    New Orleans Saints' Champions Square: A Q&A with Jonathan Foucheaux by James Careless Champions Square is a new 60,000-square foot tailgating hotspot for the New Orleans Saints' football team, 2010 SuperBowl winners. Designed to hold about 8,000 fans in a rowdy, happy pre-game mood, this venue screams for speakers that can cut through high noise while retaining intelligibility for both voice and music. The $13.5 million project includes a standing room only area surrounded by patio-style tables, a 36-foot by 32-foot stage for live music, and a 18-by-32 foot LED screen

    Solomon Design Associates, the project's designer and integrator, chose direct weather loudspeakers from One Systems to do the job. Installed by Interstate Electronics, the One Systems' suite consists of twenty-four 212IMs, eighteen 112IMs and ten 212Sub-W subwoofers. AV Technology spoke to Solomon Design Group partner Jonathan Foucheaux about the Champions Square project.

    AV Technology: This is a big, potentially noisy space. Why did you choose One Systems loudspeakers? Foucheaux: One Systems speakers were originally specified by WJHW of Dallas in the original spec. We did research and got a demo of one of the boxes and were immediately impressed with the outdoor ruggedness and the sound. You don't typically find a good outdoor box with good sound like this. We already have some future projects we are looking at the One Systems line for.

    AV Technology: Are they tough enough? New Orleans has a hot, humid climate. Foucheaux: One of the key reasons we went with One Systems was their reliability in harsh outdoor environments. There were several days of rain during the installation and there've been countless storms since and we've had no issues with any of the One Systems gear. Everything has been solid.

    AV Technology: Will these speakers deliver a good ROI over time? Foucheaux: Because the speakers are so tough, we expect a very long life and therefore a good ROI over other brands. Also, because the speakers come 100% weatherized, we don't have to waste valuable field time adding "weather-iziation kits" like other brands require you to do.
