareLink Pro 2000 is a 4K wireless presentation system that enables anyone to present content from computers, tablets, or smartphones on a display for easy collaboration. It features advanced technology that supports simultaneous display of up to four sources, including an HDMI-connected device. Extron Releases 4K/60 Configurable DTP3 Scaling Presentation Matrix Switchers

Extron recently introduced its DTP3 CrossPoint Series of configurable presentation matrix switchers. Designed to deliver high-performance matrix switching with HDMI and DTP3 inputs and outputs, audio DSP with AEC, Dante, a power amplifier, and a control processor, all in a single box, the matrix switchers feature reversible DTP3 I/O ports, enabling one unit to support multiple matrix configurations to suit the unique needs of each project.

DTP3 CrossPoint 4K/60 Presentation Matrix Switchers are available in four sizes, providing flexible input/output configurations to match a wide range of system applications:

• DTP3 CrossPoint 884: Configurable from 8x12 to 12x8 
• DTP3 CrossPoint 662: Configurable from 6x8 to 8x6

Extron is now shipping its IPL EXP PDU8L. This control system power expansion interface provides centralized 12V DC power management, monitoring, and temperature sensing. It delivers 60 watts across eight individually controllable outputs. The IPL EXP PDU8L is Ethernet enabled and features the ability to monitor power consumption while providing a temperature port and thermistor probe for tracking temperature conditions of any ambient air space or device. It is designed to be used with an IPCP Pro xi Series control processor for secure, encrypted power control of attached devices. It can also operate independently using a secure Extron API, enabling seamless integration for specialized applications or direct control via the built-in web page.

The IPL EXP PDU8L is housed in a compact 1U quarter rack enclosure that offers a broad variety of mounting options, including mounting directly to Extron Basic and Universal rack shelf products, or behind a display.

Atlona has added a 7-inch touch panel to its Velocity family of IP-enabled AV control system products. The AT-VTP-700VL is an ideal user interface for AV control or room scheduling in education and corporate applications.

Offering a similar look, feel, and mounting as Atlona’s popular 10-inch panels, the VTP-700VL can function as the primary AV control interface for corporate meeting spaces, classrooms, and more. It is also suitable as a room scheduling panel for lobbies and hallways. The bright, side-mounted LEDs of the panel provide a clear, visual representation of room status or add emphasis to control functions. 

The VTP-700VL’s sleek design features refined, contemporary styling with 1024×600 native resolution and a capacitive glass surface. Setup and response are fast and easy with upgraded processing and memory. Room scheduling and AV control GUIs automatically load from the Velocity hardware or software server gateway during system configuration. 

“The AT-VTP-700VL is a great touch panel option for both corporate and education applications,” said Justin Kennedy, product Manager, Atlona. “The 7-inch control surface, enhanced processing and memory, and side LED lighting are ideal for AV control or scheduling in meeting spaces and classrooms.”  

For installation flexibility, the VTP-700VL includes a dual-purpose glass and wall mount compatible with one-gang United States, U.K., and EU wall openings. In addition, its standard VESA 75 mounting pattern provides compatibility with third-party mounts.  

Additionally, several optional touchpanel mounting solutions are available. This includes the introduction of flush mount kits for the 7 and 10-inch Velocity touchpanels. The AT-VTP-FMK-7-BL and AT-VTP-FMK-10-BL allow touchpanels to be recessed into a wall so the panel face is virtually flush with the wall surface. For tabletop applications, the AT-VTP-VTM kit enables freestanding placement of 7 and 10-inch panels on a meeting table or lectern.

Key Digital has released its third-generation update of its KD-WP8 eight-button web-UI-programmable IP control wall plate keypad, featuring increased onboard memory for extended capability. The wall plate now supports Telnet and joins TCP and UDP as protocols the KD-WP8-3 can natively employ to send ASCII or HEX format commands as an IP controller.

"[Telnet is] used by many brands as a sophisticated and secure method for IP control of DSP processors and other products," explained Key Digital VP of product education and experience Jonathon Ferry. "With Telnet, the KD-WP8-3 can be programmed—without writing code or additional hardware—to make a connection with a device to be controlled then send a username and password to gain access to send control commands. Key Digital is firmly committed to ‘playing well with others’—providing interactive control across brand boundaries. Telnet support extends that commitment to a wider range of products.”

The KD-WP8-3 now also supports programming with variables. “That’s a big benefit when a device like a DSP processor or audio amplifier requires discrete number entry for control of a given parameter,” Ferry added. The KD-WP8-3 can be programmed to launch a salvo of commands from a single button push that can completely reconfigure a system. But without variable storage, “we were only able to send increment/decrement control,” Ferry explained, “such as volume plus or minus for an amplifier as opposed to stored preset values like integers from 0 to 100, with positive or negative designations if required. Continuing that example, we can now load a preset starting volume to an amplifier as we reconfigure a system, regardless of the current level setting from the last use of the amp. Again, the benefit is the capability to integrate with, and have more effective control of, a wider number of products.”

Simultaneous with the release of the controller update, Key Digital is making it easier to implement control of projectors compatible with the widely adopted PJLink standardized protocol for controlling projectors over ethernet. “Many of our customers use the WP8-3 to control projectors via PJLink already,” said Ferry. “Based on our combined experience, there are commonalities in the configuration of the KD-WP8-3 for projectors that are now covered by three pre-programmed files that customers can download and import to simply and elegantly configure a KD-WP8-3.” The three configuration options begin with an eight-button configuration of eight core commands that are all sent directly to the projector. The second pre-set uses the same button layout with the audio volume and muting commands routed to a Key Digital KD-Amp220 audio amplifier, while the third option routes the input selection control commands to Key Digital UCC or switcher devices.

The KD-WP8-3 fits into a single-gang wall box and is PoE powered. The keypad can control any IP-networked Key Digital device. Control extends to third-party systems and devices through the Compass Control Pro protocol, user-friendly Open API support, or directly from the KD-WP8-3’s integrated IR output and RS-232 port. Additional devices with IR, RS-232 and voltage relay control functionality may also be controlled through integration with one or more of Key Digital’s family of master controllers. As a result of Key Digital joining the Q-SYS Technology Partner Program, the KD-WP8-3 is compatible with Q-SYS via the jointly developed Q-SYS KD-WP8-3 Plugin.

The KD-WP8-3 is programmed by a simple web GUI walkthrough of network settings, button configuration, and event selection, with project import and export, which makes it easy to set up multiple control points or duplicate an entire system.

Button command stacking allows up to 10 commands on button press and release/repeat, for up to 20 events per button and 160 events total and a two-button press combo may be set to lock and unlock the keypad. Buttons can be programmed for various latching or momentary action modes and red or blue LED backlighting. Button cap icon sheets are provided, along with a template for custom printing.

Extron has introduced the WC Pro Series. The WC Pro 150 OCS and WC Pro 160 Workspace Automation Controllers are designed to add easy, secure display control and automation to workspaces of all sizes. Depending on the model you choose, you can have automatic display control via an occupancy sensor—either built right into the workspace controller, or easily integrated as part of a streamlined room automation system. 

Right out of the box, these automation controllers will automatically power on a display via CEC when a person enters a room and turn it off at the end of the meeting when no motion is detected. Using the built-in web page, you can configure automatic display control over Ethernet, RS-232, or IR. For added convenience, both models support Power over Ethernet.

Both controllers are configurable with Global Configurator Plus or Professional. By simply adding a LinkLicense for WC Pro Control Processor, end users expand control capabilities to multiple displays and devices. This will also provide access to the full line of TouchLink Pro touchpanels and Network Button Panels to support projects that require a user interface. Once LinkLicense for WC Pro Control Processor has been applied, then LinkLicense for User Interfaces can also be applied. This LinkLicense provides an easy way for people to use their mobile devices or computers as primary control interfaces. 

Growing hybrid demands require a need for simplified reliable control to any space. Crestron Control does just that, bringing different protocols and technologies into one unified system, even offering cross-compatibility with all room configurations and vendors to enable an optimal and productive experience in rooms and across campuses. The Crestron Control App for Zoom Rooms software offers new functions that streamline the experience for the user, while Crestron’s Virtual Control (VC-4) and Crestron Construct have seen enhancements that make deployments easier for professional installers.

• Crestron Control App for Zoom Rooms Software: Videoconferencing systems can natively use Crestron Control to expand its capabilities thanks to Crestron Control App for Zoom Rooms Software. That means that everything from lighting, shades, AV solutions, peripherals, and the Zoom Rooms software platform itself can all be controlled by a single user interface—quickly, intelligently, efficiently, and securely. Furthermore, the Crestron Control App for Zoom Rooms Software provides users with flexibility. Systems can be easily scaled, and applications can be added based on the needs of the customer. There is no additional cost to enable it for spaces. 
• Crestron Virtual Control Server 25: The Crestron VC-4 Virtual Control software  offers a solution to design and configure a room’s UC, AV, and control solutions, and allowing them to save those configurations and automate them in a fraction of the time. Building off this popularity, Crestron has introduced a simplified, turnkey solution for medium to large-scale, time-sensitive projects. The new Virtual Control Server 25 (VC-4-SERVER-25) comes out of the box licensed to support 25 rooms, with the ability to scale to 500 rooms, quickly and easily. This solution is designed to deploy and manage control across floors, buildings, and campuses, such as higher education, government, and enterprise environments, and provides possibilities for maximizing room functionality.
• Crestron Construct Software: Since its introduction last year, Crestron’s easy-to-use drag-and-drop UI edit Crestron Construct has enhanced the application for developers to bring new features that streamline programming. Crestron Construct now has added support for authorization token which allows Crestron Construct projects to be securely launched by users, without requiring an additional login into the control system. Multi-resolution support has also been developed which has improved managing multiple devices in the project. These updates not only make managing multiple devices easier and more efficient, but it also provides improved performance when projects are first launched on a Crestron touch screen.

Atlona recently introduced an alternative to touch panels for AV control in smaller spaces and less complex applications. Now available in two wall mount form factors, the AT-VKP-8E provides IP-based system control in environments where a simple and straightforward keypad interface is preferred, such as standard classrooms and small meeting spaces.

The VPK-8E features eight buttons that can be configured to control display on/off, source selection, audio volume levels, and other system functions. For enhanced customization, it includes a 2.7-inch high-contrast electronic paper (e-paper) display. Users can associate custom text and icons with specific buttons, as well as dynamically navigate between different display layouts. RGB LEDs for each button and a multistep level indicator can be used to indicate system status. The PoE LAN connection provides power to the controller and the ability to control devices over Ethernet. An RS-232 port is included for serial control for legacy devices. 

The VKP-8E is set up using the new Atlona Cloud online configuration and management platform. Atlona Cloud provides an intuitive interface for defining the e-paper label/icon and LED color for each button as well as macros for controlling room technology added from an extensive database of Atlona and third-party drivers. For users who prefer not to start from scratch, pre-configured templates are available for Atlona’s most popular switchers.

Both were designed to consolidate AV switching, USB routing, audio mixing, amplification, and control into a low-profile enclosure with three HDMI inputs on the AT-OME-CS31-SA and one HDBaseT input and two HDMI inputs on the AT-OME-CS31-SA-HDBT.

The OME-CS31-SA and OME-CS31-SA-HDBT primarily share the same feature set, with key variances in AV switching and USB capabilities to meet specific requirements. The OME-CS1-SA is built for local switching applications that place its inputs close to the switcher and display, such as a classroom where the instructor’s desk is positioned near the front wall. The OME-CS31-SA-HDBT accommodates remote and local AV switching and is therefore most effective when an input is further from the switcher, such as at an instructor’s lectern in the room or if the switcher is mounted by a projector. The remote input of the OME-CS31-SA-HDBT supports extension of HDMI, Ethernet, power, control, and USB 2.0 data up to 100 meters (330 feet).

The two switchers add special capabilities for education applications that ensure important lesson material and announcements are heard clearly. This includes audio ducking which lowers program audio levels when the instructor speaks into a microphone system connected to the balanced input. Additionally, the system can be muted by contact closure or automatically when a school public address announcement is detected. Other audio capabilities include an on-board mixer for combining three line inputs, de-embedded HDMI, and USB audio as well as two 25 watt amplifier and line level outputs.

USB routing capabilities are well suited for corporate and education applications. Both OME-CS31 models support switching between two host devices and include a four-port hub for connecting cameras, speakerphones, interactive displays or other peripherals. Automatic display control and auto-switching allow the OME-CS31-SA and OME-CS31-SA-HDBT to automate system operation over their various Ethernet, serial, and trigger ports, or they can be integrated into environments with an Atlona Velocity control system. 

Central Control's recently released show control application—Central Control 4—now offers integrated support for two of Magewell's production and IP workflow solutions. Jetbuilt has unveiled Portal, a resource for real-time communication and information sharing between integrators and clients. Portal, which was unveiled at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2024, will further ignite industry-wide collaboration among every industry professional. 

Jetbuilt’s Portal enables integrators to share pertinent information, such as project status, drawings and designs, equipment manuals and other project details, within the Portal to provide an organized flow of communication. An integrator can update the project status as it moves from various phases, such as contract, engineering and installation, and eliminates client inquiries regarding the latest update on an ongoing project. The integrator and the client can communicate fluidly, asking questions and providing answers. For clients with multiple projects, the Client Portal provides a powerful resource to track the status of simultaneous projects and an individualized update for each project. During project installation, the client can track and validate tasks, while viewing images uploaded to Portal by the integrator.

Additionally, Portal provides an invaluable resource through project assets, allowing integrators to log serial numbers, IP addresses and other critical information that the client can access anytime. The detailed project information eliminates double entry for an integrator and provides the client with a 24/7 resource for important information. After a project has been completed, the client can initiate a service request, which automatically queues a service ticket, and updates, discussions, scheduling and resolution tracking can be handled within Portal.

The platform-based communication thread allows an integrator and their clients to communicate fluidly in a unified, central location, meanwhile eliminating multiple threads of communications, such as emails, phone calls and messaging, and confusion between various communication platforms.

NADiV Audio has launched its NADiV range of Dante-enabled audio interface and control devices for portable and installed AV and pro audio environments, including houses of worship, recording studios, and live event venues.

The NADiV family is anchored by two rack-mount interface products, Eight Squared and Sixteen Squared, that support multiple channels (8x8 and 16x16, respectively) of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion for Dante networks over a single category network cable. Both products include the number of standard XLR inputs and outputs that their product names suggest, converting standard mic and line audio sources to Dante network channels and vice versa. Customers can also request mic preamps to support for any number of XLR inputs on either product, while built-in front-panel LED monitoring allows technicians to confirm power, network status, sample rate and I/O signal presence.

The initial NADiV line also includes a 2x2 XLR flushmount wallplate solution (Two Squared Flush Mount) to provide I/O end points for local playout, and the 1RU Control Series 128, an audio routing and processing solution that supports up to 128 channels. The Control Series 128 is essentially a separate PoE-based network solution with summing router control that allows customers to remotely configure devices, manage audio routes, and control volume and other audio settings via a mobile device. Its audio processing capabilities also support independent channel strips, automix and high-quality DSP processing.

With search capabilities varying from frame-by-frame to 16 times real-time, the controller can be set to different speeds according to the needs of the operator.

The available Playback MARK Area function enables users to indicate the IN and OUT point of the camera playback for marking the start and end points of a particular play in a game to use during in-game replays, slow-motion reviews or post-game highlight reels. Additionally, a CAMERA Selection Area function for the replay input enables users to set a slow-motion playback either for live programming or to be previewed prior to live broadcast. 

Astera launched its new ‘White Remote’; a pocket-sized tool that allows for instant point-and-click control of the full Astera lighting ecosystem. The remote is designed to act as a counterpart to the existing IR ‘FX Remote’, which allows for color, strobing, and effect control at the click of a button. With both the FX and White Remote in-hand, a lighting engineer can execute precise lighting changes in seconds.

The White Remote can turn single or grouped sets of lights off and on instantly and from a distance and can also be used to quickly add lights to a control group (initially configured through the app), which then allows for lighting changes to be disseminated over the full group simultaneously. The remote has a number of preconfigured buttons for light temperature, running through 12 preset values from 2400 to 10,000 kelvin, allows for instant temperature transition, along with CCT +/- buttons to enable more precise, incremental control. Similarly, five preset dimming parameters are present, and provide quick brightness adjustments, along with +/- dimming buttons for fine-tuning.

Max Runtime can also be enabled or disabled directly from the White Remote. This feature allows users to set a maximum duration for their lights—either directly on the light or through the Astera App, which is then toggled on and off on the remote—in order to ensure that their lights won’t run out of battery but will still deliver the maximum possible intensity within the set timing parameters.

BlueMode—Astera’s workflow for pairing lights with the Astera App—is also made simpler with use of the White Remote and allows for a large number of lights to be paired in a matter of seconds. A two-press process is used to ensure that the mode is not activated by accident, and the mode can also be disabled (either on the light directly, or through the Astera App) to ensure that access to BlueMode is reserved only for those with the required permissions.

Snap One recently introduced Luma Insights, a new AI-based surveillance solution for Control4 customers. The Luma Bridge device comes bundled with a 3-year subscription to the Luma Insights service, which allows partners to integrate new AI and machine-learning features that exceed the capabilities of their IP cameras and NVRs alone. The Luma Insights service is fully configurable through OvrC, only requiring a simple and low-effort driver installation process through OvrC and no network setup on the Luma Bridge. The Luma Bridge automatically scans the network and Control4 system and displays a list of compatible cameras that are connected to both. As soon as the Bridge devices are connected and the Partner chooses up to four areas of interest within each camera’s frame for extra focus, the solution is immediately functional.

When a notification is sent, end users also have the ability to quickly share snapshots or videos or mark an event as a false positive. The service is smart enough to know whether users have already been alerted of an event, so event aggregation suppresses subsequent notifications, but not recordings.
